nicknames.
[ napnam ]  -  short for nappeun namja [ bad guy ] on the night that jiohn met yongguk, he was casually lurking outside the local pub which has gained quite a name for itself for hosting midnight brawls. seeing yongguk there led jiohn to the conclusion that he was a guy who likes to involve himself in these said brawls. the cigarette hangning limply on his lips didn't help either.

extra notes about appearance.
yongguk has been sporting a pair of earrings ever since he has been gradually gaining recognition from the local pub. the piercings weren't actually meant to be there; but apparently, the bartender thought it would be nice to try out his new piercing gun on the youngest recruit.
traits.
       (  +  ) ambitious. self-seeking. witty. creative. fillial.
(  -  ) apathetic. indifferent. unsociable. sarcastic. problematic.

personality.
min yongguk hasn't always been good with communicating with people, much less connecting with them through actual conversations. he's not the type to go around and chat one up - not even in school. he's had some acquaintances, sure, but most of them are people he pass by the hallways; the band geeks who he bumps in on occasionally, the lunchladies who serve him the cafeteria's inedble guacamole, or the old janitor who shares a cigarette break with him during school hours. the total words he has exchanged with them probably won't even reach a hundred; he can barely call them friends. once he does open his mouth, however, either a snarky remark or a sarcastic retort will come out, which is exactly the reason why he chooses to keep them shut.

but despite his glaring lack of communication skills, yongguk is quite good with his music and that's how he makes up for his inadequacies. his dream of being able to produce his own music and become a successful recording artist someday has kept him alive and has pushed him through the toils of his dreary eighteen-year-old life.

he's problematic, that's for sure. with his unwanted piercings, late night gigs at the pub, and uncontrollable smoking habits, yongguk isn't exactly the model child that his single mother was hoping for him to become. however, his family is his priority. his mother is the one who keeps him anchored in the stormy sea that is his life. yongguk might seem to be the kid who ruins the family photos but he's actually the one who carries the photos in his wallet.

relations.

( 1 ) oh jiohn. jiohn used to be just another face he sees in school; just another girl he occasionally sits beside to in class; just another student. he knew about the torment that she experienced on a daily basis because who wouldn't? a big part of the school's population bullied the poor girl. yongguk, however, was not part of that population. although he didn't bully her, he didn't save her from her bullies either. and that's what he regrets the most.

but after a fateful night, nothing is ever the same. jiohn isn't just another face he sees in school; she isn't just another girl he occasionally sits beside to in class; she isn't just another student. she isn't just oh jiohn.

with others. many months before her death.

[ 7.18 AM ] "i'm heading out now! bye, mom! i love you!"
yongguk likes to believe that his mom is the queen of his world and she always will be. he would kiss her before he heads out for school and would kiss her again when he comes in from there. he'd give her a kiss good night, too, even when he comes home late from the pub. he'd never hurt her. so he thinks his smoking habits would be best kept a secret.

[ 1.27 AM ] "and that's it for tonight, ladies and gentlemen! thanks for coming!"
the smell of booze and the sound of drunk, happy people is not new to the eighteen-year-old. for two years, yongguk has been playing his songs to old customers and new. he's too young for the job but nobody complains: they come to have a good time and yongguk does a good job at helping them with that. the pay is good and it helps a lot in their family's expenses. besides, making music is his passion. he loves what he does.

[ 21.50 PM ] "are you sure it's a good idea?"
sanghyun, one of the pub's bartenders, has forced yongguk into getting his ears pierced. he has bought a second-hand piercing gun but he has no one to try it onto. plus, he's too afraid to try it on his own. the sixteen-year-old yongguk seemed to be a good enough guinea pig. he bribed him extra burritos if he agreed. four minutes later, yongguk has two piercings and three burritos.

with jiohn. three nights before her death.

[ 00.38 am ] "no waaaaaay. you really work here?" "yes. now, what are you doing here this late at night?" "what are YOU doing here this late at night?" ". . . i just told you i work here." "oh, right."
it was just another one of his gig nights. yongguk was taking a cigarette break just outside the pub at half past midnight when a pale jiohn came around, clueless. jiohn claimed to be 'looking for fun' but yongguk knew this was not the right place for a seventeen-year-old high school girl to have fun. yongguk ended up finishing his set early (with jiohn listening to one last song) and insisted on bringing jiohn back home.

but 12AM jiohn is stubborn, unlike the 7AM jiohn. and thus ensued a night of third 7/11 ice cream cones, second songs, first nicotine inhales, first moonlit dances, first confessions and first kisses.

[ 2.03 am ] "you're cute when you smile, min yongguk. you should do it more often."
no one has ever seen min yongguk blush redder than a tomato. no one other than oh jiohn who has done it with a simple comment.

in the two hours that they've been together, they have done things ranging from pretty dumb to pretty crazy like eat three servings of ice cream from the convenient store downtown and choke on cigarette sticks. the former was mostly done by jiohn who has tried her first cigarette thanks to yongguk and has vowed to never do it again (also thanks to yongguk.) what they haven't done, however, is talk about her bullies and he was ITCHING to ask her about it. but he didn't. he couldn't.

[ 3.51 am ] "you know, you should at least - i don't know - stand up for yourself sometimes."
jiohn merely smiled at yongguk's suggestion. they were sitting on the curb of what should be a busy busan street. but it was almost 4 AM and there was no one around except for two lonely teenagers who have finished dancing to one of yongguk's self-composed songs under the moon.

jiohn hugged her knees close to her chest and looked up at the cloudless sky."if only it were that easy." she sighed and smiled and that was the loneliest smile yongguk has ever seen.

[ 4.42 am ] "i don't think we should." "i don't think we shouldn't."
it couldn't be helped. the early morning sun was starting to rise but it was still dark. the sky looked like a battlefield where the light and dark were fighting each other to see who shall prevail. the dark seemed to be winning at that time but yongguk could see jiohn's face perfectly. they were so close to each other, their noses barely touching. her eyes were closed, her cheeks flushed. jiohn's lips were parted ever so slightly, as if waiting for his to make contact. yongguk's hand makes its way to cup her face, his thumb brushing gently over her cheek. and just then, jiohn takes a step back.

"i don't think we should," she said.

"i don't think we shouldn't," he whispered back before closing the small gap between them.
[?] WHO IS OH JIOHN. yongguk's eyes remain trained on the candle wax stain on the end of his shoe, his face unreadable. he didn't open his mouth for a moment; he wasn't really good with words to begin with. after awhile of contemplation, he finally speaks up. "she's one of my classmates." he wanted to say more, give more justice to the smart, bubbly, beautiful girl that she really was, but he couldn't. he just couldn't.
[?] DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HER GETTING BULLIED BEFORE AND HAVE YOU WITNESSED HER GETTING BULLIED. "yeah," yongguk mumbles. he bites the insides of his cheeks as he remembers all the times that she has been bullied and all the times that he has looked away. and all he could wish now is for him to turn back time and do something - anything - about it.
[?] WHEN AND HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT HER DEATH. his left knee won't stop bobbing up and down. his hands become buried deeper into his jean pockets, balled into hard fists. "i heard some kid talking about it in the hallway," he says coldly. yongguk's face remains stoic and emotionless. "said some student killed herself. some girl, he said. i didnt think much of it until-," yongguk's voice cracks, causing him to stop. he briefly clears his throat before continuing. "-until i saw her getting lifted onto the stretcher and into the ambulance."
