“This is Kim Sunggyu, he’ll be one of your catcher’s alright?”

Sunggyu heard Coach Mithra say before he was turning around to see what the other man was talking about. Especially when it sounded as if Mithra was talking to someone new and a pitcher at that… A pitcher that Sunggyu most likely did not want to work with, even if he was a pitching prodigy. Because as good as whoever this new person could be, he’d obviously never be as good as Heechul, let alone Dongwoo, their relief pitcher. 

But not wanting to scare the other off, especially in front of one of their coaches, Sunggyu could only give a forced smile when he analyzed the player in front of him. Only to be a little disgruntled to see a string bean of a boy that looked like a strong gust of wind could blow him over rather than the young man with a pitcher’s body that he should have been. Because despite the other being a little bit taller than him, Sunggyu would not have been surprised if the other could have easily fit in with a group of idols with how skinny he was…

Like how could he put any power behind his pitches with how he looked?

So it was safe to say that Sunggyu was even more skeptical about the person in front of him. Especially when Tablo and Mithra had talked to the school about offering the other a scholarship as well, and with Sunggyu expecting someone a little bit more built, the guy in front of him looked nothing but. Even if he had the shoulders for the position he was going to play.

Subconsciously knowing not to underestimate the other’s build as something that would equate to him being a weak player since Lee Sungjong was another thin one that could easily hit home runs, despite him having the opposite build of most cleanup hitters in the league, Sunggyu couldn’t help but be skeptical anyway. Not only had Heechul arguably been the best pitcher for most of their college careers, but he had the body that showed it. And looking at this - at this squid, Sunggyu couldn’t help but hide a frown when Mithra went to introduce the two. 

“Kim Sunggyu, this is Kim Myungsoo, our newest ace. Kim Myungsoo, Kim Sunggyu.” 

Seeing the other out his hand, nervous smile on his face as he shakily and maybe a bit too loudly said, “Hi Sunggyu-ssi, it’s - it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

All Sunggyu could say was “Pleasure” before he was turning to Mithra with dark, serious eyes, “I want to see how he pitches first, alright?” 

While all Mithra could do was smile, eyes shining a little too brightly for Sunggyu’s liking, as he replied, “Of course, wouldn’t have it any other way.”
