Lonely

Crush or Crushed?

Your eyes widened. There he sat, torso slightly leaning forward, staring back with eyes equally huge as yours. No matter how different new hairstyles made people look, eyes would never change. He seemed to be communicating through the eye-contact the both of you held, telling you he was Luhan. Well, you were in public, standing a little too far for him to just call your name out, and the fact that it was still 7:00AM in the morning probably held his voice back. After what seemed like eternity, you snapped back into reality upon realizing you've- yet again- got lost in his beautiful, brown, alluring dark orbs.

"Luhan?" You whispered after moving closer to his seat. He was smiling at you and you felt like you were watching the sunrise; although the air surrounding you was cold, your chest had a warm, fuzzy feeling. It was another new feeling you've never experienced until you met Luhan. You liked this one the best so far.

"Mhm. Couldn't you recognize me?" he chuckled slightly. Uh, no, I guess not. Eyeing the empty seat beside him, your legs decided to walk towards it and settle down instead of continuing the conversation with the awkwardly long distance between the both of you.

"Your hairstyle..." You couldn't help but let out a little laughter. Just a small, barely audible laugh. His expression fell. He frowned, lips slightly pouting.

"What happened to your hair?" You decided to a little. Who knew you would have this side of you?

He grunted. "Blame the barber," He replied shortly. You had roughly guessed before that he had never expected his hair to be ruined, judging from his face. "I told him to cut my bangs short but he ended up t it into this... I don't even know how I should address this hairstyle." His bangs, from being horizontally straight, turned into a funny looking mohawk without the sides of his hair being shaved. The mid portion of his hair was pointy, the sides of his hair were shorter than usual but still decent looking. However when combined...

"I hate my hair," You couldn't help but chuckle at this sight of Luhan fussing over his appearance.

Then you realized.

After so long you finally realized you actually were in the same train and cabin with luhan. 20 minutes ago you were cursing the bus that arrived so late you almost cried but now, you had mixed feelings. As much as you hated the fact that the bus came late anyway, you realized you weren't anywhere near being late for school. Later than usual, of course, but you weren't late. And it was because of that late bus you entered the same train a certain someone was on board. Well the part about being in the same cabin was thanks to yourself though.

You observed luhan as he played with the games on his mobile phone, silence falling upon the both of you. You didn't have much topics to share, and you didn't think you should try snice he looked totally engrossed in his games. Sighing, you wore your earphones and let the music distract you from his presence.

If the bus comes late again... try me

--

Your phone buzzed. Groaning, you fished for the buried gadget in the deep hell of books stacked up in your bag.

Dearest band members, there will be a sound check in the town's conference hall for us to change our seating arrangments as well as to make sure we will be in tune during our performance for the nation-wide symphonic band Youth Arts Presentation. Please report to the band room at 3:30PM sharp so that we can leave the school compound by 4:00PM. Thank you.

Oh, how nice of them to only tell you on the same exact day at half past noon? There was a mental response in your head: No, I can't go. Moreover, it wasn't even a Wednesday or a Friday, it was a Monday. You didn't have your music scores with you, school ended at 4:10PM and you've never fancied the idea of leaving classes early. You didn't have any plans on going out, but it was a normal routine for you to go home straight the moment school ended because of personal matters back home.

So you skipped.

Not just band, but the chance to see Luhan up close and laugh beside him. The chance to sit beside him in the school catered bus. The chance to admire him while he sleeps. You skipped it all because you had to. You felt awful.

Tearing your gaze away from the band room, you dragged your feet away from the school.

--

It was Wednesday.

Upon missing the chance of seeing Luhan on monday, you were excited- ableit too excited- about the thought of being able to sit next to him again. After so long. You breathed out in attempt to calm down, but your heart wouldn't stop pumping at a fast rate. It's weird how feelings can make your mind and body react so unsually.

You happily hopped towards the room you visited twice a week, however when you saw the door your halted. Am I nuts? I, Zi Xiao, never hopped around with a huge smile on my face. Feelings can really drive you nuts sometimes. Getting yourself together, you walked into the band room with your head hung low, avoiding any form of eye-contact with the sea of strangers.

Upon reaching your usual seat, you realized the absence of a red and black colored bag. You looked at down. No signs of green shoes. You looked up and-

"Oh," You subconciously mumbled when He Fang's face appeared right in front of you. She had- what you assumed to be- an apologetic look on her face. Why though, is the real question.

"He's skipping today," she started. What?

"But why?" You couldn't stop yourself from blurting that question out. In the morning when you saw him, he looked perfectly fine. Unless he had plans or something else.

"Revenge." She vaguely stated. On who?

Then it hit you. Revenge. On you. You skipped Monday. He skipped the next practice. The same question popped up. But why? It wasn't as if you seemed to matter to him. You were probably just someone in his life. I guess? He seemed to treat you the same as he treated everyone else. Only you felt a special attachment because you've never interacted so much with a guy. But what, revenge? On you? It didn't make sense at all.

"Lonely girl," He fang caught up with your fast pace as you headed to the band store to get your Clarinet case. You looked at the shorter girl with a puzzled face. Was it obvious? The only person you smile to wasn't here today, but the last time you checked your behaviour remained unchanged. You didn't sob over his absence- who would?- nor did you allow any sort of affected look flash on your face. You were still the emotionless you. But He fang-

"I called him lonely boy all the time on Monday," She laughed a bit before continuing. "He looked really lonely, you know?" The shorter girl ruffled your hair and went on to talk to her friends.

You stopped in your tracks, standing rooted to the ground.

What in the world?
