“Grandpa, you are so cheesy.”Jake cringed.
“It’s called being romantic, Jake. Try it and maybe you won’t end up dying alone.”Rebecca rolled her eyes.
“Kids, don’t fight.”Suzy clucked in disapproval. “Anyways, do you have any questions?”
Ari raised her hand politely. Suzy smiled affectionately at her granddaughter.
“Yes, Ari-ah?”
“Grandma, this question is for you. We know you got the title of the Nation’s First Love through Architecture 101. And the World’s Sweetheart through that movie dad doesn’t let me watch since its PG-15 but how did you get it? What happened on the sets?”
Suzy covered as she laughed. “My, you would make a fantastic journalist when you grow up.”
“Grandma…you know I want to be a doctor.”Ari raised an eyebrow.
“I know, I know. I am just saying.”Suzy raised her hands up in defeat. “Anyways, my first debut movie in Hollywood made me realize three things: 1) I could grow as an actress (2) If I don’t tell guys who don’t really follow the Hallyu wave I was getting married before hand, they tend to ask me out and (3) Your grandpa was and still is the most romantic man in the world and he’s adorable when he’s jealous.
“Is it getting hot in here? I think I’ll go check on the thermostat.”Kris whose face was beetroot red excused himself and went to ‘go check on the thermostat’, making his wife and grandchildren laugh.
“Oh, granny, so intriguing. Tell us more.”Rebecca coaxed.
“Okay. Let me think. Ah yes, so I got the offer a few months after my engagement…”

“Seriously? They’re asking ME out of all the better actresses?”Suzy asked incredulously.
“Yeah, the author insisted it be you. But if you want, should I tell them you need some time to think?”Her manager asked.
“Yup. Call me later with the details, oppa. Bye.”She hung up and started to think.
Suzy had gotten an offer from HOLLYWOOD to play the lead in the directorial debut of Meredith G. O’Brien, the writer of the international bestseller, ‘My Grandmother’s Diary’. It was about a Korean-American girl who stumbles upon her grandmother’s diary where it showed that the grandmother was a North Korean girl who was abducted by the South Korean military to be forced into being a e for the US Military. A young American soldier falls in love with her and eventually, she reciprocates. However, it turns out he was engaged to be married with some high society chick. Then he breaks it off to be with the heroine but the Vietnam War calls and he is drafted. They never see each other again. In the present, the young girl tries to find the dude and she does, reuniting them.
Suzy absolutely adored the book. It made her laugh, cry and sigh. And the fact that the author herself insisted the lead should be her made her feel happy. It would also be a good experience for her to grow as an actress. But then she thought of the netizens who would taunt and insult her unendingly, saying that she was a horrible actress and that their biases should’ve been the lead and not her or that she was a selfish b**** who cared only about herself and not her members. She was at a crossroads.
“Who should I ask for advice? Ah, I know.”She smiled as she dialed his number on her phone.

“I think you should take the offer, Su. It’s a one in a lifetime opportunity. You would be stupid to pass it up.”Kris said on the phone. He was currently in Prague shooting his debut movie and taking his well deserved break.
“But…”
“No buts. You are the BAE Suzy. Korea’s first love. You grew and became one of the leaders of the Hallyu Wave despite the netizens’ predictions that you wouldn’t last in the industry. Who cares what they think? It’s your life and your decision. Don’t let them dominate you.”
Kris’s pep talk cheered Suzy up. It motivated her immensely. “Thanks, I’ll say yes to them.”
“Congrats on debuting in Hollywood, love.”
“Thanks. Love you.”
“I love you too.”
*November 2014*
“Hello, Miss Bae. I am Meredith, writer and director of ‘My Grandmother’s Diary’. I am such a huge fan. While writing this novel, I thought of you as the female lead and it is such a great honor that you’re doing this movie.”A tall beautiful woman who looked to be about 24 or 25 said.
Suzy smiled. “Thank you, Ms. O’Brien. First off, you can call me Suzy. Secondly, I am the one who’s honored. I absolutely love your book, especially that scene where Ryan told Seonyo that he loved her right next to Haemundae Beach in front of the sunset. I was giggling and crying happily at the same time. Kris oppa looked like a deer caught in headlights. Scared and not knowing what to do.”
Meredith laughed. “That was what I was going for. And you can call me Meredith eonnie. I am older than you, aren’t I?”
“Okay…Meredith eonnie.”
*Present*
“Wait. Grandma Mere was the director of your first movie?”Rebecca asked, her eyes wide open.
“Yup. Your maternal grandmother was my debut movie’s director, writer, eventually best friend and future relative.”Suzy smiled, thinking of how her
