Chapter 3
Hyung’s Promise“My life was so resentful .”
Jin thought as he reminisced the past while helping Jungkook change his pants.
(Flashback)
Jin and Jungkook had been working in the farm for a long time. They went there whenever they’re free from school. Their parents were never with them since they were left abandoned when they were still young. Their mother left, promising to find a job and support them.
Jin waited for her until it took him almost two months to realize that she’d never come back.
Their father who looked after them while their mom went somewhere, eventually, also left them in the care of nun in an orphanage.
At a young age, Jin already had an understanding about the misfortunes that occurred in their lives. The orphanage was more of a cage. A prison. Children were forced to labor. Some were not given even leftovers to eat and the underdogs were maltreated.
For two days that Jin and Jungkook lived in there, it was hell.
There was once Jin caught a nun who tried to take away Jungkook. He might never see Jungkook again so he ran and pushed the nun away, causing her to fall on the ground. He carried Jungkook safely in his arms and ran away from the place.
They hid in a dump nook, afraid that the bodyguards were still after them.
Tiny drops of rain hit Jin’s body. It was cold on his skin. While he was partly drenched, he ensured that Jungkook was warm and completely covered and snuggled in few layers of newspapers and scratch he prepared earlier.
At that time, Jin cried a lot. It was hard for him since he knew in the first place, that none of the things should happen. It was hard for him since he had no idea what to do about the situation. He was afraid of what might happen next or what would await them ahead.
He was so tired, mad and confused. He could blame no one. He let the rain wash his face along the tears he spilled. He thought of it. He was giving up but he remembered Jungkook. He was only two. He was oblivious of things. Jin comforted his younger brother back to sleep.
He watched his face.
It was peaceful.
