TWO
Sleep Away
After Taeyeon pulled herself out of the trance that Krystal left her in,
the blonde looked up to see that class was almost over. At that point,
Taeyeon would have screamed for joy, but she then caught sight of the
blackboard. There were around twelve different pairings for a history
project, and wouldn’t you know it, at the bottom of the list, in big
bold letters, stated the final pairing. And Taeyeon didn’t know whether
to laugh in triumph, or scream in frustration...
Krystal Jung & Kim Taeyeon
At that point, suddenly people started to get into their respective
partnerships and walk out the door. Taeyeon would have done so too, but
a certain captivating-eyed girl walked over and spoke to a particularly
nervous and edgy brown eyed one.
“So Taeyeon, shall we get started?”
**********
About 10.35, an hour and a half after Taeyeon’s history class, Krystal
and Taeyeon went to the library to research the topic that they were
working on. Krystal seemed quite keen to get the project started, and
Taeyeon was too, but the blonde was just couldn’t keep her
eyes off of the brunette haired girl. With her nose behind a particularly
large history book, Taeyeon would every so often peer over it and stare
at Krystal, thinking sweet thoughts about her, her face reddening more
and more at the sight of Krystal’s beauty. Normally Taeyeon would have
done a much better job at concealing her feelings, but Krystal had been
away for a while, out sick with the flu, so this was the first time
she had seen the captivating eyed girl in a couple of weeks. And it
looked like longing grew with separation, because the desire burning
in the young woman’s heart was becoming an inferno...Just as Taeyeon
started to stare at Krystal again, something in her head clicked, as she
realized that Krystal was looking directly back at her. Krystal raised an
eyebrow at Taeyeon, and gently placed delicate fingers on her pale
face, all the while not taking her eyes off of the musician.
“Something on my face?”
Taeyeon’s eyes widened considerably, and she laughed out-loud (and
nervously) as Krystal stared at her questioningly.
“U-uh...uh...no, just um, I was wondering if, you had found out
anything more about the project in the book?”
Taeyeon applauded herself in her mind at such a brilliant recovery,
whereas Krystal just kept on looking at the blonde.
“Why are you so jumpy?”
Taeyeon kept on laughing, and could feel her cheeks burn with Krystal’s
fixed glare.
“I-I’m not...jumpy, I’m just a little...tired at the moment.”
Krystal’s glare then softened, and the brunette haired girl eased back into
the chair she was on. She had only known Taeyeon for a couple of years
but through those years, anytime she was around Taeyeon the girl seemed
so nervous and agitated. People always acted like that around Krystal,
and it made her angry. She wasn’t nearly as vain or as fickle as
people thought she was, she just had friends who were much more
interested in popularity and looks rather than anything else. She was
part of the ‘in’ crowd, and their superior attitude intimidated a lot
of the other people in their school. But although her friends didn’t,
Krystal really liked Taeyeon...she was so mature for her age, not like
the rest of the kids at her school. Taeyeon was intelligent and
innocent, charming and cute...yes she was nursing a crush on the young
girl, and it wasn’t going anywhere. That was the main reason why she
didn’t want Taeyeon to feel uncomfortable around her. Krystal wanted the
girl she cared about the most to be happy with her.
Taeyeon also seemed to calm down a little, and settled down in her
chair. The blonde and returned to reading, and she at least
looked like she was better suited to Krystal. The captivating-eyed girl
looked up at the girl and exhaled.
{I do want to get to know Taeyeon better, but she always acts like she
is afraid of me... especially now...it’s like she’s going out of her
way to avoid me. I like you Taeyeon, why can’t I just say it?}
Krystal sighed at that thought. That was the thing that hurt the most.
Knowing someone you care about cannot return that same affection, no
matter what the circumstances were. Suddenly a strangely appealing
idea stomped its way though Krystal’s brain, and the brunette haired girl
smiled gently at the idea…
“Hey, Taeyeon?”
Taeyeon didn’t look back up; she just kept looking at the book she was
supposed to be reading.
“...Yeah?”
Krystal swallowed. “After school, can we go to your place to go over
this?”
Taeyeon placed her book on the table and looked at Krystal with such
confusion, she forgot about her erratic blushing. Krystal had never,
*ever* asked to go to Taeyeon’s house before.
“Huh...B-but why?”
Krystal kind of shuffled on the chair she was on, and tried not to look
at Taeyeon. When the idea was in her head it seemed to make sense, but
as soon as she put it out there, it hung in the air like a very bad
stench.
“Well, you said you feel tired, you might be a little more relaxed if
you were at home, and it is really stuffy in this library and I’ve
never seen your house, so why not?”
Krystal gave Taeyeon fairly valid reasons, but it still did not make her
feel anymore comfortable about it. It was hard enough to be around her
at school but at her house?
{Maybe I should say no… but that would be mean, wouldn’t it? It’s not
her fault I feel this way about her. But I seriously don’t feel like
entertaining Krystal all night. I have to say no.}
“Alright.”
{Good god I’m an idiot.}
**********
After school, about 4.26, Krystal and Taeyeon left their last class; and
began to walk to the front gates. At first glance the two seemed to be
perfectly normal, but both of them were secretly quite nervous. Taeyeon
was worried that if she spent too much time with Krystal, the other girl
might catch on to her feelings for her, and then Krystal wouldn’t want
to be near her at all...But Krystal herself was looking forward to
having some time to herself with Taeyeon. She knew that if she could
just get Taeyeon to see how she was outside of school, then she might
have had a chance at making Taeyeon like her. They weren’t exactly
friends as it is, and she knew that a great deal of guys were willing
to ask her out, but were just a little bit browbeaten by her very
committed work ethic.
At the gates, Taeyeon smiled as she saw Siwon, and ran over to him.
Krystal was a little thrown by her eagerness to meet the dark haired
boy, and just looked at the two of them. Siwon was equally thrown by
the fact that he saw Taeyeon and Krystal together. He knew about Taeyeon’s
feelings for her, but he only saw Krystal as everyone else saw her,
vain, conceited and immature. Siwon wanted the best for Taeyeon, and
Krystal wasn’t it. Taeyeon walked up to her best friend and smiled.
“Hi Siwon!”
“Hiya.” He quickly responded, keeping a fixed stare on the girl just
behind Taeyeon, who was giving him an eq
