It is the year 2031. Eighteen years ago, an experiment intended to stop global-warming failed and plunged the earth into a new ice age instead, killing all life on the planet. That is, except for the lucky passengers of the train Snowpiercer. On board, social status was defined by what part of the train you lived in. Front section passengers got to live a life of luxury at the expense of the tail section passengers, who lived in squalor. All that changed with the revolution. The tail section had had enough, its passengers fighting their way up the train to reach the engine. Now, the train is no more, its few survivors left to fend for themselves in the snow and ice.
