Foreword
At the age of 10 I saw my dad beat my mother.
At the age of 12 my dad started beating me.
At the age of 13 I ran away from home. From that time onwards I lived on the streets, in abandoned cars and buildings, until I came upon an old unused factory. This is now my home, the only home I'll ever know.
I don't need my loving mother. I don't need an abusive father. I don't need anyone. Just me...
"You're freezing!"
"Leave me alone."
"Why should I leave you alone when you're freezing half to death?!"
"Just leave me alone Jiwon! You don't know anything!"
"Then why don't you tell me?!" I bit my lip. "That's why I've been bothering you; because I want to know everything. I want to know everything about you Eunae-ah. Why can't you just let me..."
I waited for Jiwon to continue. "What do you want from me..."
"Why can't you just let me love you?"
I stopped walking and fighting him off as I replayed that line in my head over and over again for several minutes. For the last 6 years of my life I was depleted of such words of adoration, and endearment. Today I heard the words 'love you' again, and the feeling it gave me was not something that I could put into words.
My heart throbbed.
A salty substance escaped the corners of my eyes.
I felt strong arms wrapped around my body, and it felt oddly... comfortable.
'Is this what it feels like to be warm?'
