xxv. Lunchbreak Intermezzo

“Hey, Hyunjoo-ah,” Placing her tray carelessly, Kim Chaewon calls the younger’s name in excited tone. Lee Hyunjoo looks up and with her usual uninterested stare, eyeing her unnie lazily. She nods curtly to the tall guy who comes with Chaewon—Kim Yugyeom, and it’s like a habit now. Since she moved to Jaeguk High a week ago, Lee Hyunjoo always has a lunch time with those two (she should be grateful, really, at least there’s Chaewon here in new, strange environment and she doesn’t really like the idea of socializing).

“I have a friend to introduce.” Still being excited, Chaewon continues on. “I think he likes you!”

Hyunjoo scowls. Of course. With her being so perfect in any ways, it’s common many guys like her and girls hate her. Or she rather chooses ‘like what her face looks like, not like her wholebeing’.

“Please, unnie,”

“There he is, yah, Mingyu! Right here!”

Hearing the familiar name, Hyunjoo scowls more as staring at her unnie in disapproval, but the latter is too busy waving to someone behind her. She shifts her eyes to glance at Yugyeom and he can only grin awkwardly as response.

Kim Mingyu. The very common character school must have; he’s tall, handsome, rich, popular, flirtatious and—Hyunjoo is sure—kind of bastard.

“This is my junior in Woollim Junior High before, Lee Hyunjoo.” Chaewon introduces right after a strong musk of body cologne fills Hyunjoo’s nose once Kim Mingyu sits beside her. “And Hyunjoo, this is Kim Mingy
