Kyungsoo scoffed at the story book and slammed it down onto the glass table. Isn't it so amusing that his own story is parodying Cinderella? Except that Baekhyun is still in the house, he thought. "Do you want another book, Sir?" the maid asked. He shook his head and smiled, "No thank you."

Then he looked around the library. It was about three storeys high, had a wonderful mural on the ceiling and it had everything. Kyungsoo had everything. 

The cruelest part was that he had everything except Jongin's heart. Kyungsoo knew that no amount of wealth could win over love. Everytime Jongin kissed him, Kyungsoo could feel the doubt exuding from him. He could never be Baekhyun. 

He wished that Baekhyun never sneaked to that party. And then left his ring there. Fortunately, Kyungsoo's finger could fit. He had been so elated at that time, now, he thought that his own greediness and one-sided love was beginning to backlash although Jongin knew of nothing.

Kyungsoo leaned back into the couch and sighed. He thought back to the days when he spent his childhood with Sehun, his brother and only companion. When their father passed away, Kyungsoo knew they had lost their her. She turned bitter and began ranting about them being poor. She was angry at their dad for leaving them alone. She was angry at everything.

She kept telling the two of them to always marry wealthy people and nagged for hours till at one point, Kyungsoo got mad at her. But it didn't last for long.

Their mother hit the jackpot. She soon met Baekhyun's father who was a respectable business man in the fashion industry. His brand was hitting off well locally and internationally. Kyungsoo was pleased that she had finally stopped complaining, so was Sehun.

Baekhyun also happened to lose his mother to cancer and lived with his father. The first time Kyungsoo met Baekhyun, he thought he was a rather quiet and petite person. He hid behind his father most of the time.

Their first meeting had gone pleasantly for a while then Kyungsoo began to dislike Baekhyun. He turned sour at the way Baekhyun smiled sweetly at his father and asked for drinks. He hated the way how Baekhyun could be so... Perfect. 

After their parents married, Kyungsoo together with Sehun and their mother moved in together with Baekhyun and his dad. The first few months, Kyungsoo and Sehun ignored Baekhyun when he asked them if he could play with them. Then Sehun ignited the bullying and Kyungsoo happily followed. They always hid his books, locked him in the attic and sometimes made growling noises outside his door at night to make him scared.

When Kyungsoo was sixteen, Baekhyun's dad passed away. He had never seen Baekhyun so miserable in all his life. At that time, Kyungsoo felt a little sorry for Baekhyun. But soon, their mother started mistreating Baekhyun, as if all those sweet words spoken to him before had been nothing.

She made him do all the housework, even though there were maids. She told him off when he made the slightest mistake. She called him a disgrace to his father's name. Kyungsoo noticed, all those times, Baekhyun never cried. He would nod silently and move off. His dislike for Baekhyun grew stronger.

Which person would not shed a tear after going through all those? Sehun and him followed in their mother's footsteps, asking him to do extra things, making sure his did not rest until late at night. Kyungsoo wanted to test Baekhyun's limits. He wanted to see how far he could go until he broke down. But Baekhyun didn't.

It had been a year since Kyungsoo had married Jongin. He also hadn't been visiting home frequently, since Jongin's mansion was quite far away. He had been reflecting whether it had been a right choice to sabotage Baekhyun. For once, he felt bad.

He thought that Baekhyun deserved someone after all that he had been through. Heck, Kyungsoo didn't think he still hated Baekhyun. But for some part, Kyungsoo still irked at Baekhyun's resilience. He was so accepting and gracious, and silent, Kyungsoo thought he was mute. Maybe he had turned voluntarily mute. And he also loved Jongin too much to let go, or let Baekhyun have him.

"Sir, Master is back," the voice of the maid shook Kyungsoo back into reality. He nodded and got up from the couch and made his way out of the library. After walking down a few flights of staircases, he saw Jongin sitting in his computer room, busy tapping away on his keyboard.

As Kyungsoo stared at Jongin's flawless features, he wondered how long until he could no longer see them everyday, and his heart hurt. He knew he couldn't keep it a secret forever, or keep Baekhyun down forever. But until then, he would try to win Jongin's heart. And make this twisted fairytale right.
