First Day of Work

The Office Life of BTS

The rain hit the pavement as a sleek black, luxury, custom-designed car pulled up to the slightly dingy office building like a black panther coming to a stop next to its prey. It was really unimpressive. The place was considerably smaller than the other buildings around it, and it looked old, as if it hadn't been renovated in a long time. For a moment he though that he had driven to the wrong place, but the letters on the ancient sign read 'BTS Translating Company'. After convincing himself that it really wasn't so bad, Seokjin fixed his brown strands, took in a deep breath and started toward the doors.

There's nothing to worry about. Just a bunch of middle-class people. It's not like you haven't been in the city before, princess. He thought, trying to coax his racing pulse as he stepped towards the undersized doors. Seokjin caught himself. He was in an unforgiving society, about to enter an office where he will be working with commoners, who will judge and confront him about his love for pink things and Mario. No more calling himself princess. He had to be professional.

As he tugged open the non-automatic doors, he wondered briefly if he would be able to make friends with his fellow future coworkers, since that was something he had been wondering about since last night, but the thought was pushed to the back of his mind as the front desk came into view.

"Hello, this is the BTS translating company, may I help you?" the guy behind the desk (who looked like a horse) said cheerfully before Seokjin even made his way there.

There was a silence as he walked over and gingerly placed his hands on the counter.

"I'm a new employee here-"

"Oh! That's right! We were expecting you! Come with me!" he interrupted while tugging him down the hall.

Seokjin grimaced at the fact that he was grabbing his arm and therefore wrinkling his suit, but put on an awkward smile for the sake of getting along.

"Oh, and by the way, my name is Jung Hoseok! Sorry that I didn't introduce myself earlier, heh."

He nodded. "I'm Kim Seokji-"

Hoseok cut him off. "I already know all about you! I read through your files and resume and whatnot. You're the heir to a filthy rich family and was sent here to work because of your phenominal Chinese skills, right?"

Seokjin furrowed his eyebrows in suspicion but nodded again.

After going up two floors in an elevator, they eventually came to a door and Hoseok knocked it in a special pattern. A few seconds later, a bad imitation of a rooster was heard from inside. Seokjin shifted uncomfortably.

A lot of muffled thumping and banging was audible from the room and after what seemed to be a lot of struggle, the door swung open and a lavender-haired boy flew out and tackled him to the floor (wrinkling his suit further).

"SCOOOOOOOOOOORE!!" he shouted wildly before rolling off him and running down the hall.

Seokjin laid on the floor, quite disgruntled and not exactly sure of what just happened to him, as he heard Hoseok yelling at the boy to come back and 'say your sorries'. Someone was standing over him, well, it was two people now and a deep, tired sounding voice was telling everyone to calm down.

A finger poked his nose. "Is he alive?"

Seokjin squeezed his eyes shut and groaned, convincing himself that it was all a bad dream. When he didn't wake up, he sighed and tried to get up. As he stood and opened his eyes again, he saw two people in front of him. One who was rather short, had sharp eyes, was rather muscled, and was wearing a dress shirt without a suit jacket, and the other was slightly taller but looked younger, with big shiny eyes, fluffy black hair, and was wearing a rain-speckled hoodie over a collared shirt. He kind of reminded him of a little puppy.

Hoseok came back and he was grabbing the lavender-haired boy by the ear as he shrieked, pulling him back to the meeting room like an angry, (slightly abusive) mother would with their toddler.

There was an awkward silence before Hoseok optimistically declared, "Let's go introduce ourselves!" and sauntered off into the room.

Seokjin wondered in the back of his mind how one could be so smiley but he abandoned the thought as he sat in an empty chair.

Everyone was messing around and not paying attention to the tanned guy with white and light green hair who was trying to get everyone to 'sit down and shut up'. Mr. Horse was head bobbing in unison with the hyper boy and Sharp-Eyed guy was messing up the young-looking guy's hair while affectionately nuzzling him. Someone sitting on the other side of the table (who was pale as a sheet of paper) was sleeping in a giant furry jacket that seemed to swallow him whole.

He awkwardly twiddled his thumbs as he waited for everyone to calm down.

After what seemed like an eternity of screaming, off-key singing, and random shouts, Seokjin was 200% sure that this was more of a kindergarten instead of an office building. He slumped and sighed, picking at his creased sleeve in grief. What happened to his calm life in the mansion? When he was told to get a job, Seokjin expected that an office would be quiet and peaceful but he was wrong...

The tanned, wild-haired man slammed his hands down on the table.

"For the fiftieth time, shut up and introduce yourselves already!" he yelled, and for once, everyone quieted down.

Hoseok grinned that overly happy grin of his. "You already know that I'm Hopie~"

Seokjin raised an eyebrow. "Hopie...?"

"Or Hobie. You can call me whatever you like~" he said with a lot of aegyo.

The sharp-eyed one cringed. "I like to call him retarded."

Hoseok reached across the table and smacked him. (while still smiling...)

After some more commotion, Hoseok gripped the sharp-eyed one by the back of his collar and shook him a bit.

"This is my dearest Park Jimin. He and I get along very well, am I right?"

Jimin nodded while making a disgusted face.

The wild-haired guy nodded. "I'm Kim Namjoon, and I'm also the CEO of this company, and..." he looked over to the pale guy. "Yah, Min Swaga, stop sleeping and introduce yourself!"

The lavender-haired boy smiled squarely. "He's Mr. Sleeping Beauty!"

The 'Sleeping Beauty' opened his eyes halfway and mumbled. "'Sup, welcome to somethin' translating company, I'm Min Yoongi, and I think I'm the vice CEO or somethin'...."

He dozed off again.

Namjoon sighed. "Okay then... thanks for helping us make a good impression on the new guy... uh, Jungkook, introduce yourself."

The boy in the wet hoodie inched forward in his seat.

"Hello, I'm Jeon Jungkook, and I'm the maknae in this company."

Jimin hugged him. "Poor fetus just turned seventeen a week ago~ And you're speaking so formally too..."

Jungkook pushed him off with a disinterested expression.

Jimin continued talking to him as if he was a baby while Namjoon ignored them and looked around the room.

"Is there anyone who hasn't gone yet?"

There was no reaction and everyone kept doing what they were doing but then one by one, all their eyes turned to the lavender-haired boy, who looked as if he was about to explode. Everyone stayed quiet and cautious as the tension in the room started to thicken. The boy's expression was absolutely ridiculous, and Seokjin would have laughed if they atmosphere wasn't so deadly serious. It seemed as if the boy was a ticking time bomb that would blow up any second now...

"MY NAME IS KIM TAEHYUNG KIM AND I'M AN ALIEN FROM THE ANDROMEDA GALAXY! I LIKE ANIME AND MANGA AND BIGBANG SUNBAENIMS AND I LOVE CANDY AND DOGS AND CATS AND EVERYTHING! I LOVE THE SKY! I LOVE THE EARTH! I LOVE MY MOM! I LOVE YOU TOO!"

He threw himself to the ground and burst out in a heart-breaking ballad.

"BABY DON'T CRYYYYY~ TONIGHT~~"

Seokjin took his eyes off the clearly hyper boy and looked at everyone else. Namjoon was facepalming, Yoongi had buried himself in his coat, Jimin and Jungkook were looking at him blankly, and Hoseok was still smiling.

After listening to Taehyung sing EXO's 'Baby Don't Cry' for about three minutes, Namjoon stood up.

"It's been nice getting together like this and introducing ourselves an' all, but we should really get back to work."

He nodded to Jungkook and tossed to him a pair of keys. "Since you guys are gonna be working in the same area, I guess that you should show Seokjin to the cubicle room, and then to his office."

The maknae nodded. Although it wasn't visible, he didn't really appreciate Namjoon telling him to do that and was slightly nervous because he didn't really know this new hyung. Not to mention, he was from a classy family, so he might be snobby or something and Kookie didn't really know how to deal with that, since he was only used to being surrounded by complete morons most of the time.

He led Seokjin through the hall, down a floor in the elevator, (while looking at him from the corner of his eye) and opened the door to the cubicles.

"Uh, here's the cubicles. You can work here if you're just doing a small job or nothing really big. It's... not really useful if you're going to do a big assignment, though."

Seokjin nodded, surveying the room with a slightly interested expression. There was nobody inside, which seemed a little strange to him.

"Wait," he asked. "...is the company just the six of you?"

Jungkook nodded. "Yeah, we're a branch off a bigger company called BigHit. It's just us, but a small translating service doesn't really need that much people, so..."

He trailed off awkwardly and rubbed the back of his head. Seokjin didn't seem to notice and glanced through the cubicles again.

By now Hoseok and Taehyung were roaming the halls across from them, chattering quietly to fill the much quieter space.

"So, uh," Jungkook managed. "Do you want to see your office?"

Seokjin nodded. "Sure, why not?"

They passed Namjoon on the way muttering to himself about 'controlling his employees better' and got into the elevator.

Jungkook pressed the '5' button and the elevator started going up.

There was nothing but the grinding noise of the elevator motor as it struggled up the floors. They didn't speak yet the silence was overbearingly loud. They didn't meet eyes yet it was as if they were burning holes through each other with their stares. Jungkook didn't know if Seokjin was as uncomfortable as he was, but he knew that he wanted to leap out of the elevator window, or run away as soon as the doors opened.

After what felt like three years, the automated voice said, "We have arrived at the fifth floor." and the elevator dinged as the doors opened.

Jungkook forced himself to walk slowly, matching Seokjin's pace as he reached his office.

"And here it is," he said, stiffly passing him his keys.

Seokjin smiled- which was a first for him. "Thanks."

He went inside and closed the door.

Jungkook opened his mouth to remind him that he was supposed to check his daily to-do list ('lovingly' given out by Mr. CEO Namjoon) but then he decided not to, since he had already had enough of talking to strange strangers for one day.

Besides, he had managed to waste an entire block of work and it was already his breaktime, so he might as well rest.
