Prologue: Just Talk to Him

I Have a Dog?

AN: Also, just as a warning, there is some use of language, but mostly just as an attempt to imitate the speech of teenagers, basically up to a PG-13 rating or so.

The setting would be an American style school system, but only because I don't know how the Korean system works, so they are in Korea, speaking Korean unless otherwise stated. I decided to forgo the use of too much Korean language within the story, as I find it distracting (things like hyung and oppa and such), but Yugyeom is a freshman(9) aslong with Bambam, Youngjae is a sophomore(10), and the rest are juniors(11).

Jinyoung had had a crush on Mark ever since he could remember (actually it was more of a couple months, max). Since that one fateful day- okay, maybe it wasn't that significant, he just got to sit next to him in class when the teacher asked them to pair up to discuss the reading- but since then, Junior couldn't help but admire the quiet boy. He never talked (even when they were supposed to be discussing Othello, or Venice or something similar-it's irrelevant anyways) and usually just listened to music or kept his head down, maybe even slept a little bit. Even so, Jr. couldn't help but like him. Sometimes, when Jr. got to school early enough, he could find a seat behind Mark, but there were usually too many of Mark's friends surrounding him, or a few girls that fawned over his face and hair who would push him out of the way. But it didn't really matter, because nothing eventful ever happened. Even so, Jr. was still plenty content with sitting behind mark, looking at the pale (probably soft- not that he thought about kissing it or anything) skin on the back of the red-haired boy's neck. Sometimes, Mark would bob his head to the music he was listening to, and Jr. would wonder what kind of music it was. Did he like Michael Buble too?! Probably, not, he didn't seem like that kind of kid. Still. Imagine if they shared those kinds of interests? Although, he did remember that one time, Mark was humming along to one of the songs he was listening too. Jr. still couldn't tell what it was though, either the song had way too much auto-tune, or Mark just couldn't sing.

Jinyoung did know that the kid had other talents though, especially in dancing. Sometimes, he would go and watch, lag behind after school and stay around to sneak a peak at the dancing machine. Technically, the dancing machine was Yugyeom, but Jr's preference was Mark, not some rude, immature kid that deserved to be in middle school. (That punk, he needs to learn to respect his elders. I don’t care if I’m only three years older.) Sometimes, he would just sit there and try to catch a glimpse of the group dancing, other times there would be less "fangirls" hanging around (Jr didn't classify himself as one of them, because he definitely did not only like Mark for his looks, although it was definitely an added bonus) and Jr could leisurely stand by the door. Luckily enough, Jr's friend JB was actually in there with Mark, so it didn't look too weird for him to stand around waiting all the time (actually it did).

Of course, Jinyoung couldn't just go on with a puppy dog crush on Mark, or he really would end up being just like one of the fangirls. So he decided to make his first move. Or at least, get someone else to do it for him. That's what best friends are for, anyways. Doing your dirty work for you, duh. So that’s how we got where we are today.

“Jaebummmm, please,” Jinyoung whined, attempting the most adorable aegyo he could pull off. “Why not? All I’m asking is for you to sorta introduce us but in a way that makes me, you know, look cool.”

“Dude, I don’t really care about your love life, how do you plan on communicating if you can’t even talk to him on your own after fawning over him for months? Now go away, I’m trying to get things done,” and Jaebum promptly turned back to his computer.

“You’re not even doing anything right now! I’m begging you, don’t you think I’ve tried? We don’t have any common interests that I know of,” Jr. complained, flopping back on JB’s bed. “I don’t even know what style he likes, couldn’t you at least try to find out if he likes my kind of guy?”

JB just smirked, not even looking at Junior before replying, “Yeah, well tell you what. Mark definitely does not like that lame Spock hair you’re trying to… cultivate. Now go home, my mom’s been complaining that you’re eating all of our food so you can’t eat at our house again.” He got up from his desk and pulled Jinyoung up.

“No, wait, but JB, please can’t you, just, listen, hold up,” Jinyoung protested, as he was dragged all the way down the steps to the front door.

“Leaving already Jinyoung? Why don’t you stay over and eat-“ began Ms. Lim, before he was wrestled outside onto the porch.

“No mom, remember, you don’t want the brat over here anymore because he eats all our food,” Jaebum yelled through the door.

“Hey, you liar, I’m hungry! Now let me back in to the angel that is your mother, and you promised to help me win Mark’s heart,” began Jinyoung, before he was cut off.

“I thought you liked Mark, whom I never promised to help you get, not my mom. Now go, I have work to do, and if you want even a chance of me mentioning you to Mark, then you better stay on my good side. See you tomorrow, and don’t forget to study for that math test,” was all Jr. heard before a door was slammed shut in his face. Not before a whiff of heavenly stew seeped out the crack, though.

He just sniffed, then turned around slowly. “Aish. And I really like buddae jjigae too.”

It takes him a couple hours before he registers what Jaebum told him.

Chapter 6: This was too cute! The puns were pretty good too, even if I did want to kick you because of them. This as a whole was great! I also kind of suspected that Bambam was Mark's friend soon after he made an appearance and that he told Mark about Jinyoung's crush after Jinyoung was like 'why does this stranger know so much about me and Mark?' after he Bambam left. Anyways, this was great! <3
