Foreword
"Park Hani."
Hani held back the tears that were threatening to fall as she gazed down at the empty street below her.
She was standing at the edge, only a jump away to the end of her misery.
Only a jump away to freedom.
She almost did it, to be honest with herself.
But the only thing that got in her way was the one who was standing behind her right then and calling out her name.
He just had to get in the way of her goal.
Again.
Just like what happened ten years ago.
"Park Hani, stop!"
The voice of an eight-year-old boy stopped her from taking any step further.
It was a voice that was so familiar to her.
"Hani, please! Don't jump!"
A voice that was so dear to her.
"Please, I'll do anything!" the boy pleaded.
A voice that belonged to the one she cherished the most.
"I'll always be by your side!"
Her eight-year-old self turned around at the offer, and instantly noticed her tearful friend looking at her with a pleading look.
"Promise?" she asked.
The boy nodded.
"I promise."
"What the hell are you doing?!"
Another voice interrupted her flashback.
It belonged to the same boy from ten years ago, only it sounded older.
Hearing his voice, especially after everything he did to her, made her want to scream at the top of her lungs, telling him to leave her alone.
But listening to him actually talking to her made her want to jump even more badly.
A sob escaped her quivering lips.
"Why me?"
Her voice was small and shaky. She stepped away from the edge of the rooftop and charged towards the boy, grabbing his collar.
"Why me?!"
The boy stood silent as Hani shook him furiously.
"Tell me why you did this to me!"
Her voice grew louder with every word she spat towards him to the point where she was yelling at him with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Answer me..." she spoke when she calmed down a little.
"I'll always be by your side!"
"I promise."
Liar. She thought. You lied to me, you bastard!
"Answer me...
"...Jung Daehyun."
