Married To My Boss
Chapter Nine
Haru
This would be the third time I've been inside Kris Wu's white BMW and just like the previous two, the whole ride was a silent one. I didn't like it, but I didn't want to break it either. I mean, what would I say to him? I don't even know how to start a conversation with this man at all! Sure, he's my fiancé now but seriously, he's Kris Wu; the CEO of one of the most successful company in Asia. His aura screams power, money and dominance. For the first time in my life, I don't feel so confident with myself. Not when my future husband is Kris Wu. How the hell am I supposed to stand next to this man?!
"You're very quiet, Haru." I blinked and turned my head to the side, not sure if he had spoken or was it just my mind playing tricks on me. He was staring ahead as he drove but managed me a small glance and smirked. "Is there something on my face?" he asked and I could hint the playfulness in his voice. Or was it sarcasm? Hmmm...
"I don't have anything to say to you, Mr. Wu." I responded as I turned back to the front, not bothering to cover up the truth. I heard him sigh before saying, "We have got to change that." I frowned and turned to him. "Change what, sir?"
"That," he said with a glance. "That 'sir' and 'Mr.Wu' bull." What? "You've got to stop calling me sir or Mr Wu, and in case you forgot, you were the one who proposed we get married which basically means we're engaged now and engaged couples don't use formalities with each other." I blinked and blushed at his words. What should I call him then? He seemed to have heard my inner thought and gave me another glance. "Kris."
Confused, I stared at him and he sighed in annoyance. "You can call me Kris." I'm sorry but did I hear it wrongly? He wants me to call him by his first name? "Song Haru, I'm getting tired of talking to myself." I heard him say after a while and I blushed before clearing my throat. "You want me to call you... K-Kris?" I asked just to confirm and he nodded with yet another sigh. "But that's your first name!"
Kris Wu turned to look at me with a raised brow and scoffed. "You don't say." I looked forward to avoid his eyes and realised that we were at the traffic light somewhere close to the hospital and turned back to him. "Is it really okay to call you that?" I asked and he sighed for the - ehh I lost count - times. "Yes. If we're in the office with others, you can call me Mr. Wu. Alone, I'm Kris to you. But if you do it the other way around-" he smirks at me before proceeding to drive. "I will kiss you."
Kris
She was silent after that. I simply ignored her and continued to drive my way to the hospital and searched for a parking spot. Once I managed to park my car and cut the engine, I unbuckled my seat belt and turned to Haru, noticing that she was still in a daze. Instead of getting out of the car immediately, I leaned my back slightly against the door so I could get a better look on her.
Her eyebrows were pulled very closely together and I knew what she was thinking. Would I really kiss her if she accidentally slips? Is she able to make sure she doesn't slip to save herself? I chuckled to myself before catching sight of a reflection of a man smiling from the car window. Is that... me? I blinked in confusion before quickly putting my straight face and stared at the window again, finally acknowledging the reflection of a scowling man as me. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair before deciding that it was getting late and the visiting hours are about to end soon. I cleared my throat to grab her attention and she seemed to gain her focus before turning to me.
"We're here?" she asked. "We've arrived for quite a while now. You'd know if you were paying attention," I told her, my voice sounding cold as it always was. My expression might have been too much because Haru looked surprised and bit her bottom lip. She mumbled an apology before fumbling to open the car door which I had yet to unlock. "Uhh..." she started as she timidly turned to me and I pressed a button to finally unlock the doors.
I followed her out and pressed a button to lock the car. Once the car made a beeping sound, I began to walk towards the hospital entrance and I could hear her heels click-clacking behind me as she struggled to follow my pace. The sliding door opens as we neared it and we stepped in to find Luhan and Xiumin waiting by the hallway. "What took you so long?" Xiumin asked as we approached them.
"None of your business." I told him and walked away. A few moments later, footsteps fell with mine and I could see Xiumin's figure from the side. I could also hear Luhan's hushed voice talking behind us but I failed to hear anything from my fiancé apart from the sound of her heels. We reached the elevator and Xiumin pressed for the button. Luckily, the door immediately opened and we stepped inside followed by a few nurses. I was standing in the middle between Luhan and Xiumin while Haru was directly behind me.
From the reflection at the elevator door, I could see the eyes of the nurses on the three of us. I was used to it, and I was uninterested. I could tell that Xiumin and Luhan could also feel their gazes, and just like me, they ignored it and stared straight ahead. At some point, I realised one of them throwing glances at Haru before the rest followed and I narrowed my eyes at this. The look on their faces were enough for me to tell that they were questioning her presence amongst us.
Feeling somewhat annoyed, my hand made their way behind my back and I managed to grab hers before interlacing our fingers together just as the door opened to the 8th floor. Without wasting any time, I strode out of the elevator with Haru in tow and the other two behind her. I felt her trying to pull her hand away from mine, but I slightly squeezed it and she stopped trying.
Once we reached my grandfather's room, I let go of her hand and slid open the door. I stopped short, however, when I realised that he wasn't alone.
Xiumin got behind the wheel as the door of the front passenger seat opened and Luhan stepped into his car with a blank look on his face. The elder sighed and started the engine before pulling away from the hospital carpark. As he drove, Xiumin managed a short glance towards his silent best friend and sighed. "Well, that was a surprise, wasn't it?" he asked, finally breaking the silence.
"Yeah." Luhan replied nonchalantly. "She must've flown in this morning, huh?" Xiumin tried again but Luhan gave him the same answer with the same tone. Frustrated, the elder stopped the car at the side of the road and unbuckled his seatbelt before turning to his best friend. Luhan was still unmoving, staring straight ahead with his mind elsewhere.
"Luhan..." Xiumin called after a while and the male slowly turned his head. "Are you alright?" he asked softly, knowing that the younger was in the state of confusion. Luhan took a moment before he replied with a curt and hesitant nod, which of course Xiumin didn't buy. "Come on, man. Talk to me." he persuaded.
"I... I don't know what to say, Umin." Luhan whispered, his eyes staring into nothing. "I just...I'm-" he sighed and leaned back into his seat, closing his eyes. "I'm just surprised, that's all."
"You weren't the only one." "Yeah?" Xiumin nodded although Luhan couldn't see him with his eyes closed. "She looks...different."
"...yeah."
Kris watched as the former Chairman slept, the sound of his breathing loud and labored on the white hospital bed. He didn't like the colour cause it makes him feel empty and it makes the pale patient look much more worse. He turned his gaze to the bathroom when he heard the sound of the door closing and instantly made eye contact with a tall, brown haired beauty. She threw him a small smile and Kris nod once in recognition before turning back to the figure on the hospital bed. He heard her sigh but he ignored it.
"It's been a while, hasn't it Yifan?" her voice reached his ears, silent but loud in the quiet room. "Yes, it has. When did you fly in?" he asked, turning to face her again. "This afternoon. My parents and uncle Yuhan are here too. They should be at the mansion now." Kris's brow raised at this. "My father is here?" The female nodded and she turned her gaze to the figure lying on the bed.
"Grandpa looks so weak compared to the last time I saw him," she commented. Kris couldn't help but scoff at this. "When was that, Liyin?" The female stiffened before moving to the side of the bed, eyes never leaving the old man. "A while,
