Married To My Boss
Chapter Eight
*this might be a double update for some of you. For those of you who haven't read chapter 7, do read them first :)
"We go by my rules."
It was only the next morning did Haru start to worry about Kris's words. I wonder what are his rules? Would it be a biased rule? What if it's something I can't do!? Haru sat up from her bed with a sigh. What were you thinking, Haru? If we get married, he'll be the man of the house. As a wife, you must obey him. Oh God... She spent another hour lazing in bed since it was the weekend, and luckily Luhan hadn't called her in for work like the previous Sunday.
She unwillingly got up from the bed when she felt restless and head to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. She stopped midway by the living room, however, when her front door suddenly opened and her mother stepped in. "M-Mother..." she exclaimed, surprise to see her presence in her apartment. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
"What? Can't I go visit my own daughter?" her mother replied as she stepped into the apartment. She looked around and made a 'tsk' sound, but made no further comment. Haru, still confused, could only watch. Her mother had never paid her a visit ever since she moved out of the house so her presence was totally unexpected and surprising. However, Haru found herself slightly relieve to know that her mother had willingly stopped by her place.
When Hanna roamed her eyes at her, Haru realised that she was still in her pajamas and she was sure she had quite a bedhair. "Sorry, I just got up from bed." she told her with a sheepish smile. "Go wash up while I prepare breakfast then," she suddenly said. Only then did Haru realised that she was holding a bag of what seems to be food. She managed a small nod and turned back to her bedroom, forgetting the real reason she wanted to go to the kitchen.
Ten minutes later, Haru walked out of her bedroom and spotted her mother standing by the stove, pouring some soup into a bowl. She turned and walked over to the table to place the bowl with the rest of the food she had prepared and looked up to see Haru standing not far from the table. "I believe you still eat rice for breakfast." No, it's been a while. "Yes, but sometimes I don't." Haru told her mother as she walked over to the cupboard to retrieve some glasses before going over to the fridge to grab a carton of mango juice.
"You should," her mother said as they both sat down at the table. Silence filled the air as they ate, Haru inwardly crying of joy with every bite of her mother's cooking. It's been a while since Hanna had cooked for her, and if it weren't for the fact that she was right in front of her, Haru would've thought she was merely dreaming.
After a while, Hanna cleared and Haru took it as a sign that she had something to say. "So I heard from Kris's mother that you both agreed to the marriage." she started and Haru stopped chewing the meat in . She wordlessly nodded her head and began to pick on her food. "That's good. I'm proud of you."
What?
Luhan dropped the spoon in his hand and stared at Kris in disbelief. Actually, he wasn't the only one reacting that way. Chen looked around the room and saw the same identical expression on the other's faces before turning to Kris. "Congratulations, Kris. You managed to turn these idiots into frozen ice. I mean look at these idiots. They look like statues," he laughed. Kris glared at him but Chen simply shrugged and resumed eating the pudding Kyungsoo had prepared.
They were all gathered at the latter's house on the weekend, something they prefer to do from time to time. It's never at the same place though; sometimes it'll be Chen's condo, or Baekhyun's or Chanyeol's, but most of the time, they prefer Kyungsoo's since the male's fridge is always filled with food. They were all enjoying the dessert Kyungsoo had made in the living room after dinner when Kris decided to drop yet another bomb.
"Are you for real, Kris?" Suho asked, always seemingly to be the first to recover from every news Kris brought. "I thought Chen said-"
"I changed my mind." Kris cuts him off, twirling a spoon in between his large fingers.
'Why?" Luhan asked. "Did Haru agree to this?" Kyungsoo and Baekhyun exchanged bewildered looks at the mention of her name and immediately turned to Kris. "Haru? As in Song Haru?" Kyungsoo asked, his big eyes growing bigger. Kris was sure that if he was to hit the back of the male's head, those eyes would definitely pop out and roll onto the ground.
"Y-You're marrying Haru?" Baekhyun asked in disbelief. He turned to Chen who seemed to be the only calm one on the table and hit his shoulder hard, causing the male to yell in pain. "What the hell, Baek?" "You knew, didn't you?" the man exclaimed and Chen hissed. "So?"
"And you didn't tell us?" Chen raised both his hands as if in surrender and pointed a finger to Kris. "He told me not to. Who am I to defy the boss?" Chen snorted. Luhan was still staring at Kris, ignoring the ongoing squabbles between the other guys. He was shocked beyond words but he himself was clueless on his own behaviour.
Kris finally noticed his gaze and raised a brow at him. "What is it, Luhan?" he asked, his voice cold and uninterested; as usual. "Why? You said you didn't want to do it. Why the sudden change of mine?" Kris frowned at him. "What's the deal with you, Luhan? You said you have nothing going on with her."
"I don't." "That's not how you're acting at the moment, is it?" Luhan took a deep breath to calm himself. He was getting too worked up, he realised, and when he looked around, he noticed that every one was looking at him.
"Is everything okay?" Chanyeol asked with his deep voice, his eyes going back and forth between his two close friends. Tao nudged the guy and signalled him to be quiet which he obliged. Suho sighed and leaned back in his chair, all the while his eyes bored into Kris's disinterested figure on the couch. Kai and Sehun exchanged looks before going back into devouring their pudding; Kai stealing the ones in Kyungsoo's hand. The latter simply let him as he turned to Baekhyun who was still frowning at Chen.
After a moment of awkward silence, Xiumin finally reached his hand out and placed it on Luhan's arm, pulling the Chinese male back to his seat. He didn't even realise that he had been standing, towering over Kris who sat looking disinterested and not the slightest bit shaken by his actions on the couch. "Come on, Lu. Sit down." Xiumin whispered and he sighed before sitting back onto the couch.
Silence filled the room after Luhan's sudden outburst. The man himself was confused with his own behaviour, and so were the others. As for Kris, he didn't even give a damn. He still didn't want to go on with the promise, but the agreement had been made and there's no turning back. He recalled the joyous look on his grandfather's face when they delivered the news, and he found it impossible in his cold heart to take his words back. He has his own reasons to agree to it all, but as for now, Kris is determined to keep them to himself.
A yawn was suddenly heard amidst the silence, causing everyone to turn to the source and found Lay sitting upright. He looked around with a bored expression and asked, "What did I miss?"
Haru
I bit my bottom lip as I waited for my best friend and her boyfriend to speak up. They've been staring at me for one whole minute now, and it's beginning to annoy me. I had finally found the courage to tell them about the wedding, and they had both gathered at my apartment after dinner. With a sigh, I got up from my couch and hurried to my bedroom before throwing myself onto my soft bed. I heard some shuffles of feet and turned my head to see Naeun looking so lost as she stepped into my room.
"Haru, you said-"
"I know what I said." I sighed and leaned my head back down. I felt the mattress slightly dip as Naeun sat on my bed and I heard her sigh. "Why did you suddenly agree then?" she asked.
"I just... I don't know." I honestly told her. Is it because of the hope I see in Grandpa Wu's eyes? Is it because of the promise grandpa made with him? Or is it becaus
