Hyejoon shivers. I hate winter. I hate this uniform, and I hate new schools. The brunette is standing in from of a big building. Behind her she can hear the trees of the local park being shaken by the cold winter wind. She straightens her uniform once more as she looks at the big clock which is placed above the entrance of the school. 9:30 O’clock. She was supposed to be in her new class by now but thanks to public transport she got insanely lost. Finally arriving at her destination she could feel a knot in her stomach. Slightly scared of what might be waiting in front of her, Hyejoon opens the doors to the main hall with a heavy push. It’s much warmer inside the college building; the walls are painted yellow and white. Posters, schedules and sign in sheets for multiple clubs were hung across the walls on big pin boards. She slowly walked up to the small office right in front of her, counting the black and white tiles. A friendly lady looked up at her when she arrived at the window. “Yes, can I help you?” she asked kindly. “Well, I’m supposed to have my first day today.. I’m a transfer student. My name is Kim Hyejoon. I got lost with public transport, cause I just moved here.”
The lady smiles at her. “That’s fine, honey. Please go to room 502. It’s to the left from here, through the corridor and another left,” the lady kindly explains. Hyejoon bows to thank the secretary and sets off to the homeroom where her first class is being held. She lets her thoughts drift off as she walks through the corridor. What if they don’t like me? I had plenty of friends in my old school.. She sighs as she looks through the huge windows on the left side of the corridor. Snow started to fall. Another left and she arrived at Room 502. The knot in her stomach was still there; she was so nervous.
After knocking three times, Hyejoon opened the door and bowed in apology. “I’m sorry to disturb” she mumbled. A middle aged man waved away her apology and summoned to come stand next to him. Hyejoon quickly closed the door behind her and stood in front of her new class, with the nervous teacher next to her. For some reason she felt that the teacher was more nervous than she was. “Class, this is our new transfer student,” he quickly looked on a not he was holding, “Kim Hyejoon.” Slowly, Hyejoon let her eyes slid up from the floor toward her classmates. They all stared at her with interest.  They all gave her a slight bow. “Why don’t you sit next to, uh, Yuni” the teacher stumbled over his words as he pointed to a blonde girl with an empty seat next to her. Hyejoon moved to her new assigned seat; on the far right, second from the front.
The blonde girl called Yuni had a pointy nose and was obviously wearing circle lenses. She was rather skinny and Hyejoon could tell she wasn’t very confident reading from her body language.
Hyejoon didn’t pay much attention to the last half hour of math class. Yuni was very focussed on what teacher Kang had to tell, however. Hyejoon just wished she could leave this boring class already. Due to her boredom, she started scanning the classroom. There were approximately 15 students in this class and they all had a typical nerdy look. Obviously, cause this was math class and no one with a right mind would pick this class because they liked it. Hyejoon however needed it if she wanted to become a teacher herself, which was her dream.

Hyejoon couldn’t be happier when the last doorbell rang for today. Her first day had been boring, filled with awkward greetings, introductions and classes which couldn’t catch her interest. Rushing to grab her backpack and leave the classroom, Hyejoon ran out the door and hit something when she entered the corridor. The girl she bumped into was short, had warm brown hair with a fringe swept to the left side of her face, which was set on war-mode. “Excuse you and your rudeness!” the girl spat at her. Hyejoon mumbled a faint apology as she let the girl pass her. Behind the girl there were two other girls, one with big curly hair with an infectious smile on her face, mouthing; “don’t worry about it”, while the other one was way too busy laughing at her friend like a maniac and slapping her friends arm.
That went well.. Hyejoon walked slowly through the corridors to avoid more accidents. The school slowly started to become emptier as most students went home after their last classes. Hyejoon made her way throught the yellow corridors to the exit. The cold winter wind hit her once again as it blew her hair out of her face. She cursed under her breath and started rubbing her hands to keep them warm as she walked to the nearest bus stop.  As she sat herself down at the little bench, trying to hide herself from the cold, she looked at the road. I hope the bus comes soon, this cold is killing me. Hyejoon stared in front of her, towards the town’s park. On the other side she spotted a big building. Probably another college, she thought to herself.
Minutes passed as Hyejoon waited for her bus. Relieved, she stood up as she saw the bus approaching from the left. She couldn’t wait to get into the comforting warmness of the bus. As the bus stopped short in front of her and the door opened, she heard loud footsteps. A boy came running over to the bus from across the street. He had sort of orange/brown hair and full lips. He was slightly taller than her and had bright brown eyes. She stared at his face, completely taken back by his presence. The boy panted and stared back at her, probably wondering why she was still waiting outside instead of getting on the bus. Hyejoon quickly recovered her state and stepped into the bus, paid for a ticket and sat down at the first chair she saw. Her face was red because of the cold, but only she knew it was because she couldn’t help but stare at this beautiful young man as he paid his own ticket. The boy was still panting from the run he had and walks past Hyejoon to the back of the bus, where he sat comfortably. Hyejoon had to refrain herself from looking back to take another look at him. Don’t be creepy. She played with her bag nervously.  The bus trip seemed longer than it was, due to her nervousness. One stop before hers, the boy got off. As he walked past her she could smell his cologne. He greeted the bus driver as he got off and looked at Hyejoon through the window. Hyejoon barely dared to look back at him, and when she did; he gave her a cheeky wink. At that point, the bus started driving again and Hyejoon was left with a red face. She got off at the next stop, confused.
Dragging her feet across the pavement, still thinking about that guy; Hyejoon walked through the streets to her home. Mindlessly she walked up to her front door, shoved her key into the hole and stepped into the comfortable aura of her home. Still numbed by the weird situation, she kicked her shoes off and walked on to the kitchen to hang her jacket over one of the kitchen chairs. Her younger sister sat across the table, with her study books in front of her. She was a high schooler with black, short hair and very unlike Hyejoon. Hyesoo silently stared at her bigger sister with a judging look as she sat down. “Hello to you too” she says sassily. Hyejoon stares at her sister and felt herself getting annoyed with her little attitude. “What are you doing?”Hyejoon asked Hyesoo. “Homework, obviously.” She replies, once again with a tone that did not please Hyejoon. Before getting angry with her little sister she stood up to get a drink. On the fridge was a note.

I won’t be back before 9.
Please make sure you make your sister something to eat
Love, Mom.

Hyejoon stared from the note to the sassy expression of her little sister, as if she tried to say “yes, now go make me food like you were ordered.” She growled with annoyance, ordered her little sister to go walk the dog and started putting on rice.
After dinner, Hyejoon went up the stairs to her small room in the attic. Her room was cold and blank. They just moved to this town and half of her stuff was still in boxes. The floor squeaked as she walked over to her bed and threw herself on it, not even bothering to take her uniform off. Feeling so tired from her first day at her new school she couldn’t help but feel the slumber taking over. The last thing she saw were the bright brown eyes she saw earlier today, winking at her.

Today, I won’t be late. Hyejoon rushed to put on her shoes and grab her lunch box. I can’t miss this bus. Hastily she puts on her jacket and runs out. The winter was still in its full glory and the snow crunched underneath her soles. Hyejoon reached the bus stop and waits patiently for the bus to arrive as she puts on her pink woollen hat and woollen gloves. Today, she was prepared for this cold. The bus arrived short after she finished wrapping herself in the warm accessories. While Hyejoon steps into the bus and pays for her ticket she can’t help but think back about yesterday. Will he be in the same bus again? She was smarter this time; she sat all the way in the back of the bus where she could see everyone else and perhaps who got into the bus. The bus was quite full because of the students all going to college on this very morning. Hyejoon felt her tummy turn when the bus stopped at the stop after hers. The doors opened and about 5 people got onto the bus, including the light brown haired boy from yesterday. She looked at him as he waited patiently for the other people to buy their ticket and taking up the last seats in the bus. Except for one right next to Hyejoon. She felt herself panicking. Oh, no; he’s coming over here! The boy looked curiously at her as he walked over to the only seat left on the bus and sat down comfortably. He drummed with his fingers on his knee as his head bopped to the music in his ears. Hyejoon could hear the music coming from his headphones and felt herself leaning closer to him to hear what he was listening to. Suddenly the boy looked at her. Shocked, Hyejoon started to play with her long brown hair and started fixing her bangs for no reason. Her cheeks turned red and she quickly looked out of the window. The boy smirked and shook his head slightly.
The bus stopped at college and almost everyone got up to get off, except for the boy sitting next to Hyejoon. Slightly disappointed, she got off the bus and looked at it as it drove past her. She sighed as she entered the schools ground. While walking towards the entrance, Hyejoon heard a soft voice call out her name.
“Hyejoon! It’s Hyejoon right?” Hyejoon turned and saw the same blonde girl from math class walking up to her with another girl following. Hyejoon nods slightly and mumbled a clumsy hello. “Remember me? I’m Yuni! And this is Saenan,” the blonde girl pointed at her friend with dark brown hair and same coloured eyes. “I’m pretty sure we’re all in the same classes for today, so why don’t you hang out with us?” Yuni smiled at Hyejoon. Hyejoon felt a bit embarrassed but smiled. “Yes, that would be great.”
The girls strolled towards a bench; they still had 15 minutes until their first class. The trees were leafless and looked grey. The bright white colour of the school matched well with the snow that was covering the school grounds. They engaged some small talk.
“Where do you come from? The school year started last August, it’s December.. Why did you come almost halfway through the first year? Didn’t you like your own school?” Saenan and Yuni asked curiously, one question after another. Hyejoon played with her gloves uncomfortably. “I lived in a town about three hours away from here, my mother got a job offer at the local hospital here..” she mumbled. The girls nodded and looked at each other. “It must be hard to enter a new school in a new town. Don’t worry! We’ll hang out with you!” Saenan smiled at Hyejoon. The schoolbell rang; indicating the start of the first lessons of today. The girls jumped up and made their way towards the school. “Let’s show her the school during our first break, Saenan,” said Yuni. Saenan agreed and started naming the cool spots to study and where they hang out during a spare hour. As they entered their classroom and took place at their assigned spots for math class, Hyejoon couldn’t help but smile. She made her first friends; she couldn’t believe it went so smoothly!

When their first break arrived, Hyejoon and her new friends set off to the college’s cafeteria.  Loads of students were already seated at the long white tables which took about 90% of the space of the cafeteria. On the left side there were counters with food and snacks and lunch-ladies who made all the delicious foods. The right side was covered by huge windows which took up the whole walls. A big door led to the school’s square, but it was locked cause of the weather. Although the complete school was painted white and yellow, the cafeteria had blue walls and green floors. Hyejoon couldn’t think of a worse combination of colours as they walked towards the counter. “I am starving” Yuni complained. “You eat so much, I can’t believe you don’t gain a pound,” Saenan complained back. Hyejoon stared at her backpack which she was holding in her left hand. I already have a lunchbox for today, and I don’t have the money to buy these snacks.. Saenan looked at Hyejoon. “You already have packed lunch?” she asked carefully. Hyejoon nodded while looking away embarrassed. She saw Saenan whisper something to Yuni who was already stacking kimbap and spring rolls on her tray. Hyejoon heard a faint “oh” coming from one of the girls and felt even more awkward that she already did. “Let’s go!” Saenan said brightly. Hyejoon looked up. “Where?” she asked confused. “Well to have a seat and eat our meals of course,” Saenan rolled her eyes, “Yuni is buying me food today; she owes me money anyways. She’ll join in a second!” Saenan smiled once again to cheer Hyejoon up.
As the two girls walked over to a free spot at the far end on first table from the right; Hyejoon looked around a bit. The cafeteria was packed with students in uniforms She noticed that some uniforms were different than hers. Saenan notices her look at explains; “first years have a simple brown tie or scarf for the ladies. Second years have brown with a blue stripe and every year adds a stipe. This way everyone sees properly who their elders are.” Hyejoon spotted a lot of first years on the table she was sitting on. It seemed like the years were divided by tables. The table behind her had mostly second years, where she spotted the girl she bumped into yesterday with her friends and loads of others around her. Hyejoon watched the girl smile brightly as she flipped her long hair over her shoulder. “Who is that?” “Hyejoon asked Saenan while Yuni walked up to their table and shoved food in front of Saenan’s nose. “That’s Shindae,” Yuni answers as she hands out chopsticks to Saenan, “Shindae is the most popular girl in school with her two friends Chaima and Baeri. Baeri is the small one who looks like she’s about to explode of happiness at any moment; she is also Saenan’s elder cousin. Chaima is the super tall girl with big curly hair. She is very kind and funny.” Hyejoon took another glance at the ladies on the other table. “We often hang out with her outside of school and during the other break; because the lunch tables are divided by on what year you are in. We usually hang out at the same bench we were sitting at this morning.” Yuni explains while she shoves a spring roll in . Hyejoon looked sceptical. “You guys hang out?”
Saenan nodded while continuing eating her rice with kimchi. Yuni suddenly gets excited to tell something but is completely full. “For God’s sake, Yuni stop being a pig,” Saenan complained. Yuni quickly swallows whatever she shoved in and starts to ramble. “I am dating Shindae’s boyfriend’s best friend!”  Hyejoon stared at her. “What.”
Yuni giggled. “Shindae is dating that boy who is sitting next to her, you see?” Yuni points slightly towards a boy with brown hair who is staring at Shindae with a loving smile. “That is Yoongi. His nickname is Suga, because man that boy is as sweet as candy...” Hyejoon stares at the boy. “Anyways,” Yuni continues, “he has this childhood friend called Namjoon, who is my boyfriend!” Yuni grinned so widely that Hyejoon wondered if it hurt her cheeks.
“Well where is your boyfriend?” Hyejoon asks as she takes a bite of her home made lunch. “Oh, he doesn’t go here. He goes to the school across the Green. The Green is the name of the park that separates the both schools. It’s a private school.”
Hyejoon couldn’t help but wonder if the boy from the bus would also go to that school. He didn’t get off at our college, so he must be a student from the private school. Saenan waved shortly at Shindae when they walked past then to go back to class.  Saenan and Hyejoon separated from Yuni when they went to their creative writing class. Yuni went off to a different class and waved as she walked to the opposite direction. “See you later guys!”

Hyejoon and Saenan walked into the class and went straight to the first seats in front. “I love creative writing.” Saenan whispered excited. As the other students walked in and took a seat, Hyejoon watched Saenan eagerly preparing her desk with notepads, pencils and pens. The teacher of this class was a tall lady, who was slightly overweight, walked over to her desk. “Goodday everyone, today we will work on the story I gave as an assignment last week. Please, continue and if you have any questions; I will be here.”  She sat down and opened her laptop. Hyejoon nervously looked around. What was she supposed to do? She saw Saenan writing like her life depended on it, and her classmates were basically doing the same. Hyejoon raised her hand. “Teacher?” she mumbled.
“Yes? Oh right you’re the new kid,” the teacher replied, “Yes, please make sure you write a story which contains a character dying. Express yourself!” Hyejoon was just as confused as she was before she got the explanation and thought she might as well just write something down.
Halfway class Saenan handed over her paper. “I’m done, teacher” she bowed as she put her paper on the teacher’s desk. “Well done, Miss Ahn. Maybe you could help out your new neighbour with her paper?” the teacher proposed without looking up from her laptop. Saenan happily walked back to her seat and turned to Hyejoon. “Ok, let me tell you something. Since we’re friend now and you’re the only friend I have in this class.” Saenan whispered.
Hyejoon looked at her with interest. “What’s up?”
“Alright, well do you see that boy with dark brown hair on the second row, second chair from the back?” Saenan continued whispering. Hyejoon tried to look behind her as discrete as possible. She noticed a small boy, completely focussed on the paper in front of him. He was chewing his pencil with his big front teeth and leaned his head on his left hand. “What about him,” Hyejoon whispered back. “I am sooooo having a crush on him… he hangs out with us too. He is like friends with Jin or something, I don’t know” Saenan started rambling in whisper-mode. “He’s sooooo cute.” She blushed. Hyejoon let out a little snicker. Silly. Should I tell her about the boy on the buy, though..? She decides not to. After two long classes full of Saenan sighing over her crush, the second break finally arrived. Hyejoon walked towards the cafeteria but Saenan grabber her wrist. “We’re going outside, silly!” She said. Hyejoon let Saenan lead her towards the schoolyard and walked towards the bench they were sitting this morning. On the bench she saw Shindae with Suga sitting next to each other. Chaima was on her other side, sitting on the railing of the bench with her feet on the bench. In front of them stood Baeri; telling them a story very excitedly. They were surrounded by a group of boys. Behind her Hyejoon could hear a Yuni call out for them. “Wait up, guys!” The three girls walked up towards the group. Hyejoon could feel the same knot in her stomach which she felt on her first day at college.
“Hey guys!” Saenan said kindly. Chaima and Baeri happily greeted back, Shindae only nodded while putting her focus back on her Yoongi, who smiled. “Guys, I’d like to introduce you to Hyejoon. She’s a transfer student and this is her second day!” Yuni explained.
Some of the boys surrounding the group started to come closer. A skinny boy with a black leather jacket on and black hair walked straight up to Hyejoon. “Hello, miss. It is SUCH a pleasure to meet you. My name is Park Jimin, but you can call me honey,” he said with a warm voice. Before Hyejoon could respond, Jimin gets pushed away by another guy with the biggest smile, showing his big teeth. “Don’t mind Mister Popularity, here,” He apologized, “my name is Hoseok.” Hoseok put out his hand to shake Hyejoons. Hyejoon smiled shyly. A taller guy with a fine mix between red and brown hair who was standing behind Suga waved at her and said: “Jin, nice to meet you.”
Baeri continued with her story and made big arm movements to intensify it. The gang started laughing at her story when Hyejoon noticed that Jin was staring at Baeri with an intense look. She let her eyes glide over the group, scanning her new surroundings. Hoseok and Jimin started fooling around, pulling on Jimin’s leather jacket. Chaima and Baeri both laughing very loudly while Shindae and Suga snicker at the scene. Yuni grabbed some leftover foods from her backpack from the first break and started eating spring rolls with Saenan. Hyejoon couldn’t help but feel like this group weren’t friends for a long time. Well, at least some of them weren’t. Obviously the second year students of the group were all good friends. Saenan and Yuni were new to the group as well. But not as new as I am… Hyejoon felt like she should keep still for now and just watch the group have fun.
From behind her, Hyejoon saw the boy from her creative writing walk up to the group. “Hey Jungkook!”Jimin shouted as he walked towards the boy. “What took you so long, man? Did you meet the new girl yet?” Jimin’s focus went back to Hyejoon and she felt herself turning red. “Jungkook smiled at her as he nodded. “Hi, I’m Jungkook. Or Kookie.” Hyejoon couldn’t helpt but think that Jungkook reminded her of a very happy hamster.
Jungkook walked over to the bench and sat down at the only left spot next to Suga. Baeri sat down at the spot where Chaima put her feet. All of the sudden all eyes were on Hyejoon.
“Where do you come from?” a sassy voice asked her. Shindae looked at Hyejoon with one eyebrow lifted. She held Yoongi’s hand tightly. “From a small town 3 hours away from here. My mother got a job offer at the local hospital here so me and my sister moved with her.” Hyejoon replied softly. “Gosh, you don’t have to be afraid to answer,” Shindae mocked while laughing. Hyejoon felt herself getting annoyed with said person. Chaima quickly laughed it off and asked; “How old is your sister?”
Hyejoon tells her she is a freshman in high school and Chaima nods.
Jimin finds his opening again. “Is your sister as hot as you are?” He laughs with the most infectious laugh you could imagine. Hyejoon turns even redder, and before she could snap back at him to tell him to shut up, Shindae started speaking. “Jimin, please, stop embarrassing yourself. Give me some candy.” She reached out her hand for him and smiled softly. Yoongi snickered as he saw their best friend rush over to give Shindae his bag of sweets. While grabbing some sweets, Shindae smiled at Hyejoon. “Jimin is a little forward sometimes.” Says Shindae while Jimin walks back to Hoseok, laughing.
Yuni and Saenan turned to Hyejoon. “Are you coming back in? We have class soon.”
“Don’t the others have class too?”Hyejoon asked surprised and looked to the rest of the group.
“Nah, we have a spare hour,”Baeri answers. Slightly disappointed to leave the new group before she got to know them all properly, Hyejoon follows Saenan and Yuni back inside. Behind her are Jungkook and Jimin. Jimin throws his arm around Jungkook’s shoulder. “I guess we all have English class together, right?” He laughs his infectious laughter again. Jungkook nods. The little group arrives at classroom 408 on the third floor of the school and find their seats. Yuni and Saenan walk to the tables next to the window and sit next to each other. Hyejoon hesitates and walks to the seat in front of them. “Like I would let YOU sit alone.” She heard a mellow voice saying. As soon as Hyejoon reached her seat, Jimin already sat next to her. “Let’s have some fun, yes?” He grinned. Hyejoon rolled her eyes as she grabbed her notebook.
“Afternoon class, we’re going to start with greeting people today. Formal and informal. Pair up with the person next to you and try the following sentences in different ways.” The female teacher announced as she turned around to the blackboard behind her, and started writing down sentences.
“Ah, it seems like we’re already a great team, Hyejoon- ah!” Jimin says playfully. “Are you always this forward?” Hyejoon asks sharply. “Not always, miss. Only when I’m around pretty ladies,” Jimin winked and smiled. “Seriously, Jimin-ah, behave yourself already” Saenan sighed from behind them. “Alright, alright, I’m just playing” Jimin apologized and put his hands up as if he was surrendering.
Practicing with Jimin was hard. This young man seemed to have the skills to turn every normal greeting into a pick up line and Hyejoon couldn’t feel more uncomfortable. After giving him some fair warnings, he finally settles down and they worked on the assignment in peace. Jungkook was sitting in front of Jimin and Hyejoon noticed Saenan desperately sighing in his direction, with her head in her hands. Hyejoon gave her an elbow as to say; “stop being creepy!” Saenan quickly recovered her face and Yuni giggled.

The last bell rang. No more college for today, but also for this week. It was Friday.  “What are you doing this weekend,” Jimin asked smoothly as he slide towards Hyejoon while she was packing her bag to leave. “Jimin, I mean it; leave her alone already!” Saenan snapped at him. Jimin laughed as he quickly explained himself. “I just wanted to k
