“Kris.” Haneul was the first to speak up, she finally rose from her seat and took a few steps towards him and away from her friends who were still seated.

Chanyeol felt a rush of cold air replace the warmth that was by his side, and he pursed his lips to hide the frown that wanted to stretch across, he let out an unsteady breath as he watched Kris wrap his arm around her waist. The second he saw her body press to his side, he distinctly remembered this bubbling, almost suffocating heat curling in his chest cavity, as if he took Kris's gesture as a claim of his best friend as his.

And perhaps, even though he wouldn't admit it, Chanyeol's subconsciousness did.

“Hey.” Kris smiled into her hair as he hugged her close, placing his other hand over hers as she slung her arm round his torso. “You're here early, I was going to surprise you at work.”

“Yeah, my friends and I decided to have lunch here.” She answered, and then turned towards the group, all of their eyes observing the two. She blushed, clearing in slight embarrassment and then gestured to the man beside her. “Guys, this is Kris, my boyfriend.”

Four pairs of eyes immediately darted over to Chanyeol at the word 'boyfriend', them belonging to Baekhyun, Jongin, Jongdae and Kyungsoo while the others seemed to take a moment to take it all in.

“Kris, these are my friends, you already know Chanyeol.” Her eyes fell on the boy, and he was just staring at her blankly, not even a trace of emotion on his face. But then he quickly reacted, blinking away his clouding thoughts and held up his hand in a wave, he smiled gently, the muscles on his face pulling on their own accord.

“Hey, how are you man?” He reached out a hand towards him. “Congratulations, on you two dating by the way.”

Everyone was surprised at his attitude, even Chanyeol himself, but his mind was convinced that this was what he had to do, now that he had heard the confirmation he both expected and dreaded from Haneul herself, he might as well start to warm up to the idea of Kris.

Kris shook his hand, the mentioning of them dating drew his eyes into two little crescents of happiness. “I'm great, and thanks, I can't begin to say how happy I am to have her.”

The rest of the group watched the exchange with bated breaths as if they were simply waiting for something – cough, Chanyeol, cough – to explode and blow everything into pieces. But that never came, and when Chanyeol returned a smile and a nod, settling back in to his seat and stole a fry from Jongin's plate, they relaxed.

They began introducing themselves, one by one, starting with Soohyun.
