Jaejoong and his younger brother Junsu were both born in New Jersey USA to korean parents, a father who was born and raised here and a mother who was born in south korea and migrated to US at a young age. Mr. Kim was a US army soldier and Mrs. Kim owns a clothing store in downtown manhattan in new york. they were a happy family despite Mr. kim always being away because of his job as a soldier but everytime he gets a vacation he goes home to spend time with his sons.

After Junsu's 5th birthday, they found out Mr. Kim was given orders to fly to Iraq to join the other american soldiers fighting in the war. Mrs. Kim  cried everyday because of her fear for Mr. Kim's safety and Jaejoong and Junsu asked time and time again for their dad to not go. Mr. kim assured his family that he will try his best to be safe and that it was his duty not only to hsi family but also to his country that's why he had to go. The day their father had to leave, jae and su were in tears as they said goodbye to their father..

"appa...promise you will come back...neh?" jaejoong said as he hugged his father

"appa...i love you" junsu uttered as he followed his brother's actions

"i promise...now you two better take care of your mother while im away ok? promise me my little soldiers" Mr. Kim said as he he looked at his two young sons straight in the eye

"sir yes sir!" jae and junsu both said giving their father a salute

Mr. Kim kissed his wife goodbye and somehow Mrs. Kim had a feeling of uneasiness but she didn't want to make things harder for his husband and kids...

Mr. Kim waved one last time not knowing this will be the last time he will see his family ...

not even a year after on jaejoong's 7th birthday there was a knock on the door, Mrs. kim opened it only to find two US army soldiers in uniform standing infront of their door, without saying anything  yet Mrs. Kim broke down .. "we are very sorry ma'am.." one of the soldiers said

"mama?" jae said as he followed his mother at the door with his brother in his arms...

"jaejoong-ah...daddy...is gone..." Mrs. Kim said as he leveled with his sons and hugged them...

"of course..his in iraq ma that's why he is gone.." jae said thinking it was one of those days where his mom would cry because she was missing their father

"no baby...daddy is gone and we will never see him again..." mrs. kim explained as she took junsu who started crying loudly while repeating the words appa over and over like he understood what exactly happened...

young jaejoong cried silent tears as the fact that their father broke his promise that he will come back sank in..."you broke your promise but im not breaking mine appa..i will take care of mama and junsu...i promise..."
