"First we feel, then we fall." --James Joyce
The society values faction over blood, and switching factions means severing any and all ties to your past life. You'd likely never see your old friends, family, or teachers.
But that's what Do Kyungsoo wanted.
Long before he turned sixteen, Kyungsoo knew that everything he'd known wasn't meant for him. He no longer wanted to play it safe, no longer wished for a massive jumble of letters and numbers flowing on a page, no longer dreamed about a life spent with his nose glued to a book. The day after the society-wide aptitude test was taken, he knew. With his heart pounding, knees buckling, and legs barely holding him up, he made his way over to the circle of five metal bowls and cut his hand, allowing the blood to drip down into the bowl.
A gasp ran through the Erudite faction.
The lit coals sizzled, saying what he couldn't.
Foreword
/awkward laughter/
As some of you may or may not be aware, I'm currently writing two other fanfics. ( I'm not sure when or where either will end. ) The next few months are extremely busy for me. While I'm familiar with the series, having read the first two books and on my way to finishing the third, writing takes time no matter what. Time I don't have currently. I'm finishing up my senior year in high school, but if you're willing to wait a few weeks, I'll try to write well enough so that you find it worth the wait.
Thank you~ ^^
