Chapter 3;

Until You Take Me

C h a p t e r 3 ;

As Baekhyun woke up the next morning, he couldn't remember the dream he just had. Small bits and fragments slowly fading from his memory until he was left with nothing except the scene last night.

Blushing, he buried his head into the duvet, cocooning himself in it until his flustered face regained it's normal pale color.

Before the boy decided it was time to get up a knock was heard at the door. "Come downstairs, Kyungsoo made you breakfast. Get down there before it gets cold."

It was Chanyeol. His statement didn't come off as rude or irritated but it sounded forced almost. Baekhyun couldn't give a response to show that he was awake and heard what the tall man said because he was already gone.

Baekhyun rubbed the sleep away from his eyes and unwrapped himself of his covers. He made his way down the two flights of stairs stretching along the way.

"Good morning." He yawned when he sensed the presence of others as he rounded the corner to the kitchen.

"Good morning Baekhyun." Kyungsoo greeted, walking over to the table to set a plate of food down.

"Thank you." Baekhyun looked down at his plate and was suprised of the contents- perfectly yellow eggs, fresh bread, and slices of meat with some fruits on the side.

"I hope you don't mind that I used the fruits I found in your bag." Kyungsoo sat down next to him, eager to see him eat his food.

"Not at all. This is amazing Kyungsoo, thank you." The boy gave him a smile and a nod, so he started eating. It somehow tasted better than dinner last night- something he didn't think was possible.

When he finished, Baekhyun offered to wash his plate but Kyungsoo didn't seem like he was having it. "Oh no. You're our guest for as long as you stay. I insist on cleaning you're dishes." He took the plate from Baekhyun not giving him a chance to argue or even say thank you.

"Hello all!" Luhan entered the kitchen walking over to Baekhyun, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. "How did you sleep?"

Baekhyun couldn't say that he stayed up longer than he wanted because of a certain hallmate. His words leaving such an impact on him that he couldn't sleep. No he couldn't say that. "Better than ever." It was comfortable after all.

"Glad to know." He leaned down closer to whisper to the boy. "And did you forget I can read your mind in one night?" Luhan laughed when he saw blush spread across his small friends face.

Whats the point of him asking if he's just going to my mind in the end?

The three ended up in the living room having random conversations when the front door opened. "Im back guys!" Jongin's voice ranged through the house as he entered the home with a bloody animal- it looked as if it was a bull- slung over his shoulder.

"Dammit Jongin you're tracking blood everywhere! I just cleaned that floor!" Kyungsoo speed over to hit the younger on the head.

"Aish it's not my fault the damn thing put up a fight." Jongin put the deceased creature on the table, "And what about me? I got a few scratches myself."

"They've healed already you have no evidence." Luhan sat on the table, twiddling with the animals horns.

Shaking his head, Kyungsoo looked to Jongin, "You're cleaning this up." Then walked away.

The boy pouted as he sat down, grabbing a leg and turning to Luhan who was already draining a leg himself, "How's the human?"

Luhan smirked, "Just fine."

The smell of the blood in the house was too strong so Baekhyun found his way to the garden. He thinks it's the best part of the house even if he's only been here for a day.

As he opened the door he didn't expect someone else to be in the garden as well, especially the man that sleeps across from him.

Chanyeol turned his head towards Baekhyun upon hearing the door open.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were in here. I'll come back later-"

"It's fine. You don't have to go because of me." Chanyeol face forward again, watching the snow fall through the window at the top of the steps.

Baekhyun nodded as he closed the door behind him. He slowly walked towards the steps- not really thinking about it, he just walked- taking in the scenery of the garden. Eventually he made it up the steps and was standing next to Chanyeol. Baekhyun, realizing where his mindless gliding got him.

The taller had glanced over at the boy for a moment before speaking. "About last night," he started, making Baekhyun stiffen in his spot even more. "I didn't mean what I said. Well, I meant it but- before you went to bed last night, Luhan told me what you were planning on doing and the consequences of that action. He thought if I said something to you then you might change your mind." Baekhyun turned his gaze to Chanyeol, completely focused on him.

"Which I thought was unlikely considering that you've barely known me for less than a night. Anyway, I just wanted to apologize if I scared you or anything and I'm sorry for yelling at you."

Baekhyun threw both of his hands in front of him, "I-it's okay, really. You were probably right anyway."

"About what?"

"That I would die before I could even make it to the village." Baekhyun mumbled- but loud enough that the other could hear him- looking down at his hands. "So...thank you."

When he raised his head again, he was met with a smile. Baekhyun felt as if it was necessary for him to gape at the sight, he never thought of Chanyeol with a smile- mainly because of the distant and closed off aura he gave off yesterday.

That smile, Baekhyun thought, it's so endearing.

Lost in his thoughts, Baekhyun unconsciously took a few steps forward and for an unknown reason Chanyeol did the same until they were both inches apart.

Baekhyun felt the others ice cold hands snake up to his cheek, caressing it. The vampires charlotte red eyes pouring into his own. Slowly, he lost sight of them as the taller leaned forward, closing his eyes.

Baekhyun could feel his body getting colder as Chanyeol got closer to him. His mind was somewhere else far away from what they were doing- or about to do. Baekhyun wasn't giving himself a chance to think if he wanted this or not. Life wasn't giving either of them a chance as Kyungsoo's voice ranged through the garden room just before they could.

"Chanyeol! We have a guest!"

The two pulled apart quickly at the interruption. Neither uttering a word, letting their eyes speak for them. They stayed silent until Chanyeol remember why Kyungsoo called for him. He speed out of the garden and up to the front door, leaving a gust of wind and Baekhyun alone with his thoughts.

"Where is he? I need to see him."

"I told you to wait for a moment."

"Couldn't we have just let her find him?"

"No Jongin."

"Thank you Kai. Can I-"

"What are you doing here?" Chanyeol asked the guest as he entered the living room.

"I'm looking for Baekhyun."

Chanyeol thought before he asked any further, thinking back to the night before. "I knew that cloak was familiar. I didn't know he was your friend Soonkyu."

"Yes and I really need to speak to him." The girl walked over to the nearest chair and plopped down on it.

"He'll be up shortly." Chanyeol reassured her. He look to Luhan, with a concerned look on his face. The other knew what he was asking, no telekinesis needed. All he did was shake his head. This made Chanyeol only think of the worst.

Just then, Baekhyun appeared from the back hall that lead to the garden. Soonkyu jumped up and ran over to him, pulling him into a tight embrace. "I was so worried about you. After I couldn't find you at the village, I panicked-"

"So you came to a house of vampires to look for me?" Baekhyun was utterly confused. Why would she think of me being here? At least still alive.

Soonkyu grew nervous, "Well...I- you-"

"Just tell him already." Chanyeol spoke up, "He's bound to find out eventually."

Baekhyun looked between his friend and the vampire, "Tell me what?"

"I'm sorry Baek." She whispered, lowering her head to fight the tears. When she held her head back up, her iris' were pure red.

Baekhyun gasp, pulling himself away form the girl. "How are you-"

"Im sorry you had to find out this way. I didn't want you to know." She tried reaching her hand out to him but he stepped back. "I was afraid you'd tell someone. Our identity in the villages are suppose to be kept a secret."

Our? "What do you mean our?"

Soonkyu looked back at Chanyeol over her shoulder, when he gave her a nod she turned back forward. "A few years ago, I, among others, was chosen to be turned in order to protect the villages."

"Ever couple of years a new person is picked while the recent one runs away to avoid any suspicion. Ever village has a vampire." She whisperd, hanging her head again, "We...feed on the people within our gates to keep you from wondering out of our range-"

"How does that help us in anyway!?"

"It keeps you scared!" She yelled, "If you're too scared to even set foot out of the gates, afraid to die, then you won't leave to a place where we can't protect you, where there are others who aren't so nice."

"You," Baekhyun started backing away more, "You killed all of those people. The same people that gave away their food for you!? The people that cared for you and always kept you safe-"

"I had no other choice!" Soonkyu stopped him, blood running down her face as she cried. "How do you think I feel. Do you honestly think I enjoy doing this? Years of having to pick and saluter the people that I loved since I was a child. I didn't want this but I had to. I have a responsibility."

Baekhyun had tears streaming silently down his cheeks. As he thought more, he cried harder. Eventually he thought of everyone he had lost, including his mother.

His eyes widened, "You," he pointed to the girl, "killed my mother." Baekhyun's voice was barely above a whisper as it cracked from biting back tears.

"Baek please-"

"All she had ever done was treat like her own child, and you murder her."

"I didn't have a choice-"

"What happened that you didn't have a choice not to kill her!?"

Soonkyu's body shook, the blood wouldn't stop falling, "Chanyeol had all of us gathered deep in the forest that night. I couldn't help that she wondered too far from the gates. And then she saw us- she saw me. She screamed, running back to village to tell everyone. He told me that she was my responsibility. I had to." She whispered. The girl tried to reach out in an attempt to hold the boy but he rejected her.

"Don't touch me." He cried, "Stay away from me." Baekhyun turned and ran up the stairs to his room.

Soonkyu, wiping the red streaks her face, turned around to the other four in the room. "I guess it's a bad time to tell him his father died." She shook her head, "Another person on the list of his family I'm responsible for killing."

Kyungsoo went over to her, hugging the girl as she wanted to cry more.

After a while, she calmed down. "I brought his things. I didn't think he'd want to go back."

Chanyeol walked over to the girl, putting a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry."

She didn't look at him as she shrugged him off, "No you're not. You never are." Soonkyu then went outside to bring in Baekhyun's belonging, Jongin going along to help her.

"Would you go and check on him, I'm sure he hates me too." Chanyeol asked Kyungsoo and Luhan. The two nodded, proceeding upstairs. When he was alone, Chanyeol can only think, what if he was the one that killed Baekhyun's mother instead, like he knew he should've.

When Kyungsoo and Luhan arrived to Baekhyun's room, the boy was curled in his duvet, letting out soft whimpers showing that he wasn't crying as much.

The two stepped further into the room to stand on either sides of the bed not sure which side Baekhyun was facing.

"Leave me alone." The boy groaned at them.

"I think you've been alone long enough." Luhan picked up the bundle of sheets and held what was inside close to him. "It's okay. You don't have to be alone anymore." He whispered.

Eventually Baekhyun wrapped his arms around the older. Even though his body was ice cold, his heart swelled with warmth. A type of warmth he hadn't felt in a long time.

Luhan could've asked him so many questions but he didn't. He didn't read through his mind because he already knew what pain he was going through. The feeling of betrayal, knowing the truth of a built up lie, having it all crumble down on top of you. All Luhan wanted then was for someone to hold him and tell him it will all be okay, and that's what he's going to do now.

The few hours they were with Baekhyun were spent having small conversations to keep him from crying and possibly get a smile out of him so they know he's okay.

"Do you want me to make you lunch?" Kyungsoo, noticing the time, asked as he sat next to Baekhyun, Luhan laid across their legs.

"No thank you. I don't really have an appetite right now."

"Well I'm hungry." Luhan rolled off of their legs and onto the floor, standing up, "I think it's your turn Kyungsoo. I want lunch as big as a horse."

"I'll give you a horse sized lip." Kyungsoo got up, turning to pat Baekhyun's shoulder, "Call me if you need anything."

Giving a nod, Baekhyun watched the two walk out of the room and close the door. He let out a sigh and collapsed back unto the bed. This is an overwhelming day.

Baekhyun took this silent moment to rest until he felt like eating- or when he knew Soonkyu had left.

Another hour and a half later, a knock was heard as the door. "Baekhyun? Are you awake?"

Hearing Chanyeol's voice on the other side of the door, Baekhyun couldn't help but tense up. He didn't responed either. Chanyeol continued to knock and call out to him. Baekhyun had a feeling Chanyeol knew he was awake by now or he would've left, he just wouldn't answer. Baekhyun took a breath, sighing, he pushed the sheets off of him. Slowly making his way off of the bed and to the door. He stared at the doorknob, still contemplating on whether or not he wanted to talk to Chanyeol yet. He was still hurt. He felt betrayed. Not just at Soonkyun, but at Chanyeol also. He hadn't known him for more than a day but Baekhyun still felt as if he was stabbed in the back and lied to by two people. Lost in his thoughts, Baekhyun hadn't noticed the lack of sound on the other side of the door. He would've thought Chanyeol had left if not for the shadow showing at his feet.

"I just wanted to say how sorry I am. You shouldn't have found out this way and it's all my fault." Baekhyun heard him give a faint sigh, "It's been my fault from the very beginning. If I hadn't told her to do it and done it myself....you would still have you're family and home....and you're best friend."

Baekhyun took hold of the doorknob, steadily cracking the door open to peer at Chanyeol's face. He studied him, the look of worry in his brown eyes, the concern etched in his face, the overall sorrowful aura around him. Baehyun had thought about it and realized that, even though he's depressed about the entire situation, he knew he wouldn't be able to stay mad at Chanyeol nor Soonkyu for long. He just wasn't that type of person.

Baekhyun walked back to his bed, leaving the door open for the latter to come in. He wouldn't look at Chanyeol so he opted with watching his hands fiddle with the strings that stuck out of his sheets. At the sound the door closing, footsteps drawing closer, and a slight shift in the bed, the boy tensed again.

"Are you okay?" The deep voice resonated throughout the silent room, sending a shiver down the others spine.

Baekhyun scoffed, thinking about how long he laid in bed crying, "Define 'okay'."

Chanyeol didn't respond right away, he didn't know any other words to say at this point. He didn't even think Baekhyun would let him in once he saw his face. "I'm sorry."

"I know."

Silence engulfed them again, creating an awkward atmosphere between the two until Chanyeol finally spoke, "It wasn't my place to say anything. I didn't think my actions would cause someone like you so much pain."

"My mother would've been killed either way- by you, Soonkyu, or someone else- that night. My father would've still blamed me for her death, he would've still become a drunk and married that awful women," Baekhyun fought the tears in his eyes from falling again but it was hard, "He would've still tried to kill me that night, Soonkyu would've still hit him with that pipe, I would still be hear, crying in this bed. The only thing that would be different is that you wouldn't be sitting here because I would've never wanted to see your face again....just like Soonkyu."

Baekhyun was tired of fighting his emotions and let the tears fall from his eyes without an attempt to wipe them away. He also gave up on his anger and let Chanyeol hold him in his arms.

After a while, silence had filled room save for the quiet sniffles from the smaller. Baekhyun felt his entire world crumble at his feet. His life was forever broken and could never be fixed. His family is destroyed, all he has left is himself.

"Chanyeol." He called between hiccups.

"What is it?" The latter grew anxious at the pause the other took. When he finally got a response, he almost couldn't believe his ears.

Baekhyun pulled back far enough to look Chanyeol in his eyes but to still be in his embrace. The tears and mourn were gone, his face solemn and his words laced with confidence apart from his recent rueful tone.

"Will you kill me?"
