Black Knight
Summer Night's Dream‘You heard me loud and clear. Walk down Myeongdong, hand in hand, with me at this very moment.’ She closed her eyes anticipating for his response.
1…2…3…
‘Shin Hye ah, that’s the busiest street in all of Seoul…let’s be resonnable here…’
Shin Hye’s hearing went blank, she couldn’t hear anything audible coming out of his mouth all she could see was his mouth moving and hands moving towards her body. Slowly, the familiar sound of her heart shattering like a glass jar being dropped onto a hard cold floor was echoing though her silent mind.
Her right hand reached for the door handle, wrapping tightly around it like it was gripping for its dear life. She pressed her eyelids tightly shut, letting her heart admit defeat to her brain for the last time.
1…2…3…breathe…
Click
Her right hand harshly pulled on the door handle, releasing the door from it’s locked stage.
Swish
The door immediately swung wide open, inviting a gust of cold air into the stuffy, hot car.
click click
Her right foot hit the ground, her left foot immediately following suit.
click click
She swung her oversized handbag over her shoulder in one quick throw, her feet began to move in big strides. Right, left, right, left.
Bam
Her right hand pushed his door shut with all her pent up anger causing the car to shake from its impact.
She had enough of excuses. She had enough of him playing the victim card when the whole world knows it was the other way around. Last but not least, she had enough of his lies.
Min Ho was breathing heavily, eyes wide open trying to register what just happened. She was gone, she didn’t listen to his response. She just got up and disappeared in thin air ignoring his existence. He pushed the door open with all his weight, rushed out of his car and picked up his feet running after her like a policeman hot on the tails of a criminal.
‘Shin Hye! Hajima!’ he yelled at the top of his lungs as he tried to catch up to her.
‘Park Shin Hye! Hajima!!!’ he wailed as she entered a halted taxi and closed the door shut.
How can she just get up and leave? How can she not hear me out? How can she not be reasonable? How can she just leave me out in the cold?!
He dashed back to his car, sprinting 200 miles per hour, not wanting to lose anymore time. He needed to catch up to taxi and stop her from leaving him. He needed to tell her the truth and set things right. He needed her by his side. He needed her love.
He hastily his car’s engine, put it into drive and stepped on the accelerator speeding through the busy afternoon Seoul traffic trying to locate the grey Hyundai taxi carrying the love of his life.
Why is there so much traffic at 6pm? Don’t these people have work? Shouldn’t they be at the office and not on the road driving? Aish…why are there so many grey Hyundai taxis?! Which one am I suppose to follow? Where could she go? Think Lee Min Ho…think pabo! She only brought a bag with her, it looked pretty empty since it sat flat on her lap. She can’t run too far since she doesn’t have a change of clothes, where could she go?....Home! Yes, home! She went back home! I just need to get off of this ramp and head back to her house. I’ll find her there and make things right.
The grey Hyundai taxi pulled up to the sidewalk, the driver looked into the rearview mirror to make sure she was fine. She entered his car abruptly as he was eating his dinner in his car, he told her he was on her break and to take another taxi. He looked up through the window and caught Min Ho running after her, she pleaded him to take her. His heart broke the minute he looked into her eyes, he nodded and drove off tossing his dinner aside. He asked her where she wanted to go and she replied with one word, anywhere. He drove aimlessly for 20 minutes until she gave him the address of her final destination.
He was amazed at how well composed she was. He’s seen many women break up with their boyfriends and husbands, his backseat has been subject to many tears and broken hearts. But through their 40 minute drive, she didn’t sob or shed one drop of tear. She just looked out of her window in silence.
‘Miss we’re here 38,000 won please’
‘Thank you and keep the change’ Shin Hye handed him three 20,000 won bills and walked out of the car.
As she approached the building, he was leaning on his car like he had been waiting for her to appear.
**************
He pulled up across from her villa, he got out and dialed her number on his phone. He cursed when the call went to voicemail after a few rings. He tapped his phone impatiently and dialed again, hoping to get through on the second try...failure. But even after 10 attempts, she didn’t pick up. His feet began to impatiently fidget as he decided to walk up to her villa.
As he approached the door blocking him entry to finding her to talk some sense into her, he took in a deep inhale preparing himself for the war that will happen any moment after he rings the bell. His right fore finger reached for the white button and gently pushed on it, awakening the lion from its sleep.
Silence
Min Ho checked his watch, it’s been 1 minute. He began to silent debate if he should ring the doorbell again. His finger beat his mind to the answer, it pushed harder this time on the button. No answer. He began to furiously push the doorbell, hoping that the annoying sound would get her to come out and face him.
‘Who is it?’ a male’s voice thundered through the door.
‘Abeonim, it’s me Min Ho! Is Shin Hye home? I want to talk to her.’ he rattled off not knowing if he would have another chance to talk to her again.
‘Hold on. Step away from the door, I’m opening it now’
‘Abeonim, thank you!’ Min Ho bowed and began to take off his shoes ready to barge into her villa to find her to have a honest conversation.
‘Min Ho ssi, hold on for one minute’ Shin Hye’s appa walked through the open door and firmly closed the door behind him.
Min Ho saw the word anger written all over her appa’s eyes, he knew he was in for a rough ride.
‘Min Ho ssi, first don’t call me abeonim, second she is not home and third you have nothing left to say to her’ her appa crossed his arms and blocked Min Ho’s attempt to enter his villa without his permission.
‘Abeonim, I’m sorry. I know I screwed up, but just hear me out. I’m hear to make things right and turn things back in time.’ Min Ho bowed to show his sincerity.
‘Min Ho ssi, it’s ajusshi…’
‘Deh, ajusshi, please I know she’s in there. She won’t pick up my calls. I just need to talk to her and tell her what happened so that we can work on this together. Please can you please let me see her?’ Min Ho pleaded with all his heart in hopes that his sincerity would touch her appa’s heart.
‘Don’t you think it’s a little too late for that
