Summary: Flowers speak all the words Baekhyun cannot when his body fails him.

There was something about the way Baekhyun laughed that winter, guffaws dying down to mere chuckles, chuckles to smiles, smiles to almost nothing. Kyungsoo picked hollies and decked the windows with the leaves. “Hope”, he said, even though Baekhyun told him to stop.

They spoke through flowers, through floriography that winter. Azaleas from Baekhyun to Kyungsoo - “take care of yourself for me” - after a staggering treatment one day at the hospital. Red salvias for “forever mine” as Baekhyun lost another fifteen pounds. After winter came spring, and even after the salvias had wilted, Kyungsoo’s words never faded.

“Try to push me away, Baekhyun. I’m staying right here.”

Baekhyun’s arms were too weak to protest anyway.

Once spring rolled around, the days started to melt together without clear indication of night and day. Time was fluid, ever-flowing, never stopping. Flowers bloomed in the garden outside, and although he wasn’t allowed, Baekhyun snuck out of his room at night to touch the petals as a silent goodbye.

On the last day of spring, Kyungsoo woke up to find two flowers laid in place of Baekhyun’s body. A red chrysanthemum and a white clover - a delicate farewell.
