Shedding Light on the Situation

Control

Chanyeol nodded his head as he listened to his friend give him grief for disappearing on him the other day. The two sat next to each other around a grill where they were cooking pieces of pork meat.

“If it was such an emergency you should have texted me telling me so! How do you think I felt when I rely to find you gone?” Jongin asked before shoving part of the apology meal Chanyeol had bought him to make up for the abandonment.

“How many times do I have to say sorry before you forgive me?” he asked his friend with the saddest puppy eyes he could muster.

Jongin looked at him for a good minute before going back to his food, “You’re lucky this food is so good.”

He couldn’t help but laugh at his friend letting the word cute slip from his mouth before attempting to playfully pinch Jong In’s cheeks. The two played around going back and forth until the sound of Chanyeol’s phone interrupted them. He pulled the phone from his pocket feeling the watching eyes of his friend trying to sneak a peek at the sender of the message. Chanyeol knew who it was instantly and got up to grab his stuff. Jongin slumped in his seat knowing that he was about to be abandoned once again.

“Sorry I forgot I have to meet someone really soon. You can finish up the meal, I’ll text you later!” he apologized with a quick bow before heading out the door.

Jongin watched him go, placing another piece of meat into his mouth. He knew something was up with his friend, but he had no idea what he was trying to keep secret. He let out a sigh as he mumbled to himself he’d rather be at home in bed than be alone eating good food. As he reached out for another piece a meat his world went black, the boy disappearing from the restaurant in a blink of an eye.

Chanyeol reached the house, letting himself in and heading down into the basement. Luhan and Sehun were waiting for him, but the latter was busy playing on his phone instead of paying any attention to the newly arrived guest.

“Are you guys brothers or something?” Chanyeol questioned wondering why the two were always together.

“We get that a lot but no. He just chooses to stay here instead of going home,” Luhan explained.

“How can you freeload at a younger friend’s house? Don’t your parents worry about you?” Chanyeol questioned Sehun.

“Actually…I’m older than him by several years,” Luhan shyly admitted.

“I just graduated from high school. My parents also don’t think much about me since they kicked me out after trashing the place with my uncontrollable wind,” Sehun added on without breaking his attention from his phone.

Chanyeol immediately felt bad having heard about the younger man’s situation. To try and change the awkward situation he changed his attention back to Luhan.

“If you’re older than him does that mean you’re my age or older?” he asked.

“I’m twenty three,” Luhan answered.

“I’m twenty one so I guess I can call you a hyung then,” Chanyeol laughed awkwardly as Sehun glanced up from his phone screen to eye him. “I really thought you were younger than both of us, you must have good genes to look so young and youthful.”

“Will you stop flirting with him and work on controlling your flame instead,” Sehun loudly interjected as he shifted in his seat with his eyes still glued to his screen.

The taller man was thrown off by the younger man’s comment, frantically shaking his head and waving his hands to deny the flirting. Luhan just shook his head before taking Chanyeol’s hand in his and leading him off to help train him.

“He’s right let’s get to practicing your control,” he smiled sweetly to Chanyeol.

Sehun glanced up from his phone screen to see their hands together which made him roll his eyes in response. Meanwhile the two worked together in trying to get Chanyeol to focus the size of his flame in his hand. He had a hard time trying to control the size of the flame, losing some control of it once it reached a certain size. Thankfully Luhan used his own powers to contain Chanyeol’s flame within an invisible barrier he created.

“This is harder than I thought,” Chanyeol groaned as he extinguished the fire in his hand.

“Yeah, I think those who have a nature related power must have it the toughest. To control a part of nature can’t be easy…since mine is all about controlling my mind I think I got the better deal in all of this. My power won’t hurt me so easily like yours or Se Hun’s would,” Luhan confessed as he glanced back to his frozen friend.

“If you don’t mind me asking…how did it happen?” he hesitantly asked the older man.

“He and I were out having lunch when I suddenly heard a frantic voice in my head. I knew something wasn’t right and my feet took off in the direction I heard the voice. Minseok followed after me and I was led to a park where I found Sehun crouched on the ground with a whirlwind around him. His powers had awakened and he was emotional at the time so his wind went berserk and he sought refuge at the empty park,” Luhan explained before he was interrupted by Sehun.

“I had gotten into a fight with my parents and the next thing I knew the world started spinning and my parents were flung away and the apartment became a mess. I ran as far and as fast I could after that,” he interjected his information.

“Since he was so freaked out Minseok approached him carefully to try and calm him down. Of course since we were strangers he wasn’t keen on the idea of us approaching him. We tried to tell him that we knew what he was going through, but he lashed out with his wind. Minseok used his own powers to create a shield of ice to deflect the wind which definitely got Sehun’s attention. I approached him while he was distracted by the ice in hopes of using a barrier to trap his winds, but I scared him when I got too close and he shot a powerful gust my way,” Luhan paused momentarily as the scene came back to him.

“His friend launched himself to block the gust from hurting Luhan, but I ended up tossing them both back several feet,” Sehun finished for him as he knew the rest would only make Luhan upset. “Minseok was the first to get up and he checked to make sure Luhan was ok before he came back at me. He went from this meek looking kid to serious in the blink of an eye and I actually feared what he was going to do to me. I sent more wind his way and he blocked it all with these ice shields he created with a snap of his fingers as he advanced towards me. As he got closer the wind around me naturally became stronger as I feared for my life, but he just kept coming closer fighting it.”

“As he did that I snuck up behind him and using a barrier around myself I jumped into the wind to tackle Sehun,” Luhan finally spoke up again, “I hugged him tightly because I knew it would calm him down or at least hopefully throw him off enough to kill the wind. The wind died off as he calmed down and I felt so bad because he actually cried.”

“I did not.”

“You did.”

“I don’t cry.”

“Anyways, I held him till he was back to a calm state of mind but then I noticed that Minseok was turned away from us. When I called out his name he turned around with a painful expression and I saw that his hand and part of his forearm was incased in ice. The three of us rushed back here because the ice was slowly making its way up his arm and had engulfed him up to his shoulder. We tried to break it and he tried to get it to melt like always, but it wouldn’t budge. His breathing became labored as the ice spread over his body. I stayed by his side the entire time trying to get the ice to stop but nothing worked. By the next day he was encased in that ice crystal. I know he’s still alive in there and he’s the reason why I pity you and Sehun with your powers. I don’t want to see your powers turn on you like it did to him,” Luhan continued before he took Chanyeol’s hand in his and gave it a small squeeze.

Chanyeol put on his best smile and gave Luhan’s hand a comforting squeeze, “Don’t worry! I’ll learn to control this fire of mine so we can get him out of there. I promise you.”

“Or he’ll burn the house down, better hope the next power activated is water related,” Sehun giggled at his own comment.

“Watch your back, when I learn to control this well enough you’ll wake up one day with no eyebrows!” Chanyeol barked back with a mischievous grin.

His comment wiped the smile right off Sehun’s face which went back to his usual default indifferent expression. Luhan couldn’t help but laugh at their antics, feeling like a heavy load had been lifted from his shoulders now that Chanyeol was with them. Suddenly his laughter stopped when he heard a frantic voice inside his head.

Why is this happening?! Why won’t this stop?!

“What’s wrong?” Se Hun asked when he noticed the change in Luhan.

“I hear someone’s voice…I think another power has been activated. Let’s go before we find out it’s a destructive one,” he answered before getting up and rushing to the stairs.

The other two followed after him, letting him lead the way as he followed the voice. Chanyeol wasn’t sure how it worked but he hoped they would be in time to prevent any damages.

“We’re getting closer I feel it!” Luhan told them as he continued to run at a steady pace.

Chanyeol felt his feet starting to ache as he noticed a few guys running in their direction. As they ran past them he overheard one of them telling the others that the kid was a freak. He wondered though what kid they were talking about. Then he realized who they were talking about.

The trio came to a small rest area where a young man was curled up on the ground, hands covering his eyes, as his body glowed brightly. Luhan approached slowly with Chanyeol and Sehun close behind him.

“Careful Luhan…” Sehun warned him as he averted his eyes from the bright boy.

“Are you ok?” Luhan asked the unknown man.

The young man uncovered his eyes, the glow around his body fading just a bit as he looked at the trio.

“Help me! Make it stop!” the young man cried as he got up to sit on his knees.

“Just calm yourself down and imagine the light fading away,” Luhan advised him as he put a hand over his eyes, unable to stand looking at the light any longer.

Chanyeol glanced between the young man and Luhan as they exchanged words. Within a couple minutes the sniveling boy began to calm down and the light started to die out. When it had completely faded away the trio came closer, Chanyeol reaching a hand out to the wary boy. The young man flinched at first before noticing that it was actually a helping hand. Chanyeol helped him up and gave him a hand in dusting off the dirt on his clothes. It was then he noticed the smaller man looked as though he had gotten into a fight.

“What happened to your face?” he asked with concern as he leaned in examining the damages to his face.

The boy flinched again as his hands instinctively went up to protect his face. His slender fingers shook slightly as he averted his gaze from Chanyeol.

“You poor thing…what’s your name?” Chanyeol asked in his calming deep voice.

“…Baekhyun…” he answered weakly.

They weren’t sure what had happened to him, but Chanyeol was glad they found him when they did.
