He would give anything to be freed from this ongoing cycle. If, for just one day, girls would stop crowding around him, if one of his friends stopped getting in detention, he might actually go home with energy left. He was at the top of the pyramid; the cool kid everyone wanted to be partnered with for projects. He was very intelligent and had a bright personality that no one could possibly hate. His family and friends were all very rich, so having the money for school trips was no issue either. He’d often find himself smiling in class, just listening to the rustle of the leaves outside the class. To Hakyeon, it was comforting and peaceful. That was one thing he could never want to change. Even though the breeze was cold outside, on the inside, Hakyeon’s heart was warm, alive with joy and love. That’s how he never stopped smiling even when the winter breeze came.     I closed the front door behind me, moving to the kitchen for some milk to drink. I gulped down the rest of the carton and tossed it in the bin. Mental note made to buy some more tomorrow. I hung my coat and bag on the coat rack and jumped onto the sofa, watching with joy as my little brown Maltese jumped onto my lap and my nose. I laughed, petting his fur gently. “Did you miss me, huh?” I asked him, watching him curl into a ball on my lap. I turned the tv on, flicking through the channels. Looks like the weather is affecting the signal. I sighed. The fireplace crackled in the background and I turned to look outside the window, and instead of seeing the snowflakes falling outside, I saw a dark haired boy looking in through the glass. I met his dark brown eyes. The poor kid in my class, Jung Taekwoon. What is he doing here? He looked away from me but I kept staring. I hadn’t ever noticed him so much before. He was the quiet kind of boy, the one who never really spoke to anyone. Not that he didn’t want to. I remember seeing him outside once or twice when we were children. He still watched me back then. It was strange; he was always watching me, only me, yet it didn’t make me uncomfortable. In fact, I liked that someone admired me that much to stare for so long.   Taekwoon was much different from other kids; with his jet black hair falling over his oval face, his plump lips occasionally curving into a shy smile. He was gentle and quiet, caring yet also distant. Taekwoon was simple – not as in dumb, but as in he enjoyed the smallest of things. He didn’t find enjoyment in tall skyscrapers and bright twinkling jewels, but in colourful leaves, frosted flowers and twirling vines up a wall. You could say he loved nature’s beauty. However, around his house only grew faded plants, a garden over crowded with shrivelling weeds. I knew that just speaking to the kid would only mean being thrown out into the cold. It was the one thing nobody was supposed to do. Yet it was the reason why a part of me wanted to. I could only ever look at him from afar, but he was mostly always hidden away from sight. One moment I could be staring at him, then I would look away for two seconds and he’d be gone. But I had never had the chance to notice him; he was always gone too quickly.     He was a winter wind,
