Drawing You Near Me

Together, Back In Your Arms

Red Writer's Note: Hey guys! I present you with this chapter. Unfortunately, I have to study for entrance exams in a university. Like always, I'll try to post the next chapters in the future. How is the story going? I hope you like this chapter. Tell me what you think.

It was a normal morning. Yes, it was. Kris, Tao, Xiumin, Chen, Lay, and Luhan all got up extra early today to practice the choreography of “History”, one of the songs in the first album. Although it was really cold outside because winter has arrived, each one of them managed to pull themselves off of their warm beds and left the dorm. They climbed the stairs and opened the entrance. It led to a hallway with many doors. Anyone would easily be confused for the entire building was nearly proportional but since they have been going here for a while, they know where to go. Luhan was the closest to the door, leading to their dance studio. It was their private studio for dance rehearsals. Occasionally, the group would leave the music equipment there and from what Luhan is aware of, it is still there today. His hand moved to twist the door knob when he stiffens. Looking inside the room, he sees someone dancing inside. Dancing with great fluidity, the guy continues. Luhan continued watching.

“What are you doing?” Chen’s voice is heard by Luhan, bringing him back to reality, but he doesn’t turn away.

“Huh?” Luhan absentmindedly answers, still unsure of what is going on.

“Open the door.”

“But, there’s someone in there using it. And, I think he’s dancing to our song.”

“What are you talking about? There’s no one in there. Besides, the lights are off and the music is only playing because it’s set to play once we get here. Now, open the door.”

“Yah! I’m older than you. Don’t speak like you’re older… Although, you already look older than me…” Luhan whispers the last part, unfortunately, loud enough only for the younger to hear. Immediately, Chen pouts and clings onto Xiumin, speaking incoherently. Kris and Tao were just talking as Luhan has not opened the door yet. Lay was thinking deeply, not glancing at the orange-baozi pair.

“What is the matter with–?! Why are you crying?” Xiumin asks the sobbing member. Luhan turns away from the two and cautiously opens the door. His fingers searched for the switch and he turns the lights on. He immediately recognizes the boy.

“Hey, hyung! How are you?” The youngster greets as Luhan fully enters the room. Luhan points at the boy and shouts.

“Guys! Don’t you see him? He’s the one I saw the other day.” After the other members look around the room, Luhan deciphers their facial expressions: who is he pointing at?

“I mean, come on! He’s standing right here, next to me!” Luhan groaning is frustration.

“Luhan, are you feeling okay?” Kris asks.

“Why are you asking me that? How can you not see him?”

“Look in the mirror.” Luhan moves his gaze away from the group and the boy when he saw: there was no one there. He looks from the boy to the mirror and found that he didn’t have a reflection. In a great state of confusion, Luhan slumps on the ground. The boy sits next to him at the corner of the studio as the other staffs fill in.

“Hyung, if it makes you feel better, I’m not a ghost.”

“Who are you and how did you know me?”

“I don’t remember what my name is but I remember you guys…and some others.” There came the answer of the tanned boy.

“Well, that is a predicament. What should I call you then?”

“Hm… Kai! Call me Kai.” He jumps up enthusiastically.

“That’s a unique name.”

“Luhan, It’s time to start rehearsal.” Luhan stood up and told Kai that they’ll take later.

***30 Minutes Later***

In the middle of practice, the music was stopped. The choreographer asks about the room for someone to get some refreshments. Due to the ever cold weather, no one was very willing to go. Kris asked Tao to go with him but the others say they might attract too much attention. Luhan thought this was the perfect moment to talk to Kai without getting weird glances. He raised his hand, subtly gesturing for Kai to get up. With that, they went to a near convenience store. Luhan approached who he presumed to be the owner, an old man.

“Excuse me, grandpa. May I ask what flavors the ramyun noodles do you have?” The old man turned his head.

“What? Want to know what flavors of kimchi we have?”

“Ah, no, that’s not what I mean.  I asked about ramyun.”

“What? You want some water radish soup?”

“Ah, no…” Just then, a man came in.

“Grandpa, I got this covered. Please go upstairs.”

“Ah! Byungchul! …You want me to dig a basement?”

“No, grandpa…” Byungchul calmly said.

“By the way, I’m 92 years old this year.” With that, Byungchul face palmed and the old man left.

“What can I get you?”

“Just get me some of these flavors.” Luhan handed the store keeper a short list.

“Please wait here, I’ll get them for you.” Byungchul went to the back of the store.

“So, what are you? Why is it that only I can see you?”

“I am a guardian. I don’t really remember much but all I know is that I know you guys. Anyway, can you help me find someone?”

“I don’t see why not. But, we should do it after practice today if it’s really important.”

“It’s really important!” Kai’s eyes glistened with a tint of red but then, all of a sudden, he looks off in a distance. In a minute, like before, he disappears.

“Kai, where are you?” How am I supposed to think he’s not a ghost when he does that? Also, what does he mean by a guardian, and why does it sound so familiar? Luhan shook his head and takes out his wallet, just in time for Byungchul to bring out the ramyun. Finally, he got back to the studio and handed the food to everyone present. After a few more hours of practice, they finally decided to call it a day.

Luhan collapsed, once again, on his bed and was ready to sleep. However, just then, the windows blew open and the cold wind entered. Oddly, Luhan felt comfortable. He thought it was probably because he was still warmed up from the rigorous practice, like always. Standing by the window in his pajamas, Luhan looks out to the dark sky. There were no stars visible, although it was clear.

“Where is my star?” a low voice echoed.

“Who’s there?” Luhan asked fearfully aware there was someone else in his room. He relaxes when he sees Kai’s face.

“What happened?”

“I just got attacked. How they found me, I don’t know.”

“Who? Where did it happen?”

“The Red Descendants… They were in the movie theatre.” Kai punches the floor.

“And I was this close to seeing him… those humans…”

“Who are you talking about?”

“My star… whose name I cannot remember… It was as if I am gradually coming into nonexistence… my powers are slowly leaving me. Unless I find him, I will die!” The youngster’s voice broke as he covers his face with his hands.

“Rest here tonight. We’ll see tomorrow.” Luhan led Kai to a small guest room. With a lot of questions unanswered, Luhan had a hard time sleeping but after two hours, he fell into a dreamless sleep.

***Under the Coat of Darkness***

“He has escaped!”

“We’re sorry, boss.”

“Why haven’t you told me this?”

“We thought he’ll come back to claim the body of his protector?”

“You forced it open?! Didn’t you know that if you force the guardian’s chamber open, his beast comes out instead?!” He sighs.

“Never mind, have you tracked the others?”

“No, sir, but we had indications that one other guardian in the theatre that day. But he slipped away…” their voices softened.

“We must hurry. If they debut, it will be hard to collect them. Now, go.” The man leans on his hands, staring at the sleeping body.

“Just wait. I’ll get the other guardians.” He laughs darkly.

“Welcome to PMEnt, guardians…”

***The Next Morning***

Luhan and Kai decided to check the movie theatre again. Upon arriving there, they saw a fairly short guy, pressing buttons on the movie seat selection. Kai points at him and Luhan follows his gaze. Luhan remembers him. He, with the owl eyes, was the one who came with the others and that tall guy. Luhan’s mind drifted the more he continued to think about to the young boy with the lisp. He was very good looking, in Luhan’s opinion.

“Hyung! He’s there.” Awakened by a punch on the shoulder, Luhan meet the other’s eyes. They face each other.

“Is there something you need?”

“Ah, it’s just… I remembered you that day from the building.”

Kyungsoo Thoughts

Oh, I guess he still hasn’t regained his memory, even after seeing Sehun. Ah, Luhan-hyung, it has been a while. Even after centuries, I still remember your sacrifice for your lover. If only I knew where Kai is…

“I am Do Kyungsoo. It’s nice to meet you, Luhan-hyung.”

“How did you know I am older than you?”

“It was a lucky guess.” Why does he keep looking to the side? Is he talking to someone I cannot see?

“Are you planning on watching something?” This is weird. I know hyung is the guardian of telekinesis but is he starting to lose it? Can he see ghosts now? Why does he keep moving his arm as if someone is clinging, as if trying to persuade him?

“No, not really…”

“Want to eat something then?”

“Sure.”

“Let’s go to my dorm. I’ll introduce you to my group members.”

“You’re in EXO-M?” I guess he really doesn’t remember.

“Yeah, you must be in EXO-K, then? I mean, since you know about our subgroup.”

“What a small world…”

***Time-Skip***

Luhan and Kyungsoo, along with an unseen and nagging Kai, went to EXO-M’s dorm. It was rather surprising. Turns out, everyone knew who each other was, except for Luhan only who met Kyungsoo today for the first time. Another thing that Luhan found out was the Kyungsoo is a very good cook.

“We saw each other before we came to pick you up…” was Kris’s only reply as he continued to read a magazine.

“Well, now that you know everyone… let’s go somewhere else.”

“What did you have in mind?”

“Since you’re my new best friend, I will take you to a bubble tea café!” Kyungsoo laughs.

“What’s the matter?”

“Oh, nothing… you two are so much alike!” Luhan had a blank face, unable to comprehend what Kyungsoo meant. They walked a few blocks and entered a small café. Kyungsoo smiles as he remembered who works here.

“Hyung, ask him about me!” Kai shouts at Luhan, who was taking an order.

“Kyungsoo, why don’t you sit over there? I’ll order.” Fortunately, Kai followed and sat beside Kyungsoo, leaving Luhan alone.

“Um… let’s see…”

“May I help you?”

“Ah, yes. Can I have one taro and a cup of hot chocolate?”

Thure…” That lisp… could it be? Luhan looked up to meet the eyes of the same boy he had been thinking about. The younger smiled at him.

“I’ll be back with your order later.” Winking at the older, Luhan felt that he was too cheeky and with a tint of annoyance, stomped his way to where Kyungsoo sat. He sat across, just in time to see Kai leaning towards Kyungsoo’s cheek.

“What are you doing?!” Kyungsoo’s eyes widen. Kai, whose lips were only a few centimeters away, grumbled and dropped his head on the table, although, no one but Luhan could see it.

“What? I’m not doing anything, though.”

“Oh, never mind me.” Luhan laughs nervously. Seeing Kai with pleading eyes, he sighs.

“So, did you lose something important?”

“Well, if you’re asking about my phone, I’m sure I still have it…” Kyungsoo stares warily.

“Forget it.” Luhan raises his hands, giving up.

“Oh, I have to go, hyung. It was nice to meet the others again.”

“Oh, you’re leaving? But I ordered some hot chocolate for you…”

“Ok, I’ll wait for a few minutes.”

“So what are you doing for the holidays? Do you have any special someone to spend it with?” Kyungsoo shook his head, his eyes were almost empty.

“No one...”

“You can spend it with me and the other!” Luhan offers since he didn’t like the look on his new friend’s face.

Just then, the bubble tea and chocolate was placed on the table. Luhan looks up.

“Here you go.”

“Um… thanks.” Luhan stuttered as he handed the money to the boy. All of a sudden, the boy holds Luhan’s hand and kisses it.

“See you later, princess.” With a small smirk on his face, the boy left. Like a deer in headlights, Luhan stared off, not noticing the similar chuckles coming out of Kai and Kyungsoo. In a second, Luhan’s eyes constricted.

“Princess…who are you calling Princess?!” Kyungsoo laughed harder. Oh, Sehun-ah, I didn’t think you would actually do that. Chanyeol used that on Baekhyun, but knowing Luhan, it won’t work on him.

“Who does he think he is?! Cheeky brat! Why are you laughing?” By now, Kyungsoo’s face has lightened up and Luhan just let it pass.

“Ok, I have to leave now, ok?” With that, Kyungsoo left with a smile on his face and a newly found hope to keep looking for his star.

***That evening***

Luhan just finished washing up and stood in front of a portrait of Kai. Apparently, when they got home to Luhan’s apartment, Kai wanted him to draw a portrait and show it to Kyungsoo. Clearly, he wasn’t going to get any sleep if he doesn’t, so he finished it half an hour ago. He sat back on the chair, turned to an empty canvas, and pick up his charcoal. All he thought about was the arrogant boy from the café. As if on reflex, his hands started moving around the canvas and he sketches a person, all the while coloring it in. In the unfinished piece, a tall person stood. He was wearing white robes, making his brown hair stand out. The wind around him was restless as indicated by the movement of the sand from the desert. His eyes were colored blue. Looking at his masterpiece, Luhan yawned and closed the lights.

At the struck of midnight, the window slightly slid open. A soft wind cooed at Luhan’s ears and then moved to the painting. It left in a matter of seconds, dissipating, as if it was never there. The window closed and everything was as it was before, except… there, in one of Luhan’s empty canvases, appeared a message. It looks as if it was written with great care using a fountain pen.

Love is like breathing… I can’t stop, I won’t stop… I love you, Luhan.
