Chapter 1
Be The Light“_______!” my mom called as I was fixing my mascara.
“Neh eomma?” I answered.
“Come down for breakfast before you’re late for school!” my mom croaked.
“Araso! I’m coming!” I replied. I fixed my school’s uniform skirt and pulled the sleeves’of the blazer down to cover my recently cut scars just from the night before. I looked at myself in the mirror, put on my glasses, and practiced my fake smile before I went to my mom. I quickly grabbed my backpack before going downstairs. Once I reached the kitchen I stopped at the wall and saw my mom reading a newspaper. I sighed as the thoughts of my dad ran through my head. My dad had died because of cancer when I was just nine years old. We were both really depressed for a couple of months. Growing up I was bullied for not having a father, and even up until now I’m still bullied for the same reason. I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a sniffle. I looked up to my mom and saw that her eyes’ were puffy from crying all night again. I walked over to her and grabbed a waffle from the plate on the table. I glanced at my mom and slowly took a bite of the waffle. “Eomma I’m going to get going.” She hummed in agreement. I pecked her cheek quickly and shuffled to the door. I slipped on my shoes’ and glanced back at my mom. I took a deep breath and held on tightly to the straps of my backpack. I opened the door and walked to school.
