Epilogue: It’s all about Marriage

Jessica Jung, a fair young girl age of sixteen, she was one of a kind girl who only wanted to be free, to see the world, to travel, and to find adventure. But her mother always scolds her to be proper, to be quiet, and instead become a fine lady to find a fine husband. The Jung family is known to be one of the richest and known families besides the Kwons, the Hwangs, and the Kims. The Jung owns the mining industry that produces fine jewelries and precious gems, their jewelry line is called StoneHenge.

"I don't want to get married..." Jessica mumbled as she stares at a picture of another young lady that she stuck in between the pages of her book. "Fany...How can I say this?? But...I'm straight...but why do I feel so weird about you..."

“Jessica!” A woman who looked like Jessica came inside the room. She was wearing a purple day gown. Ruffles flew beautifully over her ball gown and she looked like an older version of Jessica. “Look at you… you are not dressed! Will you behave like a lady…Shame on you, and put that book down, you’ve been reading the whole afternoon.”

Jessica got startled. She immediately closed the book that she was reading or staring along with Tiffany's picture; she stood up and straightened her arms to her sides. Her mother, Mrs. Jane Jung went to get the pieces of Jessica’s dress that lay everywhere on the bed. “Rose!! Rose!!” The woman shouted. “ROOOSEEE!!!”

“Coming, Madame…” A woman said. She came in wearing a black long dress and white apron, she was the Jung Family’s head maids.

“Help me dress this hard headed lady…TSK!” Mrs. Jane said.

Rose nodded. She grabbed the corsets, the petticoat, lacy blouse, and the layered skirt. Jessica hated the clothes. It was tight, itchy, uptight, hot, and very stiff.

“If you continue to be like this Jessica, you won’t find a fine husband that would suit you.” Her mother said as she tightens the lace of Jessica’s corset. “And what’s this that you are reading?”

“Omma, it’s Phantom of the Opera…”

“Psshh…classics but I told you not to read books that are not of sense…that is why your head is full of none sense…”

Jessica who was holding on to her bed’s foot rail gasp as her mom tightens the corset. “I do not plan to get married mother…and my head is full of meaningful dreams.”

“You are sixteen…after two years in Soshified you will be off for marriage…what else are you planning to do? Go around the world? Travel? Jessica…you’re a lady…”

“ERGH!!! I want to go with daddy on his business trips…” Jessica grunted as the maid slips in the petticoat and the skirt. “I don’t want to get married, I’m not ready!!!”

“JESSICA!! Don’t act like a child! A proper lady doesn’t shout…” Jane slid the lacy blouse over Jessica and ribboned it. “There… you look perfect. Now let’s go for an afternoon walk before school starts tomorrow.”

“Omma…I don’t like this…” Jessica sighed.

Jane raised her brow. “Palli palli…get yourself together and go down when you’re done…” she said as she and Rose went out of the room. Jessica sat helplessly over the edge of her bed. She felt helpless for she doesn’t want to get married or worst if she doesn’t fine a perfect husband, she’ll be set on an arrange marriage.

I don't have to do this...right?? Besides...my heart belongs to someone else...I can't just be like this...Is it so wrong? But if my mother finds out...she won't be happy... Aish...Why is my life like this?!?! Can't I love on my own?? My heart is longing for only one person and it seems so wrong...

“Jessica unnie??”

“Neh??”

A girl age fourteen came in; she was wearing a pink day dress holding her white hat with flower ornaments on it. She was like a carbon copy of Jessica except a baby version. She has icy glares and beautiful eyes like Jessica, jaws shaped like a perfect heart, pearly ominous skin.

“Krystal…” Jessica said lifelessly.

“I heard mom got irritated again…”

Jessica smiled and snorted. “Pshh…that old woman…she’s cranky and no fun…”

Krystal giggled. “I know what you mean…”

“Listen Krystal-“

“Wait unnie…I know in two years you’re going to get married and…I just want you to know that…isn’t it time to serious up a little? I know you don’t want to get married, but it’s as if we have a choice…”

“I have a choice…I’ll go elsewhere and look for something useful to do…Maybe write a book, be a performer, a theater actress, be a teacher, a doctor, a nurse, or what…”

“Unnie…it’s not proper for women to-“

“GAWD! Why are women being degraded?! This is so unfair. I wished I was born as a man…I don’t want to get married, have kids, raise them with all my life, and die without even doing the things I want…my dreams are to travel and go around the world…I can’t do that when I tie the knot…”

“I understand…but unnie…it will be hard for mom and dad…and the reason why we’re going out today is to look for your wedding dress…we’re meeting mom’s friends too and also Tiffany unnie, Yuri unnie, and so on unnies… they’re picking out wedding dresses too before school starts tomorrow…”

“Krystal…I don’t want to do this…”

“We have no choice…I too don’t want but in four years of time… it’s my turn too…and us being a Jung is so pressuring, we need to uphold our family’s name…eyes are watching us.”

“It’s a curse being a Jung…”

“Ms. Jessica, Ms. Krystal, the carriage awaits below…” A voice from the door said.

“This is not happening to me…” Jessica grunted.

~Madame Charlotte’s Dress Shop, since 1854~

“Ylanna!” Jane happily greeted to a woman who was same as her age. She looked like an older version of Yuri.

“Okay…So the mothers are here…” Jessica growled in a whisper.

Krystal was holding onto her sister’s hand as they stood by the manikins of day dresses and gowns.

“Jane. Oh my my. How time flies…Let’s go to the wedding dresses section, Theresa and Yvanna are there.”

The mothers went on but Jessica and Krystal stood near the entrance of the shop. Just a moment so soon a lady appeared through the archway of the shop, she came from the wedding dress section and she looked like she was looking for someone.

“Jessica my baby!!” A girl happily said as she hugs the lady. She was wearing a pink flowy day dress, puffy sleeves, and ruffles over the chest. Her eye smile reflects how happy she was to see Jessica.

“Awe...sweetie.” Jessica giggled as she hugs back.

"You know, I'll follow mom..." Krystal said. She went on to follow the mothers in the wedding dress section.

"Awe...Sica..." Tiffany said as she touches Jessica's chin. "I miss you!!" She hugged Jessica once more.

"But yesterday we had tea together."

"Haha...I know...I hope it would be forever..." Tiffany commented cheesily.

"Aisshh..." Jessica answered. "So, where's YoonYul?"

“Oh my gosh…” A doe eyed girl said who was in a light blue dress came walking towards them. “I’m not planning to get married, damn it!”

A girl who looked similar to her shut her eyes and pinched her nose bridge. She shook her head as she adjusted her red ruffled skirt. “None of us wants to get married…My good mother Ylanna just introduced me to this namja earlier…What’s his name??”

“Nickhun…” Yoona answered bitterly.

Tiffany suddenly twitched her lips. “He looks fine alright…He's your future husband??”

Yuri nodded. “But I won't approve... not for me…I'm not going to get married.” Yuri said as she clings over to Yoona’s left arm. “Ergh…Let's runaway together...Can I just marry you instead??"

"Unnie...It's not proper..." Yoona said eeriely to Yuri. But deep down her heart was racing fast and her cheeks were turning pink.

“Should we…ditch our parents?” Tiffany asked as she slids her hand over to Jessica's touches.

Jessica gave everyone an evil smile while she responds back to Tiffany's touches by lacing their fingers together. “Let’s go hunt the Kim cousins Taeyeon and Hyoyeon, then let’s drop by at Sooyoung in their bakery, I bet Seohyun and Sunny are having an afternoon tea by now…”

Yoona and Yuri nodded. "Let's go!!"
