Moving in and a Barbeque

Bitterly Shattered

The girls all squeezed outside the narrow hallway of an apartment building with their heavy bags slung over their shoulders as soon as they came out of the elevator. While waiting for their manager to take out the key, the members couldn’t help but feel their hearts pumping with great speed since it was their first time living away from their homes. Everybody was excited yet anxious at the same time. As soon as the door opened with a click, the fresh aroma of lemon filled the air around them.

“Waa…” The eight members exclaimed in awe as they entered their new home, still fascinated by the idea of their first experience in their company dorm. Everyone dropped their bags on the floor, creating a messy pile of untidiness in their new apartment and scattering around to explore each and every room with screams of joy. The manager oppa couldn’t help but laughed happily at the girls’ reaction as he stood at the door, shaking his head with his arms crossed.

The bedroom door flung opened with a kick. Ha Young, the maknae of the group was the first one to enter. “I want the top bunk!” She yelled as she quickly as she could, climbing onto one of the bed before she flopped down onto the mattress, as if she was afraid she might lose to her older members. The others all came into the room and laughed in chorus, jumping onto their new beds to get their own spots before it was too late.

The bedrooms are divided into two categories—one for the older members, and another one for the younger ones. After deciding their beds, the girls were ordered by their manager, who couldn’t stand the untidiness, to clean up the mess they made outside. Giggling embarrassedly, everyone exited their rooms and picked up their boxes of belongings, entering their rooms again to unpack their bags while the manager went outside for a phone call.

Everyone ran around from room to room, unpacking the things from the boxes they brought. Messy clothes were taken out from the luggage and being dumped on the floor along with the shoes. Make up kits and skin products filled the shelves of the toilets, cluttering the sink with an unpleasant look. The kitchen was a mess with all of the unused utensils as well as emptied boxes. Everywhere was chaos. The girls all sighed at the disorderliness of their new dorm. Wherever they look, the only thing to describe it was… chaotic.

The doorbell rang with a happy tune. Cho Rong tip-toed around the mess on the floor carefully, trying hard not to tip off anything as she welcome their first guest. She yelped in shock as she opened her door. Her eyes were wide as she found out who their first guests were. After several lagging moments, Cho Rong started laughing out loud with her hand covering and over her stomach, indicating how taken aback she was. “Hey kids, come out! Guess who’s here?” She yelled at her fellow members.

Curious on what was so funny, Jae Mi and the others came out from their messy rooms and found themselves staring at Cho Rong, whose face had gone apple red. “What’s wrong, unnie?” Na Eun asked with a worried face. With a mischievous grin on her face, Cho Rong opened the door widely and stood aside, allowing the first guests of their house to enter the room. As soon as the guests enter the room, screams were heard as everyone yelled in disbelief.

“Annyeonghasseyo, we’re Beast!” The six handsome members of Cube’s pride said in unison as they introduced themselves. The girls responded with claps of excitement, feeling overwhelmed that their seniors had visited them even though their schedules were packed.

“Yah, look how messy this place looks!” DooJun started nagging as soon as he arrived. He shook his head and looked at the girls in dissatisfaction. “It’s a good thing we came here to help you unpack!” DooJun continued. “Aish, this is going to be a long day.” Yoseob nodded while the other rolled up their sleeves. The girls giggled. “Kid, get your armors ready.” JunHyung ordered. “Let’s get to work!” With HyungSeung’s final order, everyone got up from their feet and went back to work.

The girls continued in unpacking their bags, arranging their shoes in order and placed them in the shoe rack properly as well as folding their clothes neatly and hang them in their closet. On the other hand, the Beast boys helped with the things in the kitchen and the living room, picking up heavy objects the girls couldn’t handle and arranged them to make the new apartment cozier.

After hours of cleaning, lifting, folding and arranging, everyone flopped onto the large sofa couch placed in the living room. “I never thought that helping people unpack would be so tiring!” Gi Kwang groaned as he leaned his head on Yoseob’s shoulder. “Even dance practice wasn’t this exhausting.” Yoseob agreed with his dancing partner while the girls were busy preparing drinks for their seniors in the kitchen.

“After this, I have come to a conclusion about girls.” HyungSeung nodded to himself in satisfaction while the others wait for his answer. “Girls are weird and they have too much unwanted stuffs that needs to be thrown out.” HyungSeung nagged as he picked up two pink fluffy pillows from the ground. “How many pillows and accessories do you need in this house?!” The others all roared with laughter as the weird elder one made a face. He had made his point.

“Barbeque party!” The maknaes screamed in unison as everyone ran up to the rooftop of the new apartment building. After having a tired day moving into their new home, the director gave permission for them to take a break for a day. And since the Beast boys were so kind to stop by even though they have busy schedules, the girls decided to treat their seniors some goodies as gratitude.

The cool night breeze blew onto everyone’s faces in that beautiful evening as everyone helped with the chores. The girls were in charge of taking out the meat and Kimchi from their bags while the boys prepared the fire on the grill and helped with the frying. The happy mood filled the air as everyone sat down with their cooked meat, feeling satisfied on how their barbeque party had gone so far. The seniors told stories of their early debut days and after that, they took turns in telling jokes. Doo Joon even showed his beloved juniors his talent in imitating older Korean stars. The other members tried as well, but ended up being laughed at as none of them did as good as Beast’s leader.

Jae Mi cracked up until she had her arm across her stomach. It was so funny that her jaw hurt. Sitting up from the ground, she wiped the tears from her eyes while massaging both sides of her jaw to calm herself down. But the happy mood she was feeling disappeared instantly once she felt her phone vibrated. Mom, it wrote on the caller ID. Standing up, Jae Mi pointed towards the door and excused herself.

Closing the door behind her, Jae Mi picked up her phone. “Hey mom…” she greeted her mother in a very soft tone, knowing that something bad is going to happen. “Where are you?” Her mother got to the point. “Where are you right now?” She demanded. Jae Mi bit her lip as she heard her mother’s tone. It was very scary. “I’m at my new dorm. I told you earlier last week that I’ll be living in the dorm with Bo Mi and Na Eun. Our schedules are going to be very packed and we need to be living together.” She answered carefully, hoping not to anger her mother. “I have never agreed to this at all. I want you to come home now! You are not going to continue with this training of yours, not when your grades have dropped. Do you think that I won’t know about your grades when you hid your result slip?” Her mother yelled on the other side of the telephone. “Mom…” Jae Mi tried to explain but she was cut off. “You promised to keep your marks up and said that this will not affect your school performance. Now look what you achieve? I cannot tolerate this stupid dream of yours anymore. You are not going to waste what your father and I had given you. Do you hear me? You better come home right now!”

The anger inside of her was unbearable. She felt really angry, yet sad at the same time. She did everything her parents wanted her to. She studied and did her best in school. She did not befriend people who are bad influences. She attended all the classes they wanted her to go. It was tiring, yes, but she did it because of her dream. She wanted to proof to her parents that she can be good in her studies and concentrate on becoming an idol. But they never understand. That’s what hurts the most. She didn’t disappoint them. They disappoint her.

“No, I won’t. I am not coming home. And that’s final. I am not giving up on this, mom. I’ve told you before. I’m not giving it up, not when we’re about to debut soon. I’ve worked so hard on this and I am not going to leave just because you say so. I’ll take care of myself, tell dad not to worry about me.” Jae Mi finally spoke up. With that, she hung up the phone and switched it off.

Jae Mi tried her best not to cry. She clutched her fist tightly and took a deep breath. Puffing both her cheeks, Jae Mi brightened up and faked a smile before heading towards the roof once again. As usual, everybody was having fun, playing games and drinking their sparkling beverages, arguing about who has the best dance and who is the best looking among the group. Jae Mi couldn’t help but smile at the chaotic scene. Being with her fellow group members always brightens up her mood.

Looking at the circle of people in the middle, Jae Mi realized that one was missing—JunHyung. Out of the corner of her eye, she found her charismatic senior standing alone in the corner, gazing out at the beautiful view of the purple dusk. Snatching a bottle from the table, Jae Mi walked across the floor and came to his side. She placed the drink in front of him and nudged him by the shoulder. He smiled and took his favorite beverage, twisted it open and gulped down a mouthful of fresh juice.

“You okay?” Jae Mi asked, gazing out at the magnificent view of the busy city. “What makes you say that?” JunHyung asked, cocking his eyebrow. The smirk he always had appeared on his face. Jae Mi let out a breath and continued city-gazing. It was more like a sigh. “You can’t hide if from me, sunbae. I always know. What’s wrong?” She answered, concerned about him. “I don’t really want to talk about it.” The older guy interrupted. Then, everything went silent after that.

I may not know where I’m going now. This broken road is trying to tear me down.” A soft melody was heard echoing the air. JunHyung turned around and stared at the girl beside him. She smiled but her gazed was focused at the beautiful night sky as she continued.

But deep inside I’ve found, a secret place where I never knew, where I feel safe, when the world is untrue. Here’s what I learned to do.” “Just sing this song and it takes me right back, to where I belong. And everyday there’s a new bridge to cross, but I’m never far from now, if I have my heart, my soul, my own, in this song…

JunHyung gave a thin smile and closed his eyes, finally gave in to her and listened to his junior’s sweet voice. Jae Mi watched as the frown on his face changed. She was relieved that he felt better. She loved to see her sunbae smile and she would do anything to make him feel better again. It felt nice standing there with him, singing to him. Even though he didn’t want to talk about his problems, at least she can still sing for him. That was the only thing she can do for him, but it felt nice. It was as though they were in their own little world. Everything went back to silent after that. When she stopped singing, JunHyung opened his eyes and gave a little smirk. “That was nice.” He teased.

“Oppa, are you feeling better?” Jae Mi eyed her senior carefully and asked. JunHyung nodded. “I got my favorite drink and a song from my favorite little junior, of course I’m happy.” He said as he smiled, bumping onto Jae Mi’s shoulders. Jae Mi smiled at the closeness but she knew something was still bothering him. “You’re stressed about work too much?” Jae Mi asked. JunHyung shrugged at her question and that was when she knew she had hit the mark.

JunHyung had always been the one who is very serious with his work as an idol. Being such a famous boy band, he pushes himself even harder because he wanted to be good at what he was doing. JunHyung is always the one who is busy in writing and composing the songs for his group and he gives himself a lot of pressure. And because his group is going to have a comeback a few months after hers, Jae Mi guessed that he’s stressed about the new album.

“Don’t be too stressed over it. You’re taking this too seriously when it’s supposed to be fun. Don’t you remember the time when it used to be a dream to become a star? Doing this, singing and dancing on stage, it’s a passion.” JunHyung nodded as Jae Mi poured her heart out in giving him a friendly ‘talk’. She was sure he knew what she had meant, after all, everyone in the music industry relates to it.

“You know oppa, when I was accepted to be a trainee here, I was really grateful. In fact, I was so happy that I practically screamed to everyone that I made it in.” She laughed. “It meant that I’m one step closer to my dream. There’s this fire burning inside of me whenever I perform. And because of it, I gave everything to become someone like all the seniors. I bear with all the soreness that those dance steps gave me and the hardships I face because of this dream. I even argued my way with my family because I have that passion for this.” Jae Mi continued. Then, she looked at him straight in the eye. “Don’t lose that passion, oppa. You’re really good in what you are doing. Don’t let the work take it away.”

JunHyung frowned and went silent. “Ahn Jae Mi, do you know that you sounded like you’re even older than me? And how dare you lecture me about this!” He argued. “Mianhae…” Jae Mi kept her head down and bit her lip. Then, she felt a hand on her head. JunHyung softened and patted her head as if she is a lost little puppy.

“Gomawoyo Jae Mi-ah. I feel better already.” JunHyung said as he bent down a little to look at her face. “I’ll keep that in mind, okay?” he smiled as stood up straight once again. “Let’s go back to the group before they passed out of too much laughter.” He pointed and walked away, back to the group of chaotic children who were laughing like a bunch of crazy idiots at HyungSeung’s lame jokes.

Jae Mi stood in place, dazed at his sudden change in attitude. He had tricked her and then hinted that she sounded older than him. “Yah, did you just said that I’m old?” She glared at the boy in front of him as she finally snapped out of her thoughts. With that, JunHyung ran across the huge space, knowing that he had crossed the line. Note to all the men out there, never ever called or even hint that a girl is old.

“Yah, Yong Jun Hyung, you better get back here!” Jae Mi yelled in anger, chasing behind her now-happy senior. She was glad that he felt much better now. She was happy to see his smile once again. I made all her stressful thoughts about the argument with her mother fade away. Lastly, she was relieved that her simple way of making him smile had worked. But yeah, he was still in deep trouble, even if he’s a senior.

Fell in love after the reading her letter. it was simple yet sweet . i showed emotion yet laughable. your such a talented writer i envy. cos i at English heaps !!

Jae Mi is going through alot . from the pressure from her parents especially her mum is really stressing her. i can see her colour fade . and when she finds out about junhyung and hara i sent wanna read if its gonna make me cry :( but i shall wait for that time to come.

Oh and about your question. Rejection? Its something that hurts your pride alto. too me it does. i have sensitive eye tissue and very emotional so i tend to cry easily even by the little things. but to overcome a rejection is to cry let out the emotions/feelings piled up and smile afterwards. it takes time and the rejection is always there as a memory no matter what but you will overcome one day whether positively or negatively .

And thanks for sharing your writing to read :) can't wait for your future updates
