Mixtape
Description
A mixtape. A black, old fashioned mixtape.
Joo Kyungmi was an average student when suddenly, a mysterious mixtape appears in her locker. Weird. Mixtapes were so outdated and old fashioned. Thinking it's probably nothing and most likely a mistake, she shoves it in her bag without thinking much. Later that night, when doing homework, she spots the tape and figures, hey, might as well give it a listen right? Maybe, she would be able to figure out who it belonged to. However, Kyungmi only hears a vaguely familiar voice, confessing their love for her. Surprised, Kyungmi spends all day trying to figure out who it is but no one really comes to mind. But day after day, there's a new mixtape waiting for her in her locker, giving her new hints and new clues to finding out who it was. Giving her the clues and hints to find out that her secret admirer was none other than Kwon Soonyoung.
Today, you sang to me and it reminds me how glad I am that you're alive.
Foreword
"Remember to call me later tonight once you're done your homework!" My friend calls out, waving to me as she hurried out the school doors. I waved back before turning the dial of my lock, muttering complaints to myself that I too, would be leaving at this time if the stupid teacher hadn't kept us behind to work some more on our essays. I'd be back tomorrow! It wasn't like I'd be leaving the next day. What was the rush for me to finish?
When my locker finally manages to open, I grab my jacket and math text book (more homework, oh the joy! I was practically dying to finish it!) when my eye catches eye of something on the bottom of my locker. Really, my locker managed to get messy and dirty real quick without my knowledge. Every time I cleaned it, it seemed as if it got messier after I was done. I squint at it, kicking it a bit with my foot when I realize it's not trash at all. A black rectangular shape laid on the bottom of my locker, daring me to pick it up.
"Anneyeong, Kyungmi." A teacher says, walking past me. I was practically the last one to leave school.
"Annyeong," I replied before retuning my gaze at the thing. I crouch down, picking it up to examine it. A mixtape. A black, old fashioned mixtape. Great. When was the last time I saw one of these? Elementary? Who used these anymore? No, a better question was how did it end up in my locker? Never mind, I didn't really care.
"Kyungmi?" Aish, I was getting really tired of hearing my name being called. I turn around to see a classmate staring at me blankly. "What are you still doing at school? Everyone has gone home."
"Ah, I had to finish some work in class so I got let out late," I explained, scratching the back of my head. She eyes the mixtape in my hand and I quickly hide it behind my back. How embarrassing. Practically everyone in school has a MP3 player not a mixtape. Besides, don't you need a stereo of some kind to play these things?
I'm scared that she'll ask what it is and what I'm doing with it because to be honest, I don't know myself. Luckily, she ignores it and her head to the side, blinking at me. "Do you want me to wait for you at the bus stop?"
"Yeah, okay. I'll be right out," I replied, standing up, mixtape still in hand. "I just have to grab a couple more things and I'll be right there."
She nods, exiting the school building as well, leaving me alone in the halls yet again. I stared back down at the mixtape in my hand, flipping it front and back, trying to get some clue as to who had left it. Whatever, it was probably a mistake. I was about to throw it out when something else catches my eye on the back. To Kyungmi was scribbled in a thick, black marker across the front. I frowned, staring at the writing. So, apparently. this could only get weirder.
There was no name besides my own and nothing else written except that taunting greeting. It could still be a mistake. I'm sure I'm not the only Kyungmi in the school. I continued studying it when suddenly, the school doors open again, surprising me as the same classmate from before peeks her head inside.
"Kyungmi!" There's my name again. "The bus is here!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Shoving the mixtape in my bag and slamming my locker shut, I hurried for the doors, finally leaving the school.
