Memories,

Follow Your Soul

Chaerin sighed as she sat on her couch.

She stared at the records scattered on the floor of her living room.

She then picked up one of the records.

It won’t hurt listening to it, right?

She stood up and started to play it on the record player.

Soon, the melody filled the whole room.

Take on my heart~~

Take on my heart~

Follow your soul~

Chaerin stood up and headed towards the kitchen.

As soon as she stepped into the kitchen, waves of memories began to fill her mind as the lyrics hit her.

The moment our eyes met

That short moment was long

The time I waited for you

I don’t regret it one bit

Chaerin sat on the chair while she stared at the young man in the apron, preparing her lunch without making a single mess in her kitchen.

She was definitely surprised to see that he laid out all the ingredients neatly on the counter.

She continued staring at him as he cut the vegetables like a professional.

“I didn’t know you could cook,” she spoke out.

“There’s a lot of things you don’t know about me,” the young man, also known as Kwon Jiyong, winked as he continued chopping the vegetables.

Chaerin could only stare in amazement.

Just then, a phone rang.

“Yobosaeyo?”

Her eyes grew bigger upon what she’s seeing.

There he was, in her kitchen, making her lunch without messing up her kitchen, and now he’s even on the phone with someone?!

She continued staring at him as he walked about in the kitchen, tasting the soup with the phone by his ears.

Amazing, was all she could think about.

She thought he was just gonna leave it be or call back later.

But this … the guy sure knows how to multi-task.

After a few hours or so, Jiyong served the plate on the table, slightly waking up Chaerin who had fallen asleep while waiting for him to be done.

He could see her eyes brightening at the sight of the food.

Jiyong then passed her the silverwares.

“Let’s dig in!” the excitement in his tone couldn’t be hidden.

He look at Chaerin before digging in, hoping to hear her comment about his masterpiece.

His excitement soon faded away seeing her dampened face.

“W-what’s wrong? Is the food b-bad?” Jiyong started to panic as he grabbed his fork and dug in his food, wanting to know what was wrong.

He suddenly looked up when he heard her chuckle.

“Ani! It’s not bad! I was just playing around. It’s good. Really good! I didn’t know Kwon Jiyong a.k.a G-Dragon could cook so well!” Chaerin praised him, giving him two thumbs up.

Jiyong couldn’t hide his smile, contented with her praise.

He then began to try out his masterpiece, joining Chaerin who was already slurping down her food.

Just looking at you I feel brand new, my heart thumps

I think that certainly you’re also like that too, oh

But why haven’t you called me yet?

She then decided to go to her secret garden to calm her mind down, as the song continue to fill up the room.

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

I know you felt the way I look into your eyes, don’t ever lie

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

I don’t know when you might be calling so that I,

I’m stuck here waiting.

Chaerin sat on her stool, again as she stared at the guy in front of her, admiring her flowers.

Jiyong looked around her garden, eyes wide with amazement at the pretty flowers and plant everywhere.

He noticed a hat on one of the shelf and took it out.

“Omo. This looks so cute on you!” He placed the hat on her head before stepping back to get a better view.

Jiyong continued staring at the flowers and occasionally bringing all those pretty ones on the table and joining them together.

“Isn’t it pretty?” he squealed.

Chaerin couldn’t help but laugh at his girlish-ness.

Never has she seen any guy going crazy over flowers.

Suddenly, he blurted out. “Chaerin ah, do you want to see a magic trick?”

She nodded her head vigorously.

Chaerin suddenly yelped as Jiyong suddenly pulled the stool she was sitting on closer to him, along with her.

She nearly fell if she didn’t completely lose her balance.

“Yah, what was that for?”

“You need to be in the right angle in order to see the magic trick!”

He then grabbed the spray hose and began to spray in the air.

Chaerin just stared at him, wondering what was he doing.

“Wait for it ….”

And then a rainbow suddenly appeared through the spray.

“Wahhh! It’s so pretty!!”

Chaerin stared at the rainbow with wide eyes.

“It is, isn’t it?” Jiyong chuckled at her expression

She just nodded as she continued staring at the rainbow.

“Tell me how you did it! Tell me!”

“It’s a secret!” he stuck out his tongue and chuckled upon seeing Chaerin pout.

“And now for the finale. Now you see it …”

He stopped spraying the water.

“… now you don’t”

Chaerin became more disappointed seeing the rainbow slowly disappearing.

“Yah, why did you let it go away?” she continued pouting.

“Because it’s stealing all your attention away from me!” Now it was his turn to pout as he look down.

As if the roles had reversed, Chaerin chuckled seeing him pout.

“Jiyong ah, do you really think a rainbow could steal all my attention away from you?”

He suddenly looked up, receiving the sweetest smile he’d ever seen on her face.

At that moment, he swore he felt like he was on cloud nine.

Jiyong suddenly carried Chaerin into his arms, bridal style.

“Aigoo jagiya, you always know how to make me go crazy over you!” as he spins her around in his arms.

“Yah! You’re making me dizzy!” Chaerin tried to struggle free, but in the end gave up and just chuckled at Jiyong’s never-ending spin.

Chaerin sighed.

Okay, maybe the garden was a bad place to go to.

Probably a nap could cool me down.

As she was heading to her room, she passed by the balcony and another wave of memories invaded her mind as the lyrics continued.

I think you will come today

But everyday I’m only waiting for you

I think you’re the same

But why are you hesitating?

Chaerin sighed as she sat on the stool, once again, facing him.

“Why am I even doing this …” she muttered.

As if he didn’t heard her, “Open wideeeeeeee,” Jiyong opened his mouth wide, gesturing her to do the same.

Chaerin hesitated a while before following him.

Before she could open fully wide, he began attacking with a toothbrush.

“Aish jagiya, why won’t you take care of your teeth?” He frowned while trying to clean .

“Wai oaerr wen its ust onna get oirty again” (why bother when it’s just gonna get dirty again) Chaerin frowned.

“But still…”

After what felt like eternity to her, he was finally done as he passed her a cup of water.

“Rinse your mouth with this.”

Jiyong then puffed his cheeks as he shook his head, once again, gesturing her to do the same.

She stared at the cup before rinsing with it.

“Oh, and you’re not supposed to-”

Before Jiyong could finish his sentence, Chaerin already swallowed the water.

“Yah! I was about to say you’re not supposed to swallow the water! You were supposed to spit it back out! Aishhh.”

Chaerin stared at him with forming an ‘O’ shape.

Jiyong couldn’t help but to chuckle at her.

“Aishh. Stop being so cute, will you?” He ruffled his hair and Chaerin couldn’t help but to blush at his comment.

Chaerin lost her mood to take a nap already.

This is driving her nuts!

… AHA! The dance studio! Why didn’t I think of that?!

She quickly ran down the stairs to her basement, where her dance studio was at.

Don’t hide your feelings

Even if you fake it, I know it all

Your voice remains in my ear, oh

In my entire heart there’s only you

Chaerin began to stretch in front of the mirror while Jiyong at the back sitting down on the stool, mimicked her actions.

She then slumped on the floor, tired.

He quickly went to her, worried.

“Jagiya, gwenchana?” He bent down while looking at her with worried eyes.

“Ani, I’m just tired.” Chaerin sighed as she stared at the floor.

Out of the sudden, Jiyong started to dance randomly, doing body waves here and there, trying his very best to turn that frown on her face upside down.

Instead of getting a chuckle or even a smile, Chaerin stared at him with bored eyes.

“What are you doing?”

Embarrassed, he scratched the back of his neck as a nervous chuckle escaped his lips.

“Err.. ani. I-I was j-just trying to .. c-cheer you up …”

Chaerin just nodded as she brought her leg up to her chin.

Jiyong started to dance randomly again, his arms and legs flinging everywhere, determined to make Chaerin smile.

Finally, he saw that smile he’d been waiting to see on her face.

Her smile suddenly grew into chuckles and then to laughters.

Jiyong broke into a huge grin hearing her laughter.

It was like music to his ears.

“Wahhhhh. My Chaerin is finally laughing again!” He couldn’t hide his excitement as he tried to do a handstand.

But even before 2seconds, he’d already landed on his , causing another burst of laughter from Chaerin.

“You’re such a babo!” She said in between her laughs.

“But I’ll always be your babo!” Jiyong was grinning from ear to ear.

She stomped out from the dance studio.

Chaerin ruffled her hair in frustration.

Almost everywhere she goes, there will always be memories of him and her!

She needed to get out from the house.

Chaerin hoped on to her car, leaving the record player on, and drove to the nearest café.

She the radio, hoping to sooth her mind.

But instead,

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

Take on my heart (follow your soul)

I know you felt the way I look into your eyes, don’t ever lie

She groaned.

What’s so nice about this song? All it does is giving me a headache!

Chaerin quickly turned off the radio and headed to the nearby café, also known as her favourite hangout place.

She stepped into the café and sat at her usual seat, which is always by the window.

Once again, memories began flooding her almost-calmed mind.

Chaerin took a sip of her hot chocolate as she stared outside the window, enjoying the scene and smelling the lovely scent of coffee in the café.

Just when she was about to get her peace, Jiyong stepped into the café and quickly took the seat in front of her, ruining her moments.

“Ah, mianhae I was late. There were so many people I could barely squeeze through them! Chaerin ah, why do you always pick the peak hours knowing there will be so many people in the streets? Aishh.”

And it goes on.

It was like this almost everytime they meet at the café.

Chaerin would usually sit at their usual spot, drinking hot chocolate while Jiyong would come in later and rant on the crowded street he had to face on the way to the café.

From there, he would rant on about his life, his work and so on while Chaerin just sit there, listening to everything.

The waiter then came and serve his usual coffee.

They always meet in this particular café that they didn’t even need to order anything as the waiter would know what they always want.

It became a routine for Chaerin.

Jiyong was, as usual, ranting about how stressing his work was and so on while placing a couple of sugar cubes in his coffee.

One cube. Then two cubes. And three then four, she counted.

Still not realizing anything, he stirred his coffee, eyes never leaving hers as he took a sip of his coffee.

And finally …

Jiyong spitted out his coffee, causing Chaerin to burst into laughter.

“Haha! That’s what you get for talking without realizing what you’re doing!”

She couldn’t hold her laughter.

“Yah! Why didn’t you tell me?”

Jiyong whined and cringed at how sweet his coffee was.

“I just wanted to see your reaction.”

Chaerin continued laughing again, replaying the scene over and over again in her mind while Jiyong couldn’t help but to grin, seeing her smiling face.

That’s it. She couldn’t take it anymore.

Chaerin ruffled her hair in annoyance as she stormed out of the café, heading home.

As she stepped into the apartment, Chaerin walked over to the living room where all the records were scattered everywhere.

The song had stopped playing, thankfully.

But as she continued to stare at the scattered records, the song came back into her mind.

I can’t stand it, I can’t stop, I want to be with you

I’m already ready, just come to me

Enough, lose it. Brush off all your fears. Your feelings are like mine.

Move the way you want, it’s all up to you.

Chaerin was reading her book, not bothering about Jiyong who was staring at the records scattered everywhere.

They were at her living room, sitting on the ground, obviously bored.

“Jagiya, how bout this?” He held up a record and showed to her.

She looked up, not bothered a bit.

Jiyong excitedly place the record on the record player and waited for it to start.

Unfortunately, it made the screeching sound and stopped spinning.

Chaerin just chuckled and continued reading her book.

Jiyong took out the record and threw it to the side while replacing it with another one and place it on the record player, hoping it would play this time.

And thankfully, it did as a soft piano melody, filled the room.

The dance beat soon came and Jiyong nodded his head to the song.

“Wah, Chaerin ah! This song is nice! Where did you get it?”

“No idea. I bought so many records I can’t even remember where I bought them.”

Jiyong continued to dance to the song when he suddenly thought of an idea.

He quickly took out his phone while facing his back to her.

Chaerin got curious to who he could be calling, trying to sneak over his shoulders.

Her questions got answered when she heard her phone ringing and chuckled at the the caller ID.

“Yes, Jiyong?”

“Chaerin ah! I want to let you hear a wonderful song I’ve just heard!”

She couldn’t help but to chuckle when she saw him moving to the record player and placing his phone on it.

“It’s nice, isn’t it?”

“Yes, yes it is.” She let out another chuckle.

Jiyong then lay down on her lap, eyes closed with a smile on his face.

Chaerin couldn’t help but to smile at the perfection that is lying on her lap as she gently his hair.

Chaerin felt her legs grew weak as she slumped on the floor, still staring at the records.

Without her realizing, a tear escaped her eyes and flowed down her cheeks.

Soon, the rest of the tears followed.

Chaerin stared at the photo frame on her table.

Jiyong ah, why did you have to leave me?

I wanna know what happened to Jiyong. I wish there was a POV of Jiyong. It's so sad that it ended with Jiyong leaving her. (It's either he died or he just left him for some reason.) But I really like how you wrote this story. And how you showed some flashbacks. It was like watching a movie. Thanks you so much for sharing. :)
