Ideas

The Beast's Shadow

School on Tuesday went little better than on Monday. Jimin had discovered that Chanyeol was just as indesisive as her, and they couldn't come up with an idea for the project, no matter how hard they brainstormed.

"How about soil? Everyone likes soil," Chanyeol said, flipping the page of his science book.

Jimin gave him a strange look. "Soil? No, we're not doing it on soil, that's just plain stupid and boring."

"No, no, listen to me. We could take soil samples of soil from all over the place - like from under the tree, grassy areas, in the forest and at different depths - and then we can grow plants and see what seeds germinate the best in every conditions. Then, we can see if fertilisers affect the growth of plants and how well it does." Chanyeol finished with a grin, looking proud.

"That ... how did you think of that idea?" Jimin asked, impressed.

"I'm naturally brilliant, it's a talent." Chanyeol brushed his hair off of his face. Kyungsoo had given him the idea. Jongin, Yixing and Joonmyun had also pestered Kyungsoo for an idea, but it was Chanyeol who had succeeded by annoying him so much that he couldn't stand it. "So is that a yes to it?"

"I don't know yet, can we give it a while? We have to plan it and see if we can do it, after all. We don't want to rush onto anything and regret it later on," Jimin said, thinking of back to the last decision she had rushed. In the end, they had to scrap the idea and they barely managed to pass the Geography class.

"Why? I thought it was a good idea," he said.

"I know, but-"

"All those in favour of it, raise your hand?" Chanyeol said, and his arm shot into the air. Jimin kept her hand resolutely down by her side. "That's a majority vote, motion passed."

"Wait! What?" Jimin asked in confusion. "How is that a majority? There are two people, one voted for it and the other voted against it, that means that it's an even vote. Fifty-fifty."

"No, I'm taller, that means that I get an extra per cent. I'm fifty-one and you're forty-nine," Chanyeol told her.

"Wait, no. That makes no sense!" Jimin protested.

"It does!"

"Fighting already? That's not a good work ethic, you know," a voice told them.

Jimin whipped around to look around at the new comer. She assumed that he was one of Chanyeol's friends.

The boy came up to their table. He had two cartons of milk in his hands. He tossed one to Chanyeol and opened his own carton up, sticking a straw through the tinfoil part. He eagerly drank the milk, looking at Jimin. Chanyeol did the same as the new boy.

After he had finished drinking he looked at Jimin, "You're the wolf hater?"

Jimin frowned at the name. Was that her name now? "Actually, it's Jimin," she told him.

"Jimin," he repeated. "I'll stick to wolf hater." Jimin looked offended, but he didn't notice. "Chanyeol, are you going to come to lunch or what? Why are you still in the class?"

"Erm, sorry, but what's your name?" Jimin interrupted.

"Me?" The boy held a finger to his chest. "I'm Jongdae, but you could call me the wolf lover."

Jimin stared at him, trying to figure out whether he was serious or not. When she realised that he was, she let out a single, "Ha."

"What?" Jongdae asked, confused. "You're that against wolves?"

Jimin chewed her bottom lip. This was what happens when she let run with her - people will ask her questions which will lead to more awkward ones.

Chanyeol stood up and stretched. "So, we'll start the project at the weekend, okay? We'll plan it tomorrow and get the stuff. I doubt anyone has even thought off an idea, yet, so we'll probably be the first finished. You know what they say, the early bird catches the worm."

"We never decided on the project, though!"

"What are you think of doing?" Jongdae asked, paying no attention to Chanyeol's desire to leave.

"Soil," Chanyeol answered with a proud smile.

Jongdae smiled knowingly, "Kyungsoo give you the idea?"

"Who's Kyungsoo?" Jimin asked, curious. "One of your friends?"

The pair both ignored her. "Of course," he replied. "Do you think that I could come up with it?"

"Is that why you and the others were bugging him?" Jongdae asked and Chanyeol nodded. "I was wondering ... you four managed to annoy him worse than Luhan annoys Sehun."

"Come on, I'm not that bad," he reasoned. Jongdae gave him a single look and Chanyeol conceeded, "Okay, fine, fine."

"You know what Jongin's thinking of doing his on?" Jongdae asked. "How to attract someone."

"He shouldn't have too much of a problem with that one!" said Chanyeol and Jongdae feverently agreed.

"Who's Jongin?" Jimin asked them, feeling quite lost and helpless. She thought back to the four, trying to think and one in particular jumped to mind. The quiet guy who would fiddle awkwardly with pens and always seemed lost in thought. She thought of the time that he has smiled at her and realistion dawned on her. "Ahh!"

The two boys looked around in shock. "You know him?"

"No, she likes him!" Chanyeol said, a massive grin on his face.

Jimin flushed red. "No, I just know him, that's all."

"Want to bet that she's in Jongin's project?" Chanyeol asked Jongdae.

Jongdae scrunched half of his face up in indecisiveness. "Fine. Twenty?"

"Cool," he agreed.

"I won't be in his project," Jimin murmured, affronted. She hadn't met the pair for that long, and they were already betting on whether or not she was going to be featured in their friend's project as a girl hopelessly in love?

*~*~*~*

The group of twelve boys were at Jongdae's house. The atmosphere was sombre. Tensions were running high. They all watched the television with no life behind their eyes. They kept perfectly still, like statues. Occasionally, a finger would twitch or they'd blink, so that onlookers would realise that they were still alive and breathing.

Eventually, Chanyeol grew tiresome of the atmosphere. "Guys, we need to change this."

Kris turned mechanically to the only boy that could rival his tall stature. "And how do you suggest we do that?"

"I think we spent too long without, you know ... transforming," Chanyeol said. A pillow flew out of no where and hit Chanyeol.

"Oi! My mum is in the house! Keep your voice down, you idiot!" Jongdae shouted, furious.

Minseok smiled and smacked Jongdae promptly on the back of the head. Out of his eleven friends, Minseok and Kris were the only ones that were allowed to get away with doing such things to Jongdae. Jongdae knew the reason for Kris, but not for Minseok. There was just an authority about him, that Jongdae couldn't help but obey.

"Keep your voice down first, ," Minseok scolded.

"Well, Kris, what do you say?"

Kris thought for a few moments. All eyes were on him, waiting for that answer.

"I heard that it's the full moon next Monday," Sehun said. "What do you reckon? We could freak a few people out ... Start some rumors ... The aftermath would be fun."

Chanyeol gave him an appreciative look. "I've taught you well, my son," he told Sehun solemnly.

"Kris, what do you say?" Sehun asked, throwing a half-full can at Chanyeol.

Kris didn't know what to do. He could go with the immature kids' idea, but there could be a horrible backlash from that. But, they had a point. Without transforming, they'd all become restless. He was sure that he'd seen Joonmyun walking in a circle for a good ten minutes before he came to his senses and he realised what he was doing - and that was a few days ago!

"I'll think about it," Kris said.

They'd been trying to ween themselves off of transforming. Transforming can give you a high, a feeling of such exileration that you may never want to become human again. All of your emotions changed and all of your thoughts became derailed.

You were a wolf, and that was all. You were an animal that didn't care whether the deer that you just killed had a family or not. You were a fantastic creature that could do almost anything. All senses were heightened, everything was so much more. Everything was fantastic.

However, transforming was bad. For one, even though it was a year since the last of them, Joonmyun, had transformed, it was still extremely painful. No one had quite gotten over that aspect of it. Some of them still passed out. A change into an entirely different creature isn't an easy thing.

It couldn't be done in a matter of seconds.

The television showed a girl stabbing her ex-boyfriend because he had cheated on her. Fake blood went everyone. It looked very fake, but Joonmyun's first clenched and his knuckles paled.

He had a harder time than the others, it was harder for him to control his thoughts. He often felt like he was going to snap at any moment. His nails bit into his palm and he swallowed, sure that it was audible.

Surely it shouldn't be this hard for him to control his thoughts. Even Jongdae was slightly more level-headed than him. And Jongdae was just a hot-headed , everyone knew that. Even his mum regretably knew about the part.

He looked away the window, blinking more than necessary, trying to clear his thoughts. No, it certainly shouldn't be this hard. He struggled to keep his hands from shaking. It definitely shouldn't be this hard.

He'd cheated. He had transformed into a wolf every so often because it'd all become too much to bear. The pain was getting easier to handle, though. No longer did he pass out and the time had changed. It still took the others over ten minutes, but his transformation was a few minutes less. It wasn't a considerable difference, but it was still there.

It was still a difference, and a scary one at that.

He thought about the last time that he hunted. The smell of the fresh blood trickling out of the fatal wound on the deer. He'd been going for small kills, rats and the like, not wanting to attract attention. He was surprised at his abililty to resist hunting deer. It was getting harder, to resist, though, and in the end he had surrendered and began hunting the larger prey.

It was more satisfying, but still no where near enough.

Joonmyun shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He picked up a cheese sandwhich and stuffed it into his mouth. He grabbed a glass of milk and attempted to drink it, almost choking.

Dairy. Dairy was good. Dairy calmed him down. Dairy calmed them all down. There was something in it that calmed their animalistic senses and let them stave off transforming a little bit longer.

They only transformed when their animalistic senses took them to a new height. When they felt as if they could no longer hold onto their inner beast.

"Tell me you did not just throw a can across my living room," Jongdae whispered in a deadly voice and Kris's mouth twitched up. Sometimes, it was fun to see Jongdae lose the plot.

Sehun balked. "What? I ... no?" he squeaked, terrified.

"You. Will. Die!" Jongdae growled and lunged for the taller boy.

Chapter 9: I'm on Jongdae team for romance... Jongdae is my ultimate bias and after him, Chanyeol oppa... So, I call dibs on Jongdae to have Jimin... Jongdae in this story is totally cool... He seems badass and would do anything to protect their Alpha... Poor Jimin to have such wolves obsessed dad... His father is too obsessed with the creature until he forgot his own family feelings... *Sighs*... Great story you have here... For the first time, I stumbled into a story that have the girl character hate wolves or anything related to it... Update soon... ^^

Chapter 9: Hi, a new reader here~
I guess I've done a reallly good job for giving this story a chance to read, seriously at first, I'm not sure weather I should read this or not even if its my favourite genre..but then I try one chapter and cant stop it ^_^

Basically this story hooked me up and I really love the setting and characters..And one more thing that hook3d me up here is that the poster obviously got Jongdae and chanyeol as main characters but in the few early chapters, i was wondering are they really the main, and how the hell would you find connection between chan and chen since they seems to have difference personality, and they are also 10 other wolves! Sorry if you get confused, i'm really bad at wording n i didn't even know what I'm saying here -_-

Well I especially likes Jongdae character the most hehee..sorry, just my bias heart ^__^

And I feel dissapointed reaching this chapter since I WANT TO READ MOOORE ^0^

Another update pleeese..this is getting more interesting ^_^
