R:Chapter 6
Finally, A Happy Ever AfterYou know about some times that you just had to wake even though you don’t really have to? No alarms, no one waking you, but you just wake up by yourself, not even having something to do. Well, right now, it’s happening.
I opened my eyes, amazingly wide awake. I looked around my surroundings and it’s barely bright. My mom is still sleeping and the sun is not shining—yet.
I have no intention on lying on the bed when it is clear that I won’t get any sleep any time soon; and so I got out of the bed, plugged my ear with music—kpop of course and opened the door. I was shocked at first of what I saw. A bunch of guys are sleeping on a bunch of spare beds. Oh right... they slept here... I thought to myself when I remembered that my life won't be what it would used to be. I'm in Korea now; and because of Luhan, I got to know these men that I always adored only through the internet and imagined of meeting them inside my mind.
My stomach growled. Thank God they are not awake yet to hear my stomach complain.
I head to the kitchen to see what I can do with my empty stomach and maybe possible breakfast. I opened one of the cabinets and I saw some boxes of pancakes—a lot of them.
I grinned. Welp, I guess I should make breakfast for the guys as well.
I started making pancakes immediately. Making pancakes is easy from the start. But it kind of gets complicated when it comes to cooking it. Not only does your surroundings get hot when you cook, but the flipping of a pancake can be pretty tricky at times. It can be pretty frustrating when the perfect circle would get ruined once you try flipping. I usually don’t care when I cook pancakes for myself but right now, I'm cooking for EXO as well. So I try extra hard. I eat some of the already cooked ones to satisfy my stomach. Not long, I'm already sweating a lot because of the heat. I wiped my sweat with the back of my hand as I smiled internally at the song now playing, “Sorry, Dear Daddy” by f(x). This is the first ever song that I really tried to master the lyrics even before I got to know the Korean language. Most of the songs that I really like I just memorize them unconsciously through listening, but this song, I really wanted to master it. As I listened to it, I couldn’t help but sing along to the song. I only stopped when it comes to the high notes because I know I can't reach it and the time when I saw and felt someone near me.
I looked in alarm, my heart beating fast because of possible terror; but when I recognized the person, I can only put my hands on my chest, trying to calm my heart down.
“Lay..!” I exclaimed in a breathless whisper.
“Morning.” He rubbed his eyes in a hint of a hoarse voice.
When my heart finally calmed down, I greeted back. “Morning. Why are you up so early?”
“Just wanting to get some water...” He smiled a little. “Can I?”
I nodded dumbly, seeing his dimple once again can really distract me sometimes. “O-of course...help yourself.”
“Thanks.”
His dimple is showing again. I looked down shyly, my cheeks getting even redder not only from the heat but because of Lay’s incredibly cute dimple.
“How about you? Why are you up so early?” Lay asked curiously after he drank water.
“Oh, um...I’m an early person?” it was more likely a question than an answer. “And I was hungry.” I flipped a pancake.
“Oh...” Lay nodded his head—looking at the pancakes stashed on the plate
“You want?”
“Oh no, it's okay.”
“No, it's okay. I'm cooking these for you guys as well...”
“Really?”
I nodded, wiping another sweat that trickled down from my forehead.
“Wow. Thank you.” Lay bowed a little and when he saw me wiping my sweat he suddenly volunteered. “Oh... let me finish them.” He reached out for the spatula that I was holding.
“Oh. No it's okay.” I shook my head, moving my hand with the spatula away from him. “I'm fine.”
“But you're sweating...” Lay contradicted. “A lot.”
I looked down at myself and true enough, my shirt is a bit wet from my sweat. I blushed—embarrassed that he would see me like this.
“Now go.” He urged smiling a bit.
“Okay. I’ll leave it to you then. You know how to cook this right?” I agreed, really embarrassed that I am in this messy state and so, even though as much as I wanted to finish cooking, I need to change. I gave Lay the spatula and he took it greatfully.
“Yeap.”
I smiled at him and made my way out of the kitchen but not until I bumped into someone. “Oh sorry.” I murmured, not looking who I bumped into because clearly it's a boy.
“Why are you awake?” the familiar boy asked me as I flinched at recognition.
I looked up and I was right. “Morning.” I greeted to him. “I have to go somewhere... so yeah.” I stuttered backing away from his sight.
When I got back inside the room, I decided to just take a bath and get ready for work already; since I don’t want to waste my clothes just by changing and changing again later on. As I bathe, I can hear that majority of the guys are already awake from their noise that they are making that can be heard up to the bathroom.
Once I'm ready for work, I got out of the room and saw the guys already eating their breakfast. I smiled at them. “Good morning~!”
“Good morning, Mei Xin-noona~! Chanyeol beamed, his head popping up from the crowd.
I waived my hand, mirroring his smile.
“Mei Xin-ah! Come eat with us!” Xiumin invited, his mouth still has food in it.
“Yeah!” Kai agreed.
“It's okay. I already ate.” I told them referring to earlier.
“What? Come on. Lay cooked pancakes~” Tao tried to be convincing.
All I can do was sneaker at his cuteness.
“Actually...” Lay started, trying to empty the food from his mouth. “Mei Xin cooked more than half of what you guys are eating right now.”
“What? You made this for us? Thank you!” Baekhyun grinned.
“Hey~” Lay whined. “How about me? I don’t get any?”
“It's normal for you. It's not normal for her.”
“The pancakes are good.” Luhan complimented, glancing at me.
I stared at him. He is so cold right now. I never thought that he could be like this... he used to be the reason of my smiles. I felt my heart ache at the thought. Stupid, Mei Xin... I scolded myself. You brought this upon yourself.
“Hey, noona. Where is the other noona?” Sehun asked.
“She's still asleep.” I answered after I broke out of my gaze from Luhan. “She gets more free days than me. And she would probably wake up by 9...at the earliest...”
“You're not going to wake her?” Kris raised his eyebrow.
“ Ummm... no.” I answered, rubbing the back of my neck with my hands. “I'm afraid of the consequences.” I sheepishly smiled.
“Is she that scary...?” Chen wondered.
“For me she is... I don’t know with you guys...” I shrugged.
“The time when I called her noona... did she get mad at me?” Sehun tilted his head.
“No...” I shook my head, getting comfortable talking about someone else than myself. “She was just messing with you.”
“Really?” Sehun’s eyes brightened.
I nodded, with a smile. “But you should really stop calling her noona.”
Sehun pouted. “But she is a noona.” He reasoned out. “What's with being old...er?”
I chuckled, stepping closer to them this time because I got tired standing. “Nothing. Just the name, I guess? I'm not sure... for me it is...”
“Then if someone calls you unnie... will it be okay?”
I nodded. “But again... I don’t know with Mommy Chun Hua... It's just in my opinion.”
“Unnie~” Tao said cutely.
I was surprised by this but I just burst out laughing at his silliness. Once I was done, I opened my eyes and saw almost all of them had amused looks. A chuckle left out from me. “Seriously. You didn’t have to do that, Tao.”
“Wae?”
“I'm fine with noona.” I wiped my eyes away for possible tears of laughter.
“I think I like to call you unnie more.” Chen teased.
I laughed once again at the word unnie. “Really, I like noona more.”
“So, are you really full?” Kyungsoo asked with his signature big eyes. They are so cute and adorable. “You're not going to eat with us?”
“No.” I confirmed. “But please leave some for Chun Hua...if ever she’s going to eat breakfast...” I murmured.
“She doesn’t eat breakfast?” Chanyeol more or less barked in shock.
“Umm... no...?” I answered. Did he have to hear that?
“Wae?”
I shugged, not knowing what to say.
“Well... there are still 3 pancakes left...” Sehun pointed out after seeing them on the table.
“We’ll leave it for her.” Luhan stated.
“But is it enough?” Chanyeol furrowed his eyes thinking it was otherwise.
“It is.” I nodded, trying to affirm Chanyeol that he doesn’t need to worry.
“Okay... I think we need to go...” Kris muttered, looking at his watch. “Before we get in trouble.”
“Okay.” I nodded. “Nice to meet you all.”
“Wait... aren’t we going to cause a scene if all of us go at the same time?” Luhan asked.
“Really, hyung?” Kai asked innocently.
“Well... we don’t really know... better go little by little?” Suho suggested.
“Little by little?” Chen repeated. “Hyung, you are so harsh. We are not things!” Chen exclaimed, acting as if he is hurt.
Suho face palmed himself. “I- I didn’t mean that...” He waived his hands as a sign of denying. He was smiling but his eyes were a bit troubled.. “I meant we should you know...” He tried to look for words in his head but found nothing.
“Go on little groups?” Baekhyun asked.
“Yeah yeah.” Suho nodded, relieved that Baekhyun understood what he meant. “Thanks.”
“You're welcome, hyung.”
“Now, who shall go first?” Kris asked, clapping both of his hands once.
“I’ll go...” Lay raised one of his hands.
“I’ll go with you.” Suho stepped up to stand beside Lay, grinning.
“Who else?” Lay asked and saw Sehun. “Sehun-ah. Come with us.”
“Eh?” Sehun tilted his head confused for a bit. He was thinking that he would go with Luhan. “Can't I go with Luhan-hyung?”
“I think he would go with Mei Xin...?” Chen murmured unsure.
“Wait? What? How do you know that?” Luhan asked confused. He never told anyone that he escorts Mei Xin to and fro.
Chen smirked. “It's obvious, hyung.”
Luhan frowned.
“Yeah... we figured that it's the only reason that you leave earlier than any of us.”
I blushed at their conversation. Seriously, why are they making a deal with this? Why is Luhan so intent on escorting me every day? “Umm... I don’t think I need ...” I announced, more on trying to tell Luhan than to everybody. Heads turned to me except for Luhan. “I mean... I have been staying here for a while already and I think I already memorized the way to my work place.”
Luhan sighed heavily that caught the attention of most guys except for Chanyeol and Tao who were already on the sofa playing with each other’s games and Sehun looking at them play.
“But you always wonder around.”
“Mei Xin-shii. It's not what you're thinking... we are not complaining or anything.” Suho explained.
I kept my mouth shut—not wanting to say the wrong words that might hurt some people. What do I really want? I'm not sure. I feel like I want to avoid Luhan at all cost but I also feel that I should go to him. The Luhan that is in front of me right now is the Luhan that I don’t know. I feel like I was the cause of why he is like this to me. But when it comes to others, I can see the Luhan that I always adored.
“I’ll go with you, Lay-hyung.” Kai raised his hand, breaking the silence.
“Okay.” Lay nodded. “Let’s go?”
“Yeah.” Suho and Kai nodded.
“See you later guys.” They waived.
“Bye Mei Xin-unnie.” Kai called out and I chuckled once again with the unnie. Suho waved goodbye to me and I saw Lay’s dimple smile again that made me smile—the smile that I had missed for a long time now.
As Lay, Suho and Kai left, we all waited for a while to make some gap.
“Noona.” Sehun called out. I turned my head to look at Sehun with my sleepy eyes. This is a disadvantage when I wake up early.
“Mmm?” I asked sleepily.
“Hey, if you're sleepy, go back to sleep.” Kris scolded.
I shook my head. “No, ge. I have work.”
“What time did you sleep last night?” Luhan asked with raised eyebrows.
“Early. I just woke up earlier than usual.” I answered him not even glancing to look but my eyes were on Sehun instead. “What is it, Sehun?” I asked referring to his call earlier.
Sehun smiled shyly. “How long have you known, Luhan-hyung?”
“Oh...” I laughed awkwardly. “Well... it's a bit complicated...”
“Wae?” Chen tilted his head.
“Hmmm... Luhan-ge is the son of my family’s friends... and... When we were kids, we didn’t really know each other even though our parents were close.”
“In short. We only knew each other for a few years.” Luhan summed it up.
“Oh.” Sehun nodded.
“But I bet Luhan-hyung has some secrets that he didn’t want to tell.” Chen grinned deviously. “Do you know any?”
I chuckled but shook my head. “No... There’s none. And you guys will find out in your own time.” I grinned, playing safe in this conversation.
“Uhh... Unnie. You are just playing safe~!” Tao exclaimed noticing it.
I laughed. “That's the only answer that you're going to get from me.”
“We’re going to go ahead.” Kris announced getting out from the kitchen with a glass of water in hand. Xiumin and Baekhyun stood beside him. When they were about to leave the room after waving goodbye, Tao exclaimed. “Wait! Kris-hyung. Wait for me~!” He whined, standing up and catching up with Kris. “Bye, unnie.”
“Noona~!” I corrected him in time before he was really gone.
After the latest batch, Chen, Kyungsoo, Chanyeol, Luhan, Sehun and I waited a bit more. Chanyeol and Chen were busy playing with the play station as the rest of us watched them. I noticed that Chanyeol has the most epic reactions among the bunch of them. It's really interesting. Soon, only Luhan, Sehun and I are left since Sehun really wanted to go with Luhan that he even asked me if it was okay for him to come along. Of course, I didn’t mind at all. In fact, I was thankfull because the walk to my workplace might not be eerily quiet after all.
“Let’s go?” Luhan asked me.
I nodded. I might be late for work when we wait a little more. Sehun was excited as the 3 of us walked. Luhan and Sehun were beside each other while I on the other hand was at their back, following them. But I was surprised when Luhan turned to me and slowed his pace for us to be side by side.
“You lied about your bias...” He muttered.
“What?” I asked confused as to why he suddenly brought this conversation up.
“I don’t really think that Sehun is your bias.” He stated more clearly.
I think a vain popped at the side of my temple. “Really...?” I muttered, gritting my teeth a little. “Then do tell who my bias is.”
Luhan didn’t hesitate to answer. “It's Lay. I don’t think he is just your bias... you really like him, don’t you?” he asked with a seriously look, his eyes boring into mine.
“Th-that's not the case!” I stuttered. A part of me says that I should just let him think what he wants. But I guess, the other part of me was stronger that made me really contradict him.
Luhan shrugged and reached his hand out to stop Sehun who was walking normally. “We’re here.”
It took a while to understand what he just said but when he pointed at something and I followed it, I noticed that we are in front of my workplace. I didn’t want to leave mine and Luhan’s conversation like that but I had no choice but to leave it for now. We can't let people notice that we actually know each other.
I nodded without looking at them but mentally saying my goodbyes as I walked my way inside the company.
