What I Said, and What I Meant Part: 1

This Is Awkward

They had both climbed three flights of stairs and were now on the rooftop looking over the sun setting on geumho. Ji Eun stood relatively close to the boy. He was clearly taller than her.

“ How old are you?” Ji Eun stared out from the terrace they were perched at.  Sanghyun sighed and contemplated saying his korean age or his american age.

“ I am 18.” He stated, letting his eyes wander at her profile for the moment being. Sanghyun couldn’t help but blush at some of the things he thought in his mind about her.

Ji Eun fiddled with the strap on her cellphone before answering, as if she could hear his thoughts. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other.

“ Im 15, so you’re an oppa.” Ji Eun met his eyes and tried to hide her smile. She already had all the chingu’s she needed, all she really wanted was namchin that would take care of her. She inhaled and exhaled trying to gather her thoughts before speaking again. Sang Hyun would be perfect. But hadn’t she just met him? How could she know that he was perfect? Ji Eun sighed and let her eyes wander over him from head to toe. He was tall, quiet, as slightly mysterious. She couldn’t quite tell what he was thinking which was the only thing that really bothered her.

“Are you enjoying the view?” He joked and Ji eun immediately felt the red swirls coming back into her cheeks.

“Yah, Oppa I thought you said you could speak korean!” She shrieked before hitting him on the shoulder.

“I never said I couldn’t speak korean, I said my korean isn't good.” He shrugged. “Don’t worry, if it helps, I think you’re pretty too.”

Ji Eun scoffed at him.

“I liked you better asleep.” she set her guitar down and crossed her arms.

“That can be arranged.” Sanghyun started towards the wall.

“Yah! quit playing we only have ten minutes now!” She pulled on his arm. Sang Hyun stopped and stared down at her intently, waiting for her to talk. Ji Eun turned away and gulped silently.

“ So, we have to sell ourselves to whoever is judging us.” she began, walking around sanghyun slowly.

“Maybe, we could pretend to be classmates, who love to hate each other?” She suggested. Sanghyun shrugged.  “ That sounds good. That gives me seven more minutes to catch some z’s”He made his way over to the wall and slumped down.

Ji Eun rolled her eyes  at him.

“And oppa,” She started and he looked up at her.”Try anything funny, and I’ll knock you out.” Her nose scrunched up before she turned away.

“Action!” The ahjussi called before he scurried back to his seat.

The whole scene would be impromptu and they would make up their lines as the went on. If they survived two hundred seconds of being watched while using, english, dancing, and basic acting skills they would pass their evaluation.

“So, you are telling me you think you’re better than me?” Ji Eun tried her best speaking in english.

“No.”Sang Hyun replied.

“Then what are you telling me?”

“I’m telling you that I Know i’m better than you.” Sang Hyun replied.

80 seconds left

Ji eun’s stare was blank executing all the right features of her face. Her soft puffy cheeks and bright eyes. To the untrained eye someone could think that she was spaced out, but in all reality she was extremely focusing. Ji eun took a step back.

50 seconds left

“Just stay out of my way from now on.” she rubbed her eyes and walked past him. Sang Hyun grabbed her arm and swung her back towards him in a very fluid motion, almost like a dance then held her close.

“Mianhae.” He whispered into the top of her head.

Ji Eun stayed silent, unable to think with their sudden proximity. She blinked a few times realizing it was her turn to talk. She felt him tighten his arms around hers like a shelter and couldn’t help but to want to nuzzle closer to him. He was...warm.

30 seconds left

“Say something...”Sang hyun whispered again this time with a hidden sterness. Ji Eun exhaled and opened to speak but closed it again.

“Lets not meet like this anymore.” She pulled away from him, instantly feeling cold. Sang Hyun stayed silent. Ji Eun felt tears well up in her eyes before she gave a nervous laugh. Sang Hyun watched her intently, unsure of how to act.

10 seconds left

Sang Hyun placed his hand on her cheek and brought her closer.

“Maybe..you’re right.” He kissed her forehead. Ji Eun let her arms find their ways around him. The buzzer let out a screech to which the ahjussi slammed down with his fist.

“YAHH! That was beautiful!” He screamed at the two. A couple other trainees that had been watch joined in with him.

“You two should date!” One of the coordi-unnis grinned from the judging table.

“If they date then they can’t debut, pabo!” someone exclaimed.

Ji Eun stared up at Sanghyun, and used every ounce of her strength to pull away. She stared at the floor letting the chills run up spine. She looked around taking a step back from him. Sang hyun rubbed the back of his neck.

“This is awkward...” He whispered. Ji Eun nodded and walked away. After a couple of steps she looked back.

"See you around." She smiled before dissapearing into the crowd.
