You breathed in deeply and tried to convince yourself that everything would be okay. You were just a little nervous that’s all. You took in a deep breath and decided, you were going to be brave. You had gone along with the arranged marriage, and so now you were going to deal with what it entailed.

            You and Yongguk had hit it off marvelously after the first meeting. You spent a little more time with his cousin as a barrier but he paid close attention to you too. You knew Yongguk was a little shy and he tend to back off whenever he came too close, which was fine for you.

            Since then, the two of you had only held hands once and that had been out of pure necessity. You weren’t paying attention to the street lights and started walking when he grabbed your hand to pull you back. “Watch where you’re going,” he had scolded you lightly but all you could focus on was the feel of his warm hand in yours, his slim fingers gripping your hand tightly. Your heart pounded and then he let go.

            And now, you were sitting alone in the bridal room, waiting for your mother to come up and dress you in the gown she had picked. You nervously picked at your nails and that was when the makeup artists came in.

            They slapped your hands apart and hurriedly bustled around the room, searching for the makeup kit they had left. “Sit down,” they pushed you onto the seat. It took hours for them to work their magic on you and the entire time, you worried.

            The two of you got along well but because it was an arranged marriage, you felt like he was forced to marry you, out of his will. You weren’t anything special, and he, he was the perfect husband. He had everything that you could not believe could exist in one human being. It was like someone had taken all the best personality traits, all the best looks, all the morals and stuffed it into one person. And you, you couldn’t match up.

            You sighed a little and the women looked at you. “Thinking about your honey?”

            You winced a little, unused to having him referred as that. “Ah, a little.” Your cheeks burned and they smiled.

            “You will learn to love him. We’ve all met him. He’s a sweet guy.”

            You swallowed a little and tried really hard to make sure you didn’t go too crazy. You were overthinking the entire thing. You knew that you had made a mistake saying yes to him. You stood up, causing all the women to let out tiny screams.

            “I don’t think I can do this.” You told them honestly. They exchanged small smiles.

            “I think you are just suffering from nerves. Don’t worry too much about it, dear. He’s wonderful, and most importantly, so are you.”

            You shook your head, completely losing all your mentality. “I can’t do this. I’m going to go insane. Honestly. This is too much for me. He’s too perfect. Why did he even agree to this? We can always tell our mothers to find us other people. He’s going to find me incompetent.” You were spewing all your insecurities and one lady smiled and came over.

            “I’ll let you in on a little secret. He never had to agree with an arranged marriage in the first place.” She winked at you as your mouth fell open. You stared at her a little longer and she nudged you back to your seat and leaned down even closer to whisper, “It means, my dear, he’s quite taken with you.”

            You blushed and they all complimented how nice your skin tone looked. When it was time to do your hair and put on your dress, the two mothers came up, both nodding with approval. “I think this would work quite well.”

            You were shaking when the time came for you to be presented to Yongguk. You were still thinking about what the lady had said about his not having to agree to the marriage and your heart thumped. When you rounded the corner and saw him, standing by the end of the aisle, waiting in a black blazer, you nearly stopped walking.

            He was looking straight at you with a large smile on his handsome face. When your eyes met, he burst into a gummy laugh and you decided right then that if you could always make him laugh, your life would be complete.

            Yongguk reached out a hand to hold yours and you took it. Like the first time, his large hand covered yours perfectly and you felt safe by his side. The two of you exchanged your vows and then when he kissed you, he leaned in and asked for permission first.

            You nodded shyly and he tilted your chin up and pressed his lips against yours. The fireworks burst in your heart and when you pulled away, there was a large smile on your face. He placed his hand lightly against the small of your back and led you through the crowd of guests waiting to be received.

            The first dance was slightly awkward and the moment you were done, you broke contact and avoided looking at him. As the party went on, another anxiety hit you and you thought about what was about to ensue once the ceremony was over.

            Your mom took you upstairs to change into a lighter dress and the two of you were ushered out into a car. Once safely away, you didn’t look at him and he coughed nervously once or twice. Any confidence you had disappeared and once more, you couldn’t believe that he would want to marry you of all people.

            The car pulled up to the airport and Yongguk held out his hand. “Let’s go?”
