Jongup 45

B.A.P. Oneshots II

“What was one of the most nervous moments of your life?”

Jongup stared at the camera and saw the lights blinking. It has been a few years since he’s given an interview and the old rush of his B.A.P days hit him. He laughed a little, remembering how back in the day, he was known for being the weird one on camera and he always had Himchan to help him. But today, he was alone.

He took a deep breath and was interrupted by another question. “Before you answer, answer this please. How does it feel to be releasing another B.A.P album after ten years?”

“It feels fantastic. We were looking back in our old days and Yongguk-Hyung even tried to do the “One Shot” dance. He thinks he hurt his spine.”

The interviewer laughed. “In the last ten years all of you have built families and are you ready to come back into the music scene?”

“We never really left. We just sort of parted ways a little but now we’re back and it’s great. All our kids get along great.”

The person nodded. “Alright. What was one of the most nervous moments of your life?”

            Jongup laughed. “Yesterday.”

            “Yesterday?”

He nodded. “Yeah, I was teaching my daughter how to drive.”

“Oh, our viewers will like this. They like B.A.P daddies. Please do share.”

Jongup shifted in his seat and stared straight at the camera, completely in his element now. “Seolbi just turned sixteen and the moment her birthday came, she ran to me. “Appa! Teach me how to drive!” I had been promising her for some time now and so yesterday, she just ended school and I took her out.”

Jongup laughed as he remembered. “I took her in our truck and she was horrified. She wanted to go in the sports car but I wasn’t about to have her totaling it before she had her license. She got into the car and the first thing I taught her was how to use the accelerator and the brakes.”

“You’re not allowed to just slam on them randomly okay? That’s how accidents happen.”

Seolbi stuck out her tongue at him. “I got it, dad. So do I just move the transmission?”

He curled her hand over the knob and pulled it to drive for her. “Alright, ease slowly and make sure you look both ways as well. For now, keep both hands on the steering wheel. You don’t want to lose control.”

She nodded and slowly, they started to make their way around the large meadow Jongup had picked exclusively for the lesson. He watched her form and adjusted her back when she started to lean in too closely.

“You want to be able to look at the rearview mirror as well so don’t lean too forward. It makes you too focused. You want to have an almost omniscient view.”

She nodded again and bit her lip, suddenly slamming on the brakes. Jongup grabbed onto the handle. “What happened?”

“Daddy, there was a squirrel,” she whimpered. Jongup’s heart was beating wildly in his chest and he reached over to his daughter.

“Hey, hey, you avoided it didn’t you? Next time you just drive a little slower. You shouldn’t slam on the brakes so suddenly it causes friction and can be dangerous. What if you weren’t wearing seatbelts? You could have fallen out.”

She was shaking and he tucked her head under his chin. A whiff of her shampoo reached his nose and he teared slightly. Since when did his baby girl grow up to be this young woman? He patted her back and she sniffled and clutched his shirt the same way she used to when she came to him crying about the bully on the playground. She nestled her cheek on his chest and he smiled at the familiarity of it.

“Seolbi honey, do you want to go again?”

She shook her head. “Scared, daddy.” She pulled away and blinked at him. Jongup let out a tiny laugh. Although she was experimenting with eyeliner and the works, she was still the little girl who had ran in the house muddy after tumbling in the dirt with her brother. Her lower lip pouted and Jongup smiled.

“Get out and get to the passenger side. Let me show you how a pro does it.”

She giggled and crawled over his lap to squeeze herself into her seat. “Daddy, you can climb too!”

Jongup stuck out his tongue playfully and felt his heartbeat slowly return to normal. As long as she was fine, he was good. He scrambled over to the other side and eased the car back into drive. She watched him in utter fascination and he glanced over. “Learn from the best.”

When Jongup finished the story, the interviewer was teary. “Well, there you have it. This has been Moon Jongup from B.A.P. with his story of how he went from dancer to father and back again. I wish you all the best of luck on your new album.”

Jongup nodded and walked out. The next week when the interview came out, Seolbi flew at him. “Daaaaaaaaaad, you’re so corny,” she cringed.

Jongup grinned and kissed her forehead. “Mhm, now take your keys. We’re going back out there again.”
