Jongup 60

B.A.P. Oneshots II

Jongup sat there and watched her cry, not knowing what to say. He was utterly confused as to what had brought on this onslaught of tears. “Do you love me?” she asked. He stared at her a little longer and nodded.

“Of course. What’s bringing this on?”

She shuddered and stared at him suspiciously. “You brought it on.”

Now he was completely baffled. What had he ever done to make her think otherwise? “What did I do?”

“We’re not working, are we? You’re unhappy.” She was throwing all these accusations at him.

He shifted and looked at her, vulnerable as she laid there, tucked in by the large blanket they shared. He wiped her bangs away from her face. “Are you getting paranoid again?” It happened twice before when she would suddenly think she wasn’t good enough for him and that he didn’t want her.

She glared at him. “Why would you even think to call it paranoia when you know it’s true. I gave you everything I had but now you don’t want me anymore.”

Jongup stared at the ceiling. He wanted to reassure her, but over and over was getting tiring. Her bottom lip trembled. “It’s true,” she whispered and he cupped her face in his hands.

“No, it’s not. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I heard you in your sleep. I heard you saying that you didn’t want me. The other night, you said that you were tired of me. Please, tell me that’s not true.”

He blinked. “No, it’s not true. I don’t even remember dreaming that.” It was the truth. How could he possibly be dreaming something that he didn’t even feel? His eyes softened as he stared at her. “Honey, maybe you were imagining things.” He said it gently, knowing that any mention of her past psychological trauma would set her off again. It didn’t help.

She snapped at him. “So now you’re calling me crazy again. Fine, I get it. I’m paranoid, I imagine things, I’m a crazy monster. And you don’t love me anymore.” At the last statement, her anger dissolved again and once more, she was vulnerable.

Jongup hugged her and she started crying. “Please, just tell me that we’re not broken. I know these days I’ve been annoying you, but that’s just a slight bend in our love, right? It’s not that you no longer love me, right?” Her questions came out in a garble.

“We’re fine. We’re not broken. I promise. Your head’s just running wild. We’re fine.”

She shook her head. “Your nightmares tell me more than what you want me to know. I know how you feel. You no longer hug me while we sleep. You just lie there on your side, and I have to stay on my side, listening to you breathe evenly. But you never reach out to touch me.”

This was true. But it was really because Jongup always went to bed utterly exhausted. He wanted to show her he still loved her, but so many times, she would have her eyes closed and his only thought would be to sleep. “I’m sorry. I was tired.”

“We’re collecting dust,” she said quietly.

“No we’re not. I can fix it. I promise you.”

Wildly, she grabbed onto him again and clung on, not willing to let go. “Please, just give me a reason, just a little bit’s enough. We just need to learn to love again.”

“I never stopped,” Jongup told her simply.

She shook her head, not listening to him. “We can learn to love again,” she repeated over and over, each time, gaining more strength, more conviction. “It’s written in the stars that we were meant to be, so you can’t give up on me, no matter how annoying I get, okay?”

He chuckled a little. “I know, my love. And I haven’t given up. And you’re not annoying. You just need to have more self-confidence. That’s all.”

She nodded and placed her head on his chest, letting his even heartbeat calm her. It worked and she was able to hold onto him without strangling or hurting him. “As long as we’re not broken.”

“We’re not,” he reassured her. He her hair and she closed her eyes. Jongup observed her. She was so beautiful, but so fragile. He knew that he had to treat her better. If she ever got the impression that he stopped loving her, she would flip all over again. He touched her cheek gently and she let out a tiny sigh.

“I don’t want us to stop loving each other, okay?”

Jongup nodded. “Promise.” He held out his pinky for her to hook and this tiny action made her smile. She finally let go of him and slipped her head back on the pillow.

            “Love you.”
