The party

Vampires

"I gotta say. For being four hundred years old, I can pull of a tux better than any of these 21st century guys." Woohyun appraised himself looking into the full length mirror. He stood in one of the many rooms of the newly redecorated Seoul Manor, which had been empty for decades now. It stood on top of a hill, gazing down upon the worlds of what the earth had to offer. It's eyes saw all, it missed really little. A long time ago it was once home to immortals, monsters, at least, that was what people claimed, and people tend to understand really little of what they feared.

People were all similar in some way or another. They love to create claims about the things they fear, lacing their most feared with rumors that they made up themselves to somehow bring some sort of relief to themselves. Then before they themselves understood it, the rumors took on a life of itself. A snowball effect.

Hoya unconsciously chuckled in the the background. He didn't turn his back, his eyes facing the glass wall turned towards the open sky. Another perfect day, on the outside. The wind blew, graciously picking up stranded leaves of yellow, some a soft tone of orange and soft red were carried to another part of the ground. The birds flew high in the deep blue sky in perfect arrangement forming their perfect v-shape. If only life was that simple. "Conceited." He muttered unconsciously under his breath.

"I heard that." Woohyun shot back, his eyes quickly picking up on the silent mule standing on the other side of the room.

"You were intended to hear that." Hoya answered turning this shoulder to look towards the former. "So what exactly is this thing?" Hoya asked, he the was least interested but knowing Woohyun, he too will end up getting dragged along.

"Some sort of Party. It's an celebration for the upcoming fall season, I hear that mindless stuff like this are celebrated here. Four hundred years ago it was known as a celebration to the liberation of all immortal walking blood ers. Apparently the name's been changed, but there are still some that remember." Woohyun explained, a hit of sarcasm filled his tone.

"And yet, you seem so excited to go." Myungsoo cut in stepping into the room. A bored look pasted on his face.

"We're all going." Woohyun declared, ignoring Myungsoo's question, unpleasant stares from his sworn brothers were shot at him.

"Tell me Woohyun, why is it that whenever you decide to delight us into going to these events you managed to punch a hole in my empty chest?" Hoya shot up.

"Stop complaining and put on a tux. Maybe you can pull a tux off almost as good as me."
--

The sun was shining. Tenderly, it kissed every inch of the earth as well as the people in colorful flowing dresses swiftly walk along, each in their whole private world. The Fall Festival Party, a event meant to rejoice the new season. Seems like the seasons changed as fast as they came, much like people.

Unlike the people however, seasons knew their end, they understood that soon time will welcome them back into the universe. People, their humanity and their lifetimes were a mystery inside itself.

Naeun looked around. It was the typical faces of people she had known her whole life. Not much changed, not much involved in her seventeen years of living.

One thing however did change itself, three things actually. There in the middle of the busy town squared filled with the children running along as their contagious cries of joy filled the air. Adults and teenagers immersed amongst themselves as food was served on the side. Couples who were holding hand in hand dance away in the middle of the square as a band played above on a stage. The faint stream of the river down the hill could barely be heard.

Three smiles lit up the place, they were god-like, too beautiful to be looked at that one had to blink twice before soaking in onto their presence. Kim Myungsoo, Nam Woohyun, and Lee Hoya.

They were fake smiles however, she could pick that up easily, even through no one else could. Two of them were. Behind those smiles laid two young men desperately wanting to escape from the limelight and fall into the back. She couldn't help but wonder if they would rather prefer some isolated corner somewhere in the shadows of life.

"A drink." A hyper voice asked. She turned around, a smile lifted onto her face at the sight of Park Chorong.

"Thanks Chorongie."

"You seem....bored out of your mind." Chorong stated bluntly.

"No. I use to love it, when I was younger." Naeun replied. Chorong's mouth formed a perfect 'o'.

"Yeah, that is until one day you wake up and realize that the younger years were yesterday and today is all that matters."

"It's too bad. I miss those younger days. We were like all these kids running around. Blinded my our own stupidity, to exhausted from our fun to realize the inevitable truth. Life, it's gonna ." Naeun groaned, eyes falling towards the bundles of children playing.

"Life is also a beautiful thing. It breathes hope, faith, joy, love. Too bad people spend to much time concentrating on all the bad, all the pain. People like you Naeun. You see only the pain in life. Open your eyes girl. Life's not all broken glass and rainy nights." Chorong countered back with her perspective of things.

"Hm, maybe you're right." Naeun muttered under her breath.

"You know I am." Chorong countered hearing her friends hushed whispers. Naeun smiled back towards her friend. Chorong was a guiding light. The kind that watched over her friends.

It only took moments until Naeun's thoughts were shaken off as she found herself smiling and laughing with her friends.
--

Myungsoo sneaked a look towards Naeun. A smile lifted itself onto her porcelain skin. A genuine one, one of someone happy, at least for the moment. He understood that she often depended on her friends to lift her from her own personal hell.

"Come on, I need to get away from all this." Hoya whispered into his ear. The two walked side by side as Woohyun, the merrier of the three stayed.

"He's really loving it." Myungsoo admitted as both leaned against a table staring at their good friend.

"Let him enjoy it. We're not easily conversational people, being stuck with the two of us for four centuries must had been doing it's tow on the poor bastard." Hoya defended. Myungsoo couldn't help but grin to this remark. It was a fact, a clear fact, one both him and Hoya knew yet neither spoke off. Instead, they let Woohyun lose himself in humanity, at least for the time being.

"Ah, you guys came." A familiar voice broke their sight of concentration as the two pairs of eyes turned towards a certain beauty.
Myungsoo controlled himself not to choke as his eyes fell on her. A true beauty. Dressed in a strapless light pink dress, cut off right above her knees, her hair falling into cascades of soft curls reaching well past her shoulders.

"Couldn't help it. Some idiot decided to drag us along." Hoya replied back with all honestly. Eunji found his honestly amusing, many people weren't as honest. People often lied, Hoya wasn't that type.

"Well, I certainly hope getting dragged here wasn't a mistake by Woohyun-shi. After all, our Eunji here will be performing later tonight. " Chorong revealed. Eunji was sending draggers towards the former who revealing something she would rather keep a secret.

"Really? You sing, Eunji-shi." Hoya asked. He was actually bewildered, he always had a thing for singers.

"No. But apparently I'm told I can sing well." Eunji answered back with all modestly. Hoya chuckled at her remark. Did he mention he always had a thing for singers.
--

Naeun listened along as the heavenly voice filled the air. Her voice was clear and soothing, so angelic. The guitar harmonized everything, it matched perfectly with her voice, the voice only the angels could be blessed with. It was an genuine performance, one from her heart, one that touched the hearts of many. Naeun thought this one one of Eunji's best traits, her ability to connect with even the coldest of hearts.

Naeun sat, by herself at one of the side tables. The sky had grew dark, a deep tint of blue painted itself onto the sky. Only the tiniest bits of white shiny stars could be seen amongst all the flashy lights.

"She's really amazing." His voice called out to her. Shivers raced down Naeun`s spine, and she was unable to blink, unable to look away from him. His dark eyes piercing into hers as she instantly regretted moving her sight towards him. She couldn't help it through, he just drew her in. He was the darkest of sins, the sins that was so addictive it was difficult not to look away once drawn in.

"She really is." Naeun said the words spilling out from her lips. He helped himself, taking the empty seat next to her.

"He's mesmerized by her." Myungsoo spoke, his eyes indicating who in particular he was speaking of. Naeun followed his sight, eyes landing on a stone-cold Hoya standing on the other side of the square.

"Really?" Naeun asked. It was only her second meeting with the Hoya, but from those two meetings she saw that he was a hard one to crack. Right now however, he seemed more humanly than he had been in the last meetings. Maybe it was his eyes, but that look of pure admiration cause her a great shock.

"He's....intrigue. I can tell. She attracts him. I've known Hoya for a long time, and trust me, the boy rarely ever shows any interests into woman. Eunji's something special." Myungsoo spoke, his eyes fixed on Naeun while hers were still on Hoya.

"Then tell me Myungsoo-shi. What are you intrigue by?" She raised up raising a curious eyebrow.

"I can ask you the same." He shot back.

She paused for a second, piecing together a reasonable answer before replying. "I'm intrigue by those I don't understand. Those I do not know, those that would rather remain a mystery. Like you." She answered. Leaning back in his seat, Myungsoo exhaled until there was nothing left for her lungs to release.

"I can say the same about you Naeun-shi. Fascinate me. Do tell me something about Son Naeun."

"So you want me to tell you something about myself? I don’t have anything to say. Even if I did, you’d be wrong to believe me. Trust is a lie. Nobody ever knows anyone." Snapping at Naeun's smart remark, his sharp eyes blinked up.

"I can tell that you're honest. A little to honest for your own helping. You're blunt, yet you hide all your thoughts. You surround yourself with people like Eunji, because she she can always find a way to your heart. You want to be read and understood, examined by others, yet you remain a mystery to your own self. You need Chorong because you know in the back of your mind that she will save you from yourself. She will guide you out of your own self-made hell. Your Aunt Kahi. She's the only means of the old you. The kid you, the one who only understood butterflies and flowers. The kid who heard no evil, saw no evil, knew no evil. You surround yourself with people like that because you know you can not escape the biggest monster you know. Yourself. " Myungsoo spoke. His words lacing every emotion, every detail, every sense of objection or force Naeun put up only to be crushed down into ash. He was reading her like a open book.

Standing up from her chair in an anger, Naeun hissed. How dare he examine her like some science project, how dare he read her so easily."You know what.... first of all, you don't know me. Second of all, you don't know me! It was nice talking to you Myungsoo-shi." Naeun hissed stomping off. Myungsoo cracked open another smile.

She was adorable when she was upset. He didn't feel anything bad about what he just did. He knew he was correct, if not, why would she be so upset.

Son Naeun. The girl was sure something.
--

Eunji drew towards the back after her songs end. It was quieter now, the laugher of the kids were now gone as the dark grew. The tone of the music was all one could hear along with the conversed voices of the townspeople.

"Whoever told you that you could sing, a genius, a real genius." His deep voice appeared from ashes. Her head spun around in surprised shock. Stepping from the shadows of the dark, as if coming from no where he stepped out. Arms crossed and face directed towards her. She gulped.

"...Thanks." The only word she managed to speak. He didn't say anything, nor she. It grew quiet between the two. Real quiet. Yet their eyes never locked off each other. It was just the two of them. It wasn't awkward, no silent tension, just them.

"So," Eunji began finally finding her words again, "Still regret coming?" She asked with an amused grin.

"No." He replied almost instantly.

"Oh really?" Eunji asked with innocent smirk. "I wonder why?" She hummed with curiosity.

"I heard this girl sing. And my gosh, if the voices of angels didn't stop one dead in their tracks, the voice of Jung Eunji surely will." He answered. A wide smile appeared on her face. A beautiful white sparkly smile, one so mesmerizing angels could fall at its sight.

"Thank you, Hoya-shi."
--

Naeun sigh. Combing her fingers through her hair she stared down the at the water. The laughs of the townspeople could be heard from above. Seated along an wooden bench over looking the steam of water that flowed under she couldn't help but admit he was right.

She wasn't upset at Myungsoo. She didn't even know the guy. What got to her was how he could so easily read her like he was counting. Was she this easy to read?

After storming off on him she told Chorong she needed some air. Chorong didn't say anything, she simply nodded allowing Naeun the space to clear her mind.

"So you're also a loner." His amused voice was heard loud and clear. She didn't have to turn around to know who it was.

"Said by the person walking around alone at night." Naeun shock back.

"True." He mumbled taking a seat next to her. "Look, about before," He began but found himself cut off when Naeun spoke up.

"It's my fault, really. I overreacted. It's just, when a complete stranger is able to read you so easily, it makes one wonder, what does everyone else think?" Naeun brought up.

"Complete Stranger?" Myungsoo asked raising an eyebrow. "Clearly, you know more about me than you let on. So tell me, what do you know about me?"

"I got a better idea, how about you tell me something about yourself, something honest." Naeun asked. Myungsoo thought about his answer for a while. What honest truth could he tell her, oh and by the way I'm a 400 year old vampire, he thought with an amused smile.

"Name: Kim Myungsoo. Born on March 13. Occupation: High School Student." Myungsoo answered as blankly as possible. Naeun chewed her lips, clearly disappointed by this answer, of course he could answer as vague like always. It seemed as if every answer he gave her only caused half a dozen more questions to appear in her head.

"You really like to keep the mystery thing about yourself going, don't you?"

"What's the fun of just having me tell you when you can connect the puzzle piece by piece all by yourself? Or rather this, how about you ask. I'll answer any question you have."

Naeun sigh. Though she didn't like how bland he was, his way of understanding life certainly did interest her. "Ok then, Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome Stranger." Naeun answered.

"Any siblings?"

"Currently. None."

"Family?"

"Distant. Only members of the Kim family still residing in town."

"Parents?"

"Dead."

"Oh." Naeun's mouth dropped at this answer. She too, loss her parents years ago. The death of someone one loves certainly doesn't disappear easily. Their images stay, they remain and haunt you, remind you of loss things, of mistakes made, mindless arguments, laughter, a sense of belonging somewhere, with someone.

"They died a long time ago. I've learn to survive without them."

"My parents died years ago." Her words fleeing her lips, while her eyes remained scanning the water below.

"I know." He mumbled under his breath after a moment of silence.

"Well, you certainly know a lot for being new to town." Naeun brought up. Her attention focusing on Myungsoo. Naeun hated showing people a fragile side to herself. She had long learn to cast her pain of her parents death a side. Faking a smile was difficult at first. It took every wilt and strength in her to pull herself together to past the day. It got easier through, pretending. Naeun was fine with pretending, as long as it never consumed her.

"You know it gets easier. They say times heals everything, every broken bone, every heartbreak, it heals." Myungsoo spoke, his tone soft fragile.

"Does it really?" Naeun asked. Her eyes shifting from him towards the stars. They were brighter here. Away from all the lights. Yet they still remain so far away from her. They were sprinkles of light casting upon the heavens.

"Time does heal. But I prefer to remember the pain. Pain reminds me that I can feel something, it shows that I hurt and that I'm human." He muttered. In one swift motion his fingers claimed her chin bringing her sight onto him. His deep brown orbs piercing into hers. Naeun stared at his deep brown eyes of mystery. Just like him his eyes were a mystery. Cold and stiff with that touch of mystery that never seems to stop amusing her. Softness, tenderness, something so fragile in his soul was broken, never to be fixed. Love, compassion, strength.

"Never forget your parents. Every fight, every smile, every moment you had with them. Don't fight to release those moments. Moments like those are memories. And memories are way to precious to be forgotten."

"So, first he analyzes you, which I had to agree with, he was totally right on, then the two of you end up having a pleasant long decent conversation about your parents, life and whatever else." Chorong put two and two together. Her hands waving in the air as her voice filled with hysteria at what her friend had just told her. Naeun shyly nodded in agreement.

"I like his new guy." She blurted out in fickleness with a big goofy smile.
