“Jess, what’s wrong?!” Kris asked once the two of them were left alone the library.

“What’s wrong?! I feel as if I don’t belong here Kris!”

“What?! They’ve done nothing but welcome you!”

“Welcome my ! They are just being polite since they know I’m your FIANCE!”

“Watch your mouth Jessica. This is my family we’re talking about” Kris said dangerously.

Jessica calmed herself down but to no use. Tears fell from her eyes.

“Why do I feel like they want Seohyun to be your wife more than me?”

Kris’ eyes widened. He went to Jessica and he embraced her.

“Xu Xian is my best friend. We grew up together and they all know her since we were children. She has been… a part of this family. She was the granddaughter Nai Nai never had, the princess we all cherished, the daughter my parents wished for. It’s hard for them to just, you know. “

Jessica sobbed on his chest.

“What is she to you then Kris?”

Kris froze on his spot. His heart and mind were contrasting to one another.

She tied her long brown hair as she put on her jacket. Tears were evident in her eyes. He knew she was leaving him after those hurtful words he said. But he had no choice. His heart told him to stop her but his mind told him to stand his ground.

He watched as she pulled the door open, he waited as she paused for a while. Her head turned to him, eyes full of tears.

“What am I to you Kris?” Her voice full of doubt, regret and pain.

He looked deeply into her, trying to send her a message through his gaze but he failed. He looked down. He was a bad liar, but atleast, he should pretend.

“You’re Xu Xian. My bestfriend”

He watched as more tears fell from her eyes.

“Wu Yi Fan you jerk” She said as she pulled the ring from her fingers and threw it on the ground.

Jessica stared at him with her eyes. Waiting for his answer.

“She’s Xu Xian. My best friend”

She shouldn’t be listening. She shouldn’t be there. But she couldn’t help herself. She wanted to console Jessica for the Wu family’s behaviour but when she heard that she was the reason for the problem, she decided to just listen more.

“She’s Xu Xian. My best friend”

She closed her eyes. Preventing herself from crying.

“My bestfriend” She repeated as she walked lifelessly on the hallway.
