Summary: Junhyung and Hyuna share a meaningful moment as they wish each other a Happy New Year.

He isn’t supposed to be there, not really. And neither was she. But today was a special day defined by a distinctive moment that began and ended in less than a second—and they were determined to spend that moment together, come what may.

It was a matter they had discussed beforehand and they had agreed that it didn’t matter if they got scolded by the Supervisors; Hyuna wanted to be the very first one to wish Junhyung a happy new year and in turn Junhyung wanted to be the first one to hold her. 

So they wanted and so they did.

Hyuna had pretended that she needed to go to the bathroom and Junhyung had faked the loss of one of his rings. She needed to alleviate her bladder and he needed to get his ring back; so they were allowed out of their respective backstage rooms exactly 3 minutes before 12am and they met on one of MBC’s halls, which wasn’t completely deserted like they would have wanted but it would have to suffice.

Her eyes are gleaming and it reflects on Junhyung’s giddy smile, his eyes growing smaller and smaller by the second due to the width of his grin. They do a little countdown together, and as soon as the echo of fireworks and cheerful roars resound everywhere around them, Hyuna lets out a happy squeal of her own.

Happy New Year! She cheers, and Junhyung says it back, pulling her closer to him and into his arms, enveloping her in a crushing hug that Hyuna returns just as eagerly, still giggling merrily in his ears. The sound is contagious and so Junhyung ends up laughing as well, joy crackling within him like the sparks of a bonfire.

Their little moment is furtive, and out of place—but right then they can’t bring themselves to care. They’re where they’re supposed to be and with the person they want to be with; and that’s all that mattered, wasn’t it?

Aish, of course it is! - Is what Hyuna would’ve told him had Junhyung ever thought of voicing out his concerns, but since he doesn’t (he’s too caught up in her to think of anything else) she says something else instead, slightly pulling her face away from the crook of his neck for long enough to give him a happy grin.

“Aigoo I hope it’ll be still snowing when we finish here. Maybe we can even have one of those romantic walks under the snow, like in the movies!”

She’s half-joking, he knows. So Junhyung chuckles at her earnest enthusiasm and gives her a playful eye roll, his arms still circling her hips. “Aish, you’re the only weirdo who hates cold but still loves snow.”

Hyuna’s eyes are wide, happy and still shining so brightly that Junhyung didn’t feel like he was missing anything by not watching the fireworks outside. “It’s just, snow is soooooo pretty~! It’s like there are pieces of frosty cotton falling around everywhere~!”

She extends her arms and even jumps up a bit as she says ‘everywhere’, almost as if she were motioning an explosion of happiness, and Junhyung entwines his fingers together more firmly against the small of her back and pulls her closer to him to restrict her movements, grinning with amusement.

“As if. Snow is cold. And it doesn’t just fall, it piles up. I wish it’d stop falling already”

The comment earns him an entirely expected smack on the arm and he lets out an exclamation that it’s both a cry and laughter at the same time.

“You don’t mean that~!” Hyuna whines, and her cute pout is replaced by a grin as she holds her index right in front of his nose. “If the snow stops falling I would be very sad. You don’t want your lovely girlfriend to be sad, do you?” 

She gives him a blinding grin and Junhyung knows then that making her sad is the last thing he would want in the world. But she’s so cute that Junhyung just downright melts like a candy exposed to a fire and forsakes the idea of speaking altogether, because he’s sure that anything that came out of his lips at that very moment would end up embarrassing him later on. 

(what form did giddiness take when voiced out, anyway?)

So he uses his lips in an entirely different (and better, if you asked Hyuna) way and gives her a rewarding peck on the mouth, meeting her twinkling eyes with his bright ones and saying an Aish, you’re impossible that carried within it pure and unadulterated adoration. 

It earns a happy giggle from Hyuna (plus a shameless I know) who curls up contently against him, clasping her hands together across his back.

“We’ve had a good year, haven’t we, oppa?”

She asks against his chest, her lips above his heart. The organ seemed to be having a celebration inside of him, and he’s willing to bet that most of the people cheering outside would wish they felt half as happy and fulfilled as he did right there.

As they did right there.

He murmurs his agreement against her hair, and maybe it tickles her because he can discern a shiver running through her spine, making her slightly shake on his arms. Or maybe that was just part of the effect he had on her. The perfect fit for the effect she had on him.

Yeah, they definitely have had a good year. More than good in fact. Downright amazing even.

And, decides Junhyung, still contently immersed in his furtive moment with Hyuna, his chin resting atop of her head—

He would make sure 2011 is even better.
