{Jem's Point of View}

Lately my sleeping habits have been hectic. 

Between my editor and family on my case, plus the upcoming work deadlines I faced I simply had not time for rest. 

My only sanctuary was the coffee house two blocks fram my apartement. 

After meeting Kris, I started to go religiously on Fridys, Saturdays and occasionally a Sunday.

It was a silent agreement Kris and I had.

He let me stay awhile after closing to work as long as I let him read some of my stuff.

Perhaps he found my occupation as a writer facinsting or he simply loved to read, either way the extra feedback was welcomed.

One Saturday, I was on my way to the shop when I got a call from my friend Lena.

"Hey how's life Ms. Big-Shot writer." she teased.

I snorted "I'm good, how about you Ms. Foreign Exchange student?" I asked.

Lena was one of my closest friends, we always checked in on one another even with our busy lives.

"I'm great, actually I'm coming home for the holidays wanna hang out like old times?" she asked.

"I don't know if I can Lena, my editor's on my back again and my mom's trying to persuade me to move back home." I explained.

"Oh Jem, you can't avoid your family forever." Lena chided.

I sighed, "I know, but they just don't understand."

"Alright, so anything new other than that?" she asked.

"Nothing much, but I think I made a new friend a few weeks ago."

"Really?! Who? What? When? WHere?" she asked excitedly.

"JUst some guy who works at the cafe I go to, he lets me stay awhile after closing and he gives me feedback on my work," I replied.

"Is he hot?" she asked.

I nearly tripped on the sidewalk at my friend's comment.

I thought for a moment.

Kris wasn't bad looking actually, he had nice cheekbones and a good jawline, his eyes were a dark brown, almost black colour, he had hair that was light-brown (which he probably died) and he was tall.

Really tall, over 6 feet probably.

In other words he was really good looking.

"I guess he is," I replied nonchalantly.

Lena made some sort of sqealing noise on the other end of the line.

"You're so lucky Jem! I have no cute guys around me!"

"Okay Lena, when's you're flight?" I asked.

"Oho, changing the subject eh? Alright, I see you Jem. I'm arriving on the November 24th." She said.

"How about we got for lunch then?" I suggested.

"Korean food?" Lena asked.

I smiled, "You know it!"

"See you then! And Jem honey, please get some sleep once in a while." Lena said.

"I got it, bye."

"Bye."

It was raining really hard when I went to the cafe around 8 p.m.

Usually there would be quite a few customers but this time it was empty.

Kris was at the counter, resting his head in his hands.

I walked up the him, and flicked his forehead to snap him out of his reverie.

His eyes flickered eith slight confusion, but when he saw me he smiled.

"Hey kid." he said.

"Kid?! Who're you calling a kid?" I replied indignantly.

"Obviously not you, because there are so many children in this store," he said sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes at him.

I sat down on a stool across from him and pulled out the latest draft I was working on.

I handed it to him. Hea read it carefully.

When he was finished I looked at him expectantly. "Well, how was it?"

He paused momentarily trying to find the right words.

"It was good, but personally I don't like it."

I gaped at him."I'm sorry what?!" 

"I don't mean it's terrible, but this isn't what I imagined it to be like," He said.

"Didn't anyone ever tell you life's not always what you imagine it to be." I stated.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Did anyone ever tell you you're really blunt Jem?" He asked.

I bit my lip everyone I knew told me that.

"Yes why?" I replied cooly

He shook his head still smiling to himself "Just a question."

I felt happy knowing that I could make Kris smile.
