Final Exchange - new Level

Still affectionate

Dear Lord, what is this crap??? Are you sure love is supposed to hurt this much?? Jjong couldn't help but wonder after a sleepless night without Key. They parted yesterday in that strange atmosphere, leaving each other to their own thoughts...even though Jjong came to the conclusion, that that had not been the best idea. After dwelling over the fact that Key didn't really love him, doubting every vow he made to him, he got those crazy ideas...he just...wanted to run away for whatever time it took for him to get normal again. Gain some faith in his boyfriend. Which is totally out of character for Jjong. He would have loved to cuddle with Key all night and finally talk all of this out but NO, his hurt pride-driven self had to let him go home alone.

Now he was thinking his decision over on his way home from the gig with his band, praying that he won't meet Key there before he left for his part-time job again...he couldn't stand any sort of awkward atmosphere between them. Luckily, Key wasn't back from university around 3pm, which left Jjong some spare time to think of his apology...and how he would explain his decision to his lovely roommate. Oh man, COMPLICATIONS!!

He was indeed lucky. Not 5 minutes after he left, Key entered their shared apartment having done the final details on his work, wanting to present it to its destined owner as soon as possible. Yesterday's developments didn't leave him much time to present the actual cause of his late arrival, which is why he was more than eager to surprise Jjong with it today and also...well, KIND OF apologize with it. How he hoped this would work...but hey, the over-affectionate puppy loved such little surprises and Key was 100 percent sure this was going to smoother the lines again. Anyway, he was definitely going to apologize once more.

But, as fate would have it, the stupid dino wasn't home. Great...just great. Not necessary to point it out, but Key was annoyed. He wanted to get this over with as fast as possible (he maybe even missed his lover a bit, just MAYBE) but HE had to go to work. Not able to do much else, he sat down in the living room, a coke and a fashion magazine in hand, waiting. Waiting a LOT!!

After five reeeally long hours, Jjong finally came home. He was really exhausted from work, which didn't prevent the nervousness from spreading though. There he was, standing in front of his OWN home, trying to map out the following conversation to his best abilities, failing somewhat since he wasn't one to overly think of what he was saying. Should he apologize? Or rather act as though nothing had happened? No no, that was no option... Somehow, this didn't suit him, since he was more the type to state whatever came to his mind, speaking from his heart. But since Key was special...how should he deal with this?

Greeting the old Lady from the flat above theirs he tried to collect his thoughts, taking a deep breath and entering their apartment. He left the key at its usual spot by the door, getting rid of his shoes nervously. Is he even home?? What if I'll have to wait for him? Should I prepare dinner or rather-

His thoughts got interrupted by Key's voice coming from the living room. "Jjong?" He didn't notice how the diva's voice shook slightly as Key entered the hall, greeting him with an exceptionally worrying sight as he had traces of dark circles under his eyes. It seemed he hadn't gotten much sleep either...

"Hey." Biting his lip Jjong smiled weakly. "I'm home."

"Welcome home." they exchanged formal greetings. "How was your day?"

Well, good he wasn't awkward with him, right? Yeah. So he wasn't planning to either.

"Nothing special." Naturally, he went over to plant an affectionate feather light peck to Key's cheek. "Yours?"

"Fine. I finished my art project today." He sounded really proud. Oh well, wasn't he adorable like that... Jjong couldn't help but smile despite the heavy feeling weighing his heart down.

"Congratulations. You have to show me, alright?"

"Yes. Definitely!"

Jjong's affection-laced tone, so characteristic of him, made Key shiver lightly, relieve washing over him, of course not going unnoticed. The musician took the feline boys hand and led him to their living room, Key obviously delighted at the touch.

As Jjong sat him down on the couch, taking a seat right next to him, he internally prepared for what he was going to announce. .........., this is difficult.

"Key, I have to tell you something."

"... yeah?" He looked at him, his glance...slightly scared. Jjong locked gazes with him, trying to find the right words. At his reaction, he chuckled.

"Aish, don't look like that, it's nothing serious." He tried to smile reassuringly, hoping to calm Key's features a bit. His smile got returned, just as fragile as his own. "Okay..."

Looking for a trace of help in Key's gaze which would give him strength for what he was going to do, he started. "It's..." He squeezed his hand lightly, affectionately. "I'm sorry. I should have listened to you yesterday! I couldn't sleep all night, hell I was sooo guilty. I just wanted to hold you and talk to you and I missed you so much. But thinking all night..." After his outburst he looked at Key again, staring into his dark, baseless orbs... Deciding to just get it over with, he got straight to the point.

"I'm going to spend the next few days at my fathers. Uhm, alone..."

Exhaling quite dramatically, Key let out a breath he was holding this entire speech. "And that's not serious for you?" He tried a smile. "You're not the one to be sorry, Jjong. I am! I'm such an idiot. And superficial. And a workaholic. And stupid." He laughed bitterly. Was he getting his point across? "I'm so terribly sorry that I forgot. I know how important she is for you, your mother I mean!!" How he hoped ignoring his statement about leaving for the moment would distract him from that idea.

Seems like it worked with Jjong squeezing his hands, getting his attention. "You know, it's ok for you to have other important things in your life. Just because you mean the world to me doesn't inquire it has to be the same for you. I know I'm important for you somehow, so...that's enough to me." His smile seemed genuine this time. Jjong had come to the conclusion, that he was so lucky to have Key by his side, that it didn't matter when he stepped back behind Key's beloved art once in a while. And that's why-

"You ARE important! You're the most important, even though I may not seem like that. ... But you're the only one I have!! And we're already together for 2 years." His happy smiled brightened the whole room...the cutest blush adorning his cheeks. "I love you."

Isn't he adorable? INCREDIBLY adorable?? Jjong's smile spread to an unimaginable amount. "Yah, are you drunk?" He chuckled. "You're way too romantic to be sober right now." Amused, he pecked his diva's lips.

"No."

There it was again, Key's smile. "I'm just so happy that you aren't angry at me anymore. And that I finally finished my project."

Jjong didn't even realize how all the tension slowly but steadily left his body. They talked, which was good, but they also gained that bubbly fluffy lovers-atmosphere again, which made both of them much more comfortable around each other. At the mention of Key's project, Jjong felt worry rise inside him again, replacing the last bit of anxiety he might have felt.

"Aww, are you exhausted?" As he reached over to run his fingers through his beloveds hair, his eyes told Key all the emotions he wouldn't express through words. The love...the relieve...the concern...everything.

Key shook his head in response. "Nope. You want to see??" He was really excited about this, worrying whether he'd like it or not because honestly, when he got the task for this project, he immediately thought of Jonghyun. He overworked himself for that surprise and he was finally going to give it to him.

As Jjong send him one of his heartwarming smiles accompanied by a cute "Sure." he stood up and left the room. Wow, now his heart started beating like crazy. How would he react? He got to his schoolbag (you know, those bags the cool kids used, personalized for Key's purposes) searching for the two identical objects. It was cheesy and suggestive, but he still thought it suited them best. Them and their relationship.

Both objects in his pocket, wide smile plastered on his face, he came back, sitting down again. Jjong had sat back, crossing his legs, waiting like the cutest puppy ever...it's magic you know. Seeing the person you love from the bottom of your heart wait for you with such a cute look, welcoming you with the sweetest voice ever.

"Welcome back yeobo~" Bouncing on the couch, Key looked at his boyfriend.

"You remember what topic we had?" At that, Jjong chuckled.

"You didn't stop talking about it. You had to deal with connections right?

"Right." He nodded, smile still huge on his lips. "Guess what I made!"

Whoa, it would be so romantic if he got it right on the first try... Awwww! Can you be anymore cute, swaying left to right while thinking right now, humming in that sweet tune.... Key melted right there at the sight.

"I have noooo idea." That..was...to be expected.......well, never mind.

"Okay." Key exclaimed, bouncing again in excitement. "Close your eyes." Jjong grinned, lips stretching.

"Yeees." Doing as being told, he folded his hands in his lap, waiting for further instructions. "What is it???"

Now the moment of truth had come. Taking out Jjong's present he reached over to him, opening his palm and placing the small round object in his hand. He was impatient like always, jumping lightly at the touch.

"Ke~y? Can I open my eyes now??"

"Yes." he grinned happily, watching his reaction closely.

Anticipating whatever masterpiece Key created there, Jjong peered one eye open, glancing at his palm. Realizing what he saw there, his eyes widened considerably. "Waah~" He held the detailed ring up, twisting the metal to inspect it from every angle. Yep, Key made them both identical rings, paying special attention to engrave both their initials into the inside.

"It's so..." He was rendered speechless, gaze melting along with his heart. This was...so....GOOD!!! Just like Jjong, Key melted right there. The surprise seemed to be a success.

"You like it? <3"

A lovely smile grew on Jjong features. "Key, I don't just like it. I LOVE IT!!" and with that, it was his time to surprise Key by placing the ring securely on the coffee table and leaning over to kiss him passionately, hovering over the boy. "You are SO talented. <33"

Naturally, he responded to the kiss, proud at the compliment. "It's yours. <3" They overflowed with hearts and love, waves of affection radiating from them, filling the room. But, Jjong looked stunned. "Why is it mine? Don't you still need it?" He looked innocently confused, quite adorable.

Key responded by cutely shaking his head. "I finished it earlier so that my professor could mark it already. I wanted to give it to you." Honestly, I couldn't wait to see your reaction. "And I still have this one." he explained, getting the second ring out of his pocket.

He watched Jjong blink several times, features softening. "I bet you got first-class grades on that." Gently he fixed Key's hand next to his head on the couch, kissing him lovingly. Pinned down under his boyfriend, the feline boy felt Jjong smile like an idiot against his lips, own heart growing hot in his chest. Kissing back he couldn't help but crave for more of the soft touch of skin against skin.

Fingers caressing him gently, Key felt his boyfriend take the ring from his grasp, sitting back on his thighs. Blushing at the sight, Key got up. Well, isn't this embarrassing... With Jjong still on his lap, he kept staring into his eyes, blushing even more at a sudden thought coming to his mind.

Eyes all soft he breathed "I love you" to this person, opening up one more time. At that, the oh-so-infamous derp-smile of Jjong's spread on his lips, an affectionate "I love you too <3" leaving them. Gently, he took his left hand, even more gently parting his fingers, sliding between them in a soft touch. "I don't know how I could ever be angry at you, my princess." Key's eyes watched him closely as he moved the ring close to his ring finger. Oh god, is he really going to...?

Kind of ceremoniously Jjong slipped the ring onto his finger, eyes sincere. "I love you so much, Kim Kibum."

A crimson red crept on Key's cheeks as he unconsciously brought his second hand up to cover his mouth. "I...I love you so much as well <3" He couldn't even explain how much he actually really loved this man, transmitting part of his feelings through a breathtakingly tight embrace. It just felt so good being held for several minutes, indulging in the warmth of the other.

Finally, Jjong broke the comfortable silence, whispering "I missed you the last days." Nestling into the crook of Key's neck, he sighed content.

"Me too." came the muffled answer from Key, backing off as he remembered the abandoned ring on the table. Picking it up and hesitantly taking Jjong's hand he looked at him. It was kind of a strong vow they were exchanging here...did his Love really want to seal it here and now? Was he sure?

A light chuckle answered his questions. " 'Yes, I do.' " and with that, he pecked Key's lips, biting down a smile. Oh my, this was cheesy, and he couldn't help but blush impossibly more. Getting encouraged by Jjong he slipped the ring on the others finger, covering his face right after. Oh my ing god, could it get any more embarrassing???

Fortunately Jjong was just as sheepish. "Bummi~" he heard the whine from his boyfriend in his lap, feeling him cup his hands and softly rub them. "You should meet my father." Ehm, what??? "Would you accompany me tomorrow?" He's smiling, isn't he? Is he seriously suggesting to finally introduce me to his father? S-seriously??

Getting over his embarrassment, Key put his hands down, making sure his face was still covered by his bangs. Finally, after what seemed like minutes, he answered with a tiny, shy nod, setting their first serious encounter with Jjong's parents just like that. It triggered an incredible burning inside Jjong's chest, an overflow of Love for this person, who he was so angry at just yesterday...that cute, adorable diva, perfection in flesh...

"Thank you." Both his hands reached up to cup his cheeks, lifting his head to gently kiss him again, cold metal of the ring pressing against the boys skin. Closing his eyes, Key's hands automatically found their way up into Jjong's hair, sighing into the kiss. It was incredible and exciting but with that action, they brought their relationship to an entire new level, securing both their feelings with the symbolic connection made: wedding rings.
