I don’t understand.

That fateful night the car was stalled

I don't understand. We were safe. I pulled you out of that car with me…  and we were safe. We were together. Why did you run back? What was so important that had to be saved?

I don't understand. They said they found my class ring in your fist… the one I gave you after I went away to university. You were playing with it, taking it on and off because it was slightly too big for your slender fingers… is that why you went back?

What was it you were looking for
that took your life that night
They said they found my high school ring
clutched in your fingers tight

 

 I don’t understand. I was here… I was going to give you a new ring…the one in the velvet box, that hard bump you kept feeling in my coat pocket that night. We were supposed to be forever. It was a promise ring, a promise to never let you go, to never forget you.

I don't understand. It’s been a week. Without you, every day is a thousand years. I saw you for the last time today. I’ve never seen you so still. You were so peaceful, as if you’d wake up any second. But you never did.

Just sweet sixteen, and now you're gone
They've taken you away.
I'll never kiss your lips again
They buried you today

 

I don't understand. An angel… When I called you my teen angel, this isn’t what I wanted. This isn’t what I planned. You were supposed to be by my side, always. Angels don’t leave. They don’t forget. Taemin, will you remember me? Now that you’re an angel, will you still love me? I will. Always…my teen angel.

Chapter 1: I read the sequel about ten minutes ago before I found this. When I did I burst into tears just on the description. it continued as a steady stream for the duration of the reading. Then I found this and it started again. I don't understand what it is about this that hits me so hard. I never cry, but there are tears falling on my pillow. What.

Chapter 1: I feel like a doof for not knowing you had started posting your stories and so here I am, late, but here because I really did want to read them, and woah, this just broke my heart. ;-;

So I listened to the song, because I feel if the author intended me to hear a song while reading their fic, I should listen to the song and wow, that provided the perfect backdrop of sadness. This was so heartbreaking. Everything about this was so magnificently heartbreaking. It was short, but it got across all of the emotions of melancholy to just pure sadness in the perfect progression. From a literary perspective, I adored your repetition of 'I don't understand...' because it really helped to show how Minho is coping, or the lack thereof of coping on his part. He's so broken over this, and his only closure is in the fact that he doesn't understand it. He doesn't understand any of it, because in the forward he seems to think their safe. And while he never explicitly says it, clearly he blames himself for letting Tae go back. Another thing you did amazingly was portraying his emotions without saying too much. In the subtleness of the writing, so much more is said. From a readers perspective, the story was just so sad. So much sadness and the way you built from them playing around in the car, to Minho's almost promise proposal, to past the funeral and the burying, and eventually to his musings on the nickname just really beats in the depressing aspect of the story. The part with the most impact in my opinion is the very end though, when Minho says that he never meant for Taemin to be his 'teen angel' in the sense that he is now. And then the lyrics following just ended the story on the right note. I loved this, you're writing is incredible and your incorporation of song and story were flawless.
