"I'm Baekhyun."

Seven Days.

Jade was awakened around 4 AM (not long after she’d fallen back asleep) by something, or someone, banging on her front door. She groaned and rolled over to look at her clock, seeing the time, and sat up. She rubbed her eyes. Who could that be? Kyungsoo? No, he would call if there was some emergency. Natasha? No. She wasn’t one to be up at this hour, let alone wake someone else up at this hour.

Jade walked into the living room, passed a sleeping (and slightly snoring) Chanyeol, and to the front door. How could that boy sleep through the noise? She frowned and unlocked her door, opening it without even thinking of looking through the peephole in the door. As she opened the door, a hand stayed in place in the air; it was about to knock on the door again. Jade blinked at the boy before her. He was a few inches taller than her, had brown hair that was a bit messed up at the moment. He lowered his hand. “Lee Jang Mi?” he asked her. Jade’s eyes widened. No one except for Kyungsoo knew that name around here. Rarely anyone at home even called her that name. So how did this stranger know her real name?

“Who are you?” she asked, eyeing him. He smiled brightly.

          “I’m Baekhyun.”

Jade’s eyes widened again and she quickly glanced back towards the dark living room. There was no movement. She made Baekhyun move back and she stepped outside of her apartment and quietly shut the door. “You’re here for Chanyeol, right?” she asked, taking a step away from her door. He nodded. She kept observing him. This was the infamous Bacon that Chanyeol had gone on and on about. But he was actually here now, in front of her. Why exactly? “Why?”

“I need to speak to Chanyeol.”

          “At 4 AM?”

“Oh,” he said, looking down a moment before looking back at Jade and scratching the back of his head. “Yeah, it wasn’t 4 AM when I left. Sorry about that. But I really need to speak with Chanyeol. It’s urgent!” Jade yawned while covering . If it was urgent, she decided she could let him in and wake up the sleeping Chanyeol. She turned to her door, opened it, and motioned for Baekhyun to walk inside.

“Go on,” she told him. “He’ll be excited to see you, I’m sure.” Baekhyun smiled and walked inside her dark apartment. Once she stepped inside, she noticed a light, but not coming from any of her lights. It was coming from Baekhyun as he walked into the living room to find Chanyeol. Jade stared after him in amazement. She slowly followed, watching as Baekhyun found Chanyeol and shook him with one hand, while shining the bright light on him with the other. Chanyeol groaned and turned away.

“Yah! Yeollie!” Baekhyun finally yelled. Jade leaned against the wall, watching intently. Chanyeol raised up instantly, eyes wide.

“BAEKHYUN!” Chanyeol yelled, a wide smile appearing on his face. Baekhyun returned the smile before Chanyeol got up and hugged the boy, the light disappearing. Jade walked over and flipped a switch, turning the main light on. The boys stopped hugging and Chanyeol looked at Jade. “Jade! This is my best friend! Baekhyun!” Jade couldn’t help but chuckle at Chanyeol’s actions. He really was a giant kid.

“I know. We met,” she told him. Baekhyun nodded and looked at Chanyeol.

“We need to talk,” he said to Chanyeol, face stern and his voice serious. Chanyeol’s smile faded. They both sat down and Jade walked into the kitchen. She decided to make tea. Tea always helped and was a polite gesture in England. She did everything quietly, hoping to hear bits of the conversation without actually being caught. She wanted to act as if she was disinterested when in fact, she was really interested. She knew Chanyeol had an important decision to make, but Baekhyun said his visit was urgent. But how did he even find Chanyeol? She looked up at the ceiling and then at the floor. Could the Gods and Goddesses really see things? That sent a chill down her spine. She looked at her tea; it was steaming now.

And as much as Jade struggled to listen into the deep conversation between the two boys, she realized the language wasn’t recognizable. She hated not knowing what the two were discussing. Was their conversation so private that they couldn't speak in English?

“I told you, and them, a million times that I’m turning human! You know I can’t stand that place… the people are rude, conceited and play with humans like toys. Besides, humans are much more interesting. I’m basically-“

“Yeol. You don’t realize the consequences of becoming a full human. You don’t realize-“

          “I’ve read stuff.”

          “Not everything.”

“Lay is in the same position as me. Is he getting scolded, too?”

There was a pause. Jade hesitantly picked up the tray that the tea was on and slowly walked out of the kitchen and towards the living room just feet away. She saw the two, Baekhyun running his hand through his hair and Chanyeol watching him. Chanyeol looked up at Jade and smiled halfheartedly. She hadn’t heard much, but she sensed something else was said and it changed the atmosphere in the room. “I made tea. If you want some,” she told them, setting the tray on the coffee table in front of them. Both boys gave her faint smiles and reached for the cups. “I need an explanation.” Baekhyun looked at her, cup almost to his mouth; he lowered it.

          “Jang Mi-“

“Whoa,” Chanyeol interrupted, “so that’s your Korean name?” How did he manage to make the subject of her name seem so interesting? Before she could even roll her eyes, Baekhyun cut in.

“Sorry for Chanyeol putting a burden on you,” Baekhyun went on, smiling slightly. “He knew better than to come to Earth and stay with someone and-“

“I can apologize on my own,” Chanyeol said, frowning. “I was going to thank her for everything when I left.” Baekhyun set his cup down and let out a breath. Jade was secretly admiring both boys. How could two boys be so good-looking? Maybe the fact that they were Gods had something to do with it. But Chanyeol was half human, so.. maybe it was just genes. Either way, the two boys were good-looking. And for a moment, Jade felt insecure as she sat there.

“Has Chanyeol explained what is going on and why he is staying with you?”

“He’s hiding from his parents and becoming a full God.”

Baekhyun looked at Chanyeol. “You could have always lied. Did you have to bring someone fully into this?” Chanyeol shrugged. Jade clasped her hands together, a bit nervous still, and looked down at her hands briefly before returning her focus on the two. “It’s alright,” she told Baekhyun. “I didn’t believe him anyways.”

Baekhyun looked at her and laughed gently, nodding a bit at her statement. “I’m surprised you didn’t have a heart attack or report him. We had someone do this before and they did exactly that. Everyone knows better than to travel to Earth and confront humans about this stuff.” Baekhyun elbowed Chanyeol in his side; Chanyeol’s tea shook in his hand, spilling drops onto his jeans. Jade cracked a smile for a second. She could imagine Chanyeol telling someone and them having a heart attack and him freaking out. She tried not to laugh aloud and make the two assume she had gone crazy.

“So, do I have to talk to them now?” Chanyeol asked Baekhyun, drawing attention to himself. Jisook hopped up on Jade’s lap, which surprised Jade. She blinked and slowly placed her hand on Jisook as the cat lay down in her lap, purring. Jade began petting her as Baekhyun let out a sigh. Jisook sensed something was going on and sent mental message to Chanyeol; they were ignored for once.

“It’s for the best.” Jade was confused, but assumed they meant Chanyeol had to go back to wherever he was from. That’s was the reason for Baekhyun’s arrival. A part of Jade was relieved of this. She had waited what seemed like forever for the tall boy to leave her life for good. She could stand, throw her arms in the air and yell “finally!” But deep down, she was a bit sad. He had grown on her. But she pushed that feeling away as she looked at Jisook while listening to the two boys discuss his leaving. This was the most calm she had ever seen Chanyeol.

After minutes of one and off chatter between the two, sighs from Baekhyun, and the purring of Jisook, Baekhyun finally stood up. Jade looked at him and then at Chanyeol, whose face had fallen from his normal smiling state, to a state of unreadable emotions. She looked back at Baekhyun, who then looked at her. “It was nice to meet you, Jade.” Jade reached out a hand for him to shake, but instead, he grabbed her hand and pulled her up, hugging her. “I’ll send you something as an explanation to something. And please.. keep Jisook near now.” Baekhyun had whispered the last bit, before pulling away and smiling down at her. He nodded once, confirming what he said. Jade smiled in return and he walked past her. What?  She wanted to ask Baekhyun a thousand questions just for his simple comment over Jisook, but she didn’t. She restrained herself entirely. “I’ll be outside, waiting, Yeollie.” She heard the door shut. Jade looked down at Chanyeol, who stood, still towering over her as always, and he forced a smile.

“I’ll see you, probably,” Chanyeol told her. “Thanks for letting me stay here.. and the food.” He looked over at Jisook, who was now sleeping on the couch. “Thank you, Jisookie, for being my friend.” For some reason, Jade’s heart tugged at that statement. She knew she hadn’t been the nicest to him. Hell, she even caused a scene in a café with her yelling. And lied to him and made him get injured. But the sudden realization that Jisook had probably been nicer – a lot in fact - and the other fact that Jisook was a cat.. it hurt Jade slightly. But Chanyeol was such a bother, she thought, she couldn’t help but get agitated at his annoying actions. Anyone in her position would feel that way.

“Yeah,” she said, “I’ll see you if you become human. It won’t be hard to miss you anywhere. You’re so tall.  And that hair sticks out like a sore thumb.” He smiled (even though the whole sore thumb thing just threw him into confusion once again). “You better go before Bacon gets mad for waiting so long.”

“He won’t,” Chanyeol said, chuckling. “He’s not one to get mad easily. He just acts tough. He’s not. He’s squishy.” Jade let out a laugh. “Oh, hey. Can I show you something though? I was meaning to.” He was now smiling, as usual, but it didn’t necessarily annoy Jade now. Maybe because he was about to leave. She nodded. He grabbed her hand and began dragging her out of the apartment. He had a limited time span to show her this and he was excited. And, surprisingly, Jade was, too. Whatever was going to happen that is.

The three stood on the roof of the apartment building. The sun was beginning to rise in the distance, which made a beautiful scenery with the amazing shades of orange and pink. Jade loved this. She hadn’t seen a sunrise since she was little.

“You seemed fascinated with this stuff for a moment, so…” Chanyeol went towards the edge of the building and turned to face Jade and Baekhyun.

“It’s really cool,” Baekhyun whispered to her, after he realized what Chanyeol was going to show Jade. “Too bad he’s going to give it up.” Jade was confused. Confusion could explain the past week perfectly. Confusion explained Baekhyun’s words to her.

Chanyeol was focusing on using his power, which left his face in a serious state. He lifted his right arm in the air slightly and within a few seconds a flame appeared behind him. It was some sort of creature with wings, but Jade couldn’t identify it. She stood there, as Chanyeol looked at her, smiling his wide, goofy smile. “Wah!” she exclaimed, staring in disbelief. It this didn’t entirely convince her that everything Chanyeol had said was true, what else could? She had already witnessed Baekhyun’s powers, but passed it off as a hallucination. Maybe it still was one. The flame disappeared and Chanyeol gave a smile. But the smile was sad.

          “Cool, huh?”

Jade just blinked with the look of awe still on her face as Chanyeol approached them once again. “Yeah.”

There was an awkward silence. “I hate to be rude, but we have to go. Time’s wasting here.” Baekhyun patted Chanyeol’s shoulder and looked at Jade apologetically. “And remember what I said,” he told her. She nodded once. Chanyeol reached out a hand for Jade to shake, and for an unexplainable reason, Jade stepped forward and hugged the boy. He gladly hugged her back and Baekhyun watched. He felt awkward standing there. But that moment went away when Chanyeol and Jade said their goodbyes and Baekhyun and Chanyeol disappeared into thin air. Jade stood there, staring out into the distance, watching the sunrise. It was beautiful.

She was relieved. But sad. She admitted to herself once he vanished from her world, that she would miss him. He brought laughter into her dull world. He brought the unexpected into it, too. That would never come back. And as that sank in, she decided to walk back to her apartment and go back to sleep before she started her day officially. She had things to do, work that needed done, and exams to study for.

As she lay in bed, trying to go back to sleep, she hugged her stuffed rabbit. Maybe she should have done something.. something to keep a memory of him. But she wanted him gone, why would she want a memory of him left behind? No, she didn’t like him. Nor did she love him. It wasn’t that. It was like she had gained a new friend, one whose impression just couldn’t fade overnight. The second she realized it would take her quite a while to forget about that goofy idiot, she frowned. She didn’t like that. She could usually forget people who disappeared from her life.

And instead of falling asleep, she laid there for what felt like an eternity. Groaning, she got up and went to find her laptop before she moved back to her bed. She googled Hades again. And everything like that. Maybe Chanyeol was somewhere in this mess of Greek and Roman mythology that had all been a part of this. Maybe his name was casually linked under Hades'.

Soon enough, she put her laptop away and drifted off to sleep. But what she found in her dreams was anything but a great dream..
