“I was so hurt and felt so stupid. I should have seen this coming. The way he held her hand, only talking to her, and not really caring whether or not I stayed to talk with them,” Minzy said starring off into space.

Bom leaned her head onto Minzy’s lap saying, “I’m sorry mommy.” Bom felt bad for asking her mom to remember such bad thoughts and began to cry.

Minzy pulled Bom into an embrace saying, “Aww…” Minzy held Bom tight saying, “No sweetie I’m sorry for acting upset. It’s not your fault. It’s my fault.” She sat Bom beside her and wiped at her tears saying, “I promise I won’t get mad anymore honey. It gets better.

”Bom looked to her mom saying, “Really?!” She then reached for her notebook saying, “Okay you can continue.”

Minzy smiled to herself at how fast Bom’s facial expression had changed and said, “Okay. Well I was home in no time and drank the night away. The next day I woke up with a big headache. I decided to go to work that day to take my mind off of what had happened. When I walked in my boss greeted me and asked if I could come into his office. He asked if I could be the head lawyer of his friend’s business. He trusted my judgment and felt I was the right person for the job. I was so touched and honored that he felt that way and accepted the offer. He handed me some files and I thanked him. As I was about to leave he stopped me and told me that he wasn’t finished. I apologized and sat back down. My boss told me if I handle his friend’s business well he would offer me a partnership for the law firm.”

“What? That sounds like a big deal,” Bom said.

Minzy nodded her head saying, “Oh it was! I was so happy that I wanted to cry. But I held back the tears and shook my boss’ hand. I then left to my office and cried tears of joy. After I had pulled myself together I read through the files that my boss gave me. I would get to meet the vice president of the company in a week’s time and decided to start right way. My job was to know the company policies inside and out. So if ever they were to be sued I would represent them in court.”

“Wow that’s a big job,” Bom said.

“Yeah it was. Well the day came to meet the vice president and I set up the appointment with his secretary for him to meet me in my office at 1 pm. I turned my chair to face out the window and took a deep breath I was so nervous. This project was a huge deal and I didn’t want to mess anything up. My secretary called and told me that the vice president was there. I told her to let him in and I still kept looking out the window. I whispered a silent prayer for me not to mess up on this huge project. I heard the door open and then someone walked in. I acted like I was still looking through some files and told the vice president to have a seat in front of my desk. The vice president didn’t say anything and I heard him sit in the chair in front of my desk. I took a deep breath and put a big smile on my face before turning around. I set the files on my desk and said hi my name is… My smile faded away when I saw who the vice president was,” Minzy stopped shaking her head.

“Who was it mom,” Bom asked.

Minzy sighed at the memory saying, “It was John.”

“JOHN?! The one you were waiting for, for all those years,” Bom squealed.

Minzy nodded her head saying, “I couldn’t even finish my sentence. He looked the same from when I last saw him, only this time he was wearing a suit. I was shocked to see him after all those years of waiting for him. But then I remembered where I was at and greeted him professionally by saying I was Ms. Minzy. He greeted me back professionally saying his name was Mr. John and it looked like he didn’t recognize me. I was a little hurt, but then again I wasn’t sure if he could still remember me after all those years. We discussed all the details of what I would be doing for his company and then we set up a date for me to come for a tour of the business. After the meeting was over I shook his hand and thanked him for coming in. He also thanked me and then left.”

“WHAT? He left? He didn’t say anything like how have you been over the past years,” Bom asked.

Minzy laughed, “That’s what I was asking myself when he left my office. I was in disbelief of what had just happened and decided to eat out for lunch instead of staying at the office. I walked out to my car when I heard someone call my name. I looked to see it was John. I was so nervous but played it off by asking Mr. John if there were any last minute things to the file he would like to discuss. He looked a little confused at first and then asked if we could discuss it over lunch. I wanted to say no, but the project was too important to me and I accepted the offer. He asked if I wanted to ride in his car and I told him that I could drive myself. He nodded and I followed his car out to a nice restaurant. When we were seated I quickly asked him what he wanted to discuss. He laughed and then the waiter came by with menus. Before he could say something I quickly picked up my menu and pretended to look for what I wanted to eat. His laughing suddenly stopped and he went really quiet. I peeked over my menu to see his face very serious. I asked him what was the matter and he pointed to my hand. I looked to see that I was still wearing my engagement ring. I had gotten used to wearing it that it was more of a habit to have it on. I figured that this was my way to show John that I had done something with my life. I cleared my throat and told him that I was engaged. I then quickly changed the subject to business. But he cut me off and asked me who the guy was. I was upset that he would ask such a question. I calmly told him that I would like to keep the lunch as professional as possible and that I didn’t like discussing my personal life on the job. He looked at me suspiciously, but I held my ground by giving him a serious face. He then nodded his head and apologized. We  then discussed only business things as we ate. When we finished lunch I thanked him for his time and left. I went straight home after the lunch with John. When I got home I noticed my answering machine was blinking and pushed play as I plopped onto the couch. The first message was Tyler! He was apologizing and asking me to give him another chance. I was too occupied with John that I had forgotten about Tyler. I pushed myself from off the couch and deleted the message. I was annoyed to see all the messages were from Tyler.”

“WHAT?! How many messages did he leave,” Bom asked.

“Fourty,” Minzy said rolling her eyes.

“FOURTY,” Bom asked in amazement.

Minzy nodded, “Yeah, after the tenth voice mail I figured the rest were all from him and deleted all of them. I laid back down on my couch feeling a big headache coming on and forced myself to take a nap. When I awoke I knew what I had to do.”

“What was that?"

“I wasn’t going to give my heart to either of them! I figured that I would break my engagement off with Tyler and lie to him that I was seeing John. But when I was with John I would pretend that I was still engaged to Tyler by wearing my engagement ring. Surprisingly my plan worked. Tyler was more than understanding and backed off. Tyler asked if we could still be friends and I agreed. John also was the same. When I saw John we only discussed business and nothing more. It lasted a good month,” Minzy said shaking her head.

“What do you mean by that,” Bom asked as she scribbled onto her notebook.

“Well there was this big fancy party being thrown by my company and they invited a lot of people. I had to go and show support for my company so I went wearing a black elegant dress. As much as I didn’t want to be there, I put on a smile and thanked everyone who came to our company party. As I was going around and greeting everyone I heard John call me from behind. I quickly reached into my purse and slipped on the engagement ring before turning to face him. He introduced me to some of his company people when I heard someone else call my name. I turned to see it was Tyler. I quickly put my hands behind my back and slipped the engagement ring off as Tyler walked over to us. I was caught in the middle of a lie and I didn’t know how to get out of it. Tyler greeted everyone in the circle with a firm handshake. When he reached John they both introduced themselves, but stopped in their tracks as they realized who they were greeting. Tyler dropped his hand and starred coldly at John. John also did the same and I didn’t know what to do. I cleared my throat and faked like I heard someone was calling me and tried to excuse myself from the group. But both John and Tyler caught my arms, but stood still starring at each other,” Minzy said.

“Wow mom,” Bom starred in amazement trying to imagine it all.

“I know. The other people in the circle looked to me for an explanation and I shrugged my shoulders acting like I didn’t know what was going on. Tyler spoke first saying so this is the guy. But then John cut in saying I should be saying that! You were the one who cheated on her. Everyone in the circles eyes widened and I escorted the two outside. They both kept ahold of my arms still starring each other down when John said take your hands off of her. They went back and forth until Tyler lost his cool and swung at John. I felt helpless watching as the two were having a full out fist fight. In the end John got the last punch knocking Tyler onto the ground. John then spit at Tyler saying that the next time he laid his cheating hands on me he’d kill him. I was shocked and looked to John for an answer. But he quickly walked up to me and forcefully kissed me with so much passion. His kiss brought back so many memories of us together and I couldn’t help but cry as he kissed me. When he released me from the kiss he looked me in the eyes as if waiting for a reaction. And you know what I did,” Minzy asked Bom.

“What? Did you kiss him again,” Bom teased.

Minzy laughed, “No. I slapped him across the face!”

“You WHAT? Mom,” Bom said shocked.

Minzy nodded her head saying, “I slapped him across the face really hard. He felt his cheek and looked to me saying that he deserved it. I then lightly pushed his hand from where I had slapped him and caressed his cheek. I looked him in the eyes and smiled before kissing him on the lips.”

“REALLY?! How romantic,” Bom said as she sighed.

Minzy giggled, “After our passionate kisses I asked him how he knew that I had lied and he told me that he couldn’t lose his love to just anyone. He said he did some researching and found out what had happened between us. I couldn’t believe he had known all along and I started to cry. He wiped at my tears and said that he was sorry that he kept me waiting for so long. John figured that he would wait until I was ready to tell me that he still loved me.” Minzy smiled saying, “I shook my head not wanting to believe a word he said until his lips met with mines again. After he had kissed me he told me that he’d wait for me. Wait patiently till I saw and knew for myself that he loved me as much, if not more than he did back when we were together. I kept crying not wanting to believe all his sweet talk and he said that he wanted those moments of happiness back. I cried harder and asked him how could we have those moments of happiness when it was all in the past.” Minzy sighed, “Even though he was all banged up from the fight he got down on one knee holding my hand in his and said that in order to get those moments of happiness back he’d have to show me. He smiled up at me saying that I’d have to marry him so he could show me not just moments of happiness, but a life time of happiness! When he said those words I was done for and told him that I would want nothing more than a life time of happiness.”

“Wow mommy what a way to propose,” Bom said.

Minzy wiped at a stray tear saying, “Ever since that day I’ve seen nothing but happiness in my life.”

Bom hugged her mom tightly, “You deserve it after all you’ve been through mom.”

Minzy laughed and rubbed her daughters arm, “Thank you sweetie.”

After a moment of silence Bom said, “I was right you know.”

Minzy smiled as she watched Bom reach for her notebook. Minzy then said, “Let me see.”

Bom flipped the notebook over to show Minzy that she had drawn hearts all over her paper with John’s name in the middle.

Minzy laughed, “Wow Bom you’re good.”

Just then Minzy and Bom heard someone at the front door. Bom looked to her mom, “Daddy’s here!”

Minzy continued to chuckle as she watched her daughter run to the door.“

Hey sweet heart! What are you doing up so early,” Bom’s father asked.

Bom ran into her father’s arms saying, “I knew you were John all along!”

Bom’s father laughed as he picked up his daughter saying, “John? What do you mean by that?”

Bom cut her dad off, “Daddy don’t ever leave mom like that again okay!”

Bom’s father chuckled at his silly little girl, “Sweetie what are you talking about? I would never leave your mother!”

Just then Minzy walked over to her husband and kissed him on the cheek saying, “Hi honey!”

Bom’s father looked to Minzy, “Who’s John?” Minzy grinned as Bom’s dad put her down and waited for an explanation, “And what does our daughter mean to never leave you?”

Minzy smiled as she reached for both of her husband’s hands and looked him in the eyes, “I told her about how I ended up falling for you.”

Bom’s dad looked to Bom and then back at Minzy, “So that’s what she meant.” Bom’s dad then pulled Minzy close to him, “Don’t worry Bom I won’t ever leave your mommy again.” Minzy giggled as he went in for a kiss.

“MOM, DAD stop I’m right here you know,” Bom said.

They both laughed and Bom’s father picked her up again, “And YOU! My name isn’t John it’s Junho!”

Junho then started to cover Bom’s face with kisses making her squeal. Minzy smiled as she watched her life time of happiness play before her
