Taking Aim

Playing Cupid

Kyuhyun carefully balanced the two grocery bags in his arms as he fished out his keys and began to unlock the door.  Before he had the chance to turn the key, the door suddenly opened and Kyuhyun nearly fell on his face.  He gripped the bag sliding down between the wall and him, pushing it back up with his thigh as he peered into the living room.  Sungmin was leaning against the door, holding one end of a dresser and backing out of the door as Jongwoon steadily moved forward with the other end.

“What the hell are you two doing?” he asked, irritated that he was stuck in the hall holding the bags while they blocked the door.

“What the hell does it look like?” Jongwoon shot back.

Kyuhyun decided to hold his tongue at the moment, since they all had their hands full and arguing wasn’t going to get him inside any faster.  He stood along the wall as they slowly backed the furniture out of the apartment and headed down the hall.  Jongwoon let the door slam shut behind him.

            “Hey!”

“It’s not as if I had a free hand to hold it open with,” Jongwoon said, sweat running down his face as he followed Sungmin.

Kyuhyun got ready to unlock the door again when Ryeowook opened it wide.  “Sorry,” he apologized, moving to the side to let Kyuhyun in.

“Why?  It’s not your fault, is it?”

Ryeowook shook his head, peering down the hall at their hyungs for a second before he shut the door and tried to take one of the bags from Kyuhyun.

“I got it,” he said, carrying them into the kitchen and setting them down on the table.  “What the hell are those two doing?”

“They said that they were moving some of Jongwoon’s things out of the apartment and bringing them to his parent’s house,” Ryeowook said, returning to the stove and stirring the food in the skillet.

“And he isn’t going to need his dresser?  Where’s he going to put his clothes?”

Ryeowook shrugged.  “I found that it wasn’t going over well to quiz them too much about it.  Did you get the garlic?”

Kyuhyun dug it out of the bag and handed it to Ryeowook.  “I got some fish sauce too; I noticed we were nearly out of it.  What are you making?”

“Kimchi stew,” he said, returning to the cutting board to chop up some more vegetables.

Kyuhyun looked over Ryeowook’s shoulder.  “Beef or pork?”

“Beef, of course.  You would whine all day if I didn’t make beef.”

Kyuhyun grinned and began putting away the groceries.  “Is that lunch or dinner?”

“Lunch,” he answered.  “We’re going out to dinner with Changmin and Minho, remember?”

            “Oh yeah.”

“Don’t forget to leave the onions out.  You put them in the fridge last time.”

            “Yes, dear.”

Kyuhyun was nearly done emptying the bags when he heard Jongwoon and Sungmin come back in and walked over to the doorway.  “Hey, what are you moving all your stuff out for?”

“We have a lot going on in the coming weeks and I wanted to get it done while I have time,” Jongwoon explained.

“Aren’t you going to need a dresser between now and then?”

“Sungmin said I could use his,” Jongwoon said, heading back into his room.

“Isn’t there enough people in my room already?” he asked no one in particular.

Hyukjae walked out of his room, slowing down and peering into Jongwoon’s open bedroom door, listening to Jongwoon and Sungmin argue over where to move the bed.  He walked into the kitchen, sniffing the air.  “Lover’s quarrel?”

“I have no idea what those two idiots are up to,” Kyuhyun said.

“I have a funny feeling that I know what this is related to but it’s probably best to keep my mouth shut for the time being,” he said, walking over to Ryeowook and looking over his shoulder.  “Whatcha making?”

“Kimchi stew.  I’ll leave some in the fridge for you tonight.  We’ll be out to eat,” Ryeowook explained.

            “So will I.”

“Where are you headed?  Do you have a date?” Ryeowook asked excitedly.

Hyukjae nodded with a big grin.  “It’s an EunHae double date!”

“Somebody’s not getting laid tonight,” Kyuhyun said under his breath as he reached over Ryeowook to put away the bag of sugar.

Ryeowook elbowed him.  “As if he isn’t socially awkward enough.  Don’t discourage him,” Ryeowook whispered.  “Go take the beef off the skillet and put it on a plate for me, would you?”

Kyuhyun just obediently followed orders, being a bit more comfortable in the kitchen then he used to be.  “Now what?  Do you want me to turn it off?”

“No,” he said, grabbing a glass bowl full of minced garlic and ginger.  “Heat that up for a couple minutes.”

Kyuhyun dumped the contents into the pan and began to spread them out with a spatula.  “I highly recommend that you take her somewhere with a dance floor, Hyuk.  Girls like it when you dance well; they figure you’re a god in bed then.  That will keep her far away from Donghae too, you shouldn’t be going on double dates with someone who looks that much better than you do, you know.”

Ryeowook threw a spoon at Kyuhyun and gave him a dirty look.

“I’m just being honest,” he defended himself.

The trio stopped talking as they heard a loud screeching noise coming from down hall.  They all ran into Kyuhyun and Sungmin’s room where the two were trying to pickup Sungmin’s bedframe and angle it out of the room.

“What the hell are you two doing?” shouted Kyuhyun.

“I’m moving my bed,” Sungmin said, trying to turn the frame onto its side.

            “Where?”

            “To Jongwoon’s room.”

            “Why?”

“Because I’m tired of sharing a room with you.  I want my own room,” Sungmin spat back, glaring at Kyuhyun over his shoulder.

“You two break up?” Hyukjae asked him.

“I hate to point this out to you,” Kyuhyun said, folding his arms in front of his chest, “but all you’re doing is moving in with a new roommate.”

“Yes, but he’ll be leaving soon.”

“Why do you two keep acting like he’s leaving tomorrow?  He isn’t going anywhere for months yet!”

When Sungmin dropped his end of the frame on his foot, Hyukjae pushed him aside and took over, easily tilting the bed and backing up out of the door.  “This would be easier if you had unscrewed it first and rebuilt it in Woon’s room,” he pointed out.

“You going to be lonely without me?” Sungmin asked Kyuhyun, hopping on one foot.

“No hyung, do whatever you’d like.  I could use a little privacy for once,” he said, shooing Ryeowook back down the hall to the kitchen and following him in, trying not to start any arguments with his roommates.

Ryeowook went over to the stove and added water to the pan and some sauces, stirring the mixture together before putting a lid over it.

“What do you think that’s about?”

“Sungmin wanting to move into Jongwoon’s room?   Maybe they finally decided to admit their love for one another,” Ryeowook suggested.

“You think they’d look a little more excited about it if that were the case,” Kyuhyun said, peeking out of the doorway when he heard a loud scratching noise and Jongwoon start cursing.

            “What was that?”

“Don’t worry about it,” he sighed.  “I’ll repaint it once they’re finished.”

“What are you going to do with a room all to yourself?” Ryeowook teased.

            “Sleep .”
