Foreword
It was a frigid day in December. I was lacing up my figureskates and was feeling eager to glide on the ice again. In September, I had broken my ankle and I had to wait for it to heal. But it was much better now and there was a lot of work for me to do to prepare for my next competition.
I finished lacing up my skates and stepped onto the ice. It strange at first, being on ice, but I soon adjusted. Slowly, I began to skate around the pond. As I went faster, I could feel the cold air whipping my face. I jumped and spun around twice, landing shakily. After regaining my balance, I tried again. That time the landing was better. But it wasn't perfect.
I skated down the center of the pond as fast as I could and lept into the air.
"Hey!" someone shouted at me.
I looked around rapidly, still in the air, then ended up landing on my back.
