The Fox to the Slaughter

  Chapter ONE

     Thank You

Near death and in pain, I weakly limp out of the river. Water making my fur form heavy clumps while the fur on my head covered my eyes, making me a blind fool.

A wave of weakness runs through me and my legs give out. I lay on the soft grass of the forest, praying to the goddess of the forest to save me from the endless suffering of anguish. I feel as though someone has chewed on my tail hard enough to almost break it, and my ears harshly bitten on and bleeding, my legs beaten to a pulp and giving my head wave after WAVE of hits and bites. And someone did do all that, or to be more upfront: a pack of wolves hunted and betted me. If I never jumped off the cliff into the waterfall, they would have made a snack out of me.

Thank the forest goddess: it's over. And if I prayed hard enough, it will stay like that. Death like sleep faces me; I fight it off just long enough to see a human running to me. Have I not suffered enough! Sleep becomes to strong and I let myself go to it. But just before I sleep, the human kneels in front of me and whispers:

-Just hold on a while longer little guy, I'm here for ya...

Then everything goes black...

XxX

I wake up in the most softest of grasses in the middle of the day...wait just one damned second...this isn't grass! Where am I?! I get up and find I am no longer in pain, odd. I look myself over and find I couldn’t be healthier, aside from my empty tummy.

...Odd once more! My fur grew out, and by the look of it I have been asleep for a month... A MONTH DAMN IT!!!

I growled and snarled with all my might, and I jump off the bed I was in and harshly landed on the floor boards, I start slamming into things and that causes them to fall and break out of pure wrath! I was far from finishing my titanic vile tantrum!

I froze in place when I heard someone running to the room I was held prisoner in. The door opened swiftly, showing that the human from before was the one who brought me here.

I was still as ice. Not moving for crap. I learn that you had to stand still and not move for a long amount of time to be unnoticed by other beings that have yet seen you move, and the human never saw me move. So I guess it works for humans too, seeing as how the human was looking at me but not knowing whether I was a living being or not. My fur stood on end when the human was laughing for some reason, but I still didn't move.

I flinched when the human started to walk to me, kneel down, and pet me. If I move now I'd be damned, so I keep being a wall of ice and held still for the life of me. The human must think I'm a stuffed doll.

-So silly. Your a bad little baby aren’t chu? Yes you are! So cute!

Huh? The human's cooing me now? Good leaf spirits! The human must be on to me! I sweat like the last thing I ate: a wild boar.

The human picked me up. I stay still though I was moved to fit better in the human's arms. The human held me close to its chest. The human was warm...it felt...good. I limped a bit, giving in to the pleasant warm the human was giving off.

I tilted my head when I saw the human was walking somewhere out of the room and into the hallway, going into a living room.

-Such a nice little babe.

I sniff the human and find out the human's a male. He smells like cold wind, I blush as I keep sniffing him to smell his lovely sent. Huh...I'm thinking unorthodox things. Bad me! Bad BAD me!

My three tail sway softly as I see a pompom float about in front of my face. It's like it WANTS to be caught and killed! I paw at it with speed and I get a hit. The male human giggles.

-What a silly foxy you are! Sweet foxy, good foxy. Hmm...What shall be your name?

I ignore his cooing and his very being. I have pray to kill damn it! I try to nip at the horrid pompom and miss.

-Hee hee. How does...Little Pudding Tater sound?

I pause what I was doing and forget the damn pompom, I look up at him with disdain for the name. He seemed to get the message.

-Hehehehe okay okay the name is a no go. How about...

It looked like he was staring into my soul rather than into my mako blue eyes. It creeped me out a bit. The odd human smiles.

-Cloud.

Cloud? Humans these days. Saying whatever pops into their little pea-sized minds.

-You look like a cute wittle fox who should be named "Cloud".

Hrmm okay then. Strange name. But it stays true to the fact I'm a not a human. Ever meet a male human named Cloud? I think not.

I bark to show I approve, making him giggle.

-Good! So Cloud it is.

I whine in a way that sounds like I'm saying 'Cloud', a tail points to me as I say my newly dubbed name. I poke him with my nose and whine.

-Huh? Want to know my name? Heh...I'm talking to a fox as if he was a person...I must be going crazy.

Is he for real? He has been talking to me like I'm a human. Surly he would have notice the small fact from the start.

-Well it's Squall.

Squall...it's nice...

He pets me softly on my head, stopping when my tummy growls loudly. Ugh my body makes the weirdest sounds at the worst moment. He giggles cutely like a little school girl.

-Hungry?

No duh. I tilt my head slightly.

-Lets go get you some food then.

Food! Oh happy day, oh happy day!

Squall gets up from the couch he was sitting on and walks into a small kitchen. Despite it being small, the fringe was opened and hills of food were in it! Good Tree Goddess I must have died and went to heaven! Squall pulls out a fat fish, I think its trout, and places it on a clean marble counter. All done with me in Squall's arm.

After Squall set me down on the polished wood floor and prepared the fish, he was almost done. I shouldn't have been staring at the damn fish, it made the short thirty minutes seem so long. My three tails wag in enlightenment as Squall set his...MY fish in a blue doggie bowl. I ate away at it but yelped when it was too hot and it burned my mouth. A matching blue doggie water bowl was sent next to the food bowl and I lapped at it with eagerness. When my mouth cooled down, I panted. Squall kneeled in front of me again and held my face in both his hands. Rubbing the fur under my right eye with his left thumb.

-Better now Cloud?

His voice full of concern and sweetness. I loved his voice I never wanted it to stop.

I whine in content as he messages the part under both my eyes with his thumbs. My right back leg stomps the floor in abruptly blissful pleasure that becomes a bit too much...

I allayed enough and barked at Squall and wagged my tails and pretense the manifestation of clam and joy.

Squall is such a female. He voice is so girly that it's laughable. His hands small and gentle. His face...good Tree Goddess...

-Sweet foxy, good foxy!

Ugh the horrid coos. Their enough for me to stop forcing myself to clam down. Squall kissed my nose and cooed some more.

-Smart foxy, cute foxy!

Cute? Is it because I'm less than three feet tall when I stand on two legs like a human? I was always jeered because of my size. Squall puts me back down and smiled.

-Finish your food Cloud and I'll be outside.

He walked out the door that lead to his back yard from his kitchen and left it open for me. I ate my food in a rush and hopped off to Squall outside. He was sitting on a bolder eating a peach, his legs folded to his chest and he hugged them with his right arm as he held the peach in his left. I calmly walked to him and jumped next to him on the bolder and sat down. The outside air felt good. It was nether hot nor cold, just right. It was perfect how there was a sunset in motion. As the sun went down, Squall sighed dreamily.

-I love the sunset. It's so beautiful.

I glance at him, and what I saw took my breath away.

The sunlight reflected his gray blue eyes, making them look like a storm. The light hitting his tanned skin just right making his face from pretty to surpassing beautiful. His chocolate brown hair turned lightly dark gold. I sat there staring, a tear forming in my eye knowing that it will never be...unless...

With the sun gone for the day I looked back at the sky, hopping and searching for that one...THERE IT IS!!! I tightly close my eyes and bow my head, and in my thoughts I said:

-I...I wish I can turn into a human and back into a fox freely!!!

With all my might I chanted that over and over again on a shooting star. Squall gasped in awe.

-A shooting start! Umm uh I wish I was handsome!

Handsome? What the hell...?

-But you already are so beautiful Squall.

-...WHAT?!

Squall looked at me with wide eyes full of fear. He fell on his off the bolder in his attempt to get away from me. I won't lie; it kind of stung that Squall was showing fear of me...God knows why he was running to start with.

I reach a paw out to him and I see my paw got bigger, and from my elbow and up my arm...it was BALD!!! Then I saw that’s how it is with my other arm. Elbow down it's a fox arm with gold fur, white fur on my paws. I looked at my legs and it was the same! Knee down it was my back legs that looked like my arms, but it was bald from knee up! I looked at my to see I still had my tail in all it's gold with a white tip glory, but...my and back were bald...and so was my chest and tummy and...in between my legs! Luckily there was a puddle of clean water in front of me next the bolder; I looked into it to see myself. Well I still have my ears covered in gold fur, and I have a mess of spiky sunshine blond that pointed everywhere. Not forgetting I now have blond eyebrows, I still had my mako blue eyes, my fangs were as sharp as ever...and that I was pretty tall. That's awesome that I'm tall as a human, but I can’t help but to feel I'm forgetting something.

I look over to Squall, seeing his mega-blush AND that his dark green kimono, that he was wearing since I saw him, was becoming lose at his chest. Giving me a very nice view of his bare chest and small pinkish nubs-...

Oh! I put my left hand into a fist and lightly bang it on the palm of my right hand.

THAT'S what I'm forgetting: Clothes! Duh. Humans don’t walk around .

I look over at Squall and sheepishly smile.

-Um Squall? Do you have extra clothes I can borrow?

I smile and chuckle at Squall's red-as-a-cherry face.
