The Mail

It was that day that he waited for so long to come. The boy quickly got off his bed (probably rolling on it before) and stomped his on the office chair that was placed near his computer desk.  He logged in and paced his fingers lightly to the mail section. He frowned. Oh how much he hated those words.

No mail.

The boys kept clicking the button ‘refresh’ so many times he has lost count. He let go of the mouse and growled for a few times.  No I’m not going to give up! He’s going to mail me in any second now! He thought as he smiled and went back to his computer. With a soft prayer dangling inside his head, he clicked the button ‘Refresh’ again, this time, much slower with patience.

You have one mail.

“Yes!” He squealed lightly and pumped his right fist onto the air while standing up. He then sufficiently guided the mouse towards the ‘inbox’ button and clicked it while waiting for the page to load. Oh my, how he felt like dying at that moment. 5 seconds of a loading page meant an eternity for that boy.

The screen popped back up, showing maternity of mails that have been read before. The boy scrolled up, searching for that one mail who he have not read it yet.

There it is.

He then clicked the mail sent to him, which was what he expected. A mail from the boy named Kim Jongin.

“Luhan-sshi, how have you been? It’s been a while since I’ve wrote to you. Yes, you and I were a bit busy lately and I admit that it was my fault to begin with. But I have good news to share! So I my mom enrolled me into the students transferee program in my University, and I got accepted, and guess where I would be transferred?! SOUTH KOREA, SEOUL! I was jumping up and down before at my campus, my colleague stared at me like I was some sort of a murderer!  The program starts the end of this month. I still haven’t packed up though. Too much to consider bringing back to Korea! I’m so excited! Umma and Appa saved up our mansion so we could live together with the other friends we left behind! Oh I forgot to tell you, our program was tuned to your university! We’ll be studying in the same campus! How cool is that?! Oh and I heard a famous teokgalbi shop opened near your town? Let’s have a bite, shall we? I’m expecting to see you first Luhan! 

I have to go now, my mom's bugging me, asking me to go to the store and get some milk. To the next time, Luhan-hyung!

The boy read it without a tear of doubt of happiness. His smile crept up on his face almost every time he read the words written by the boy named ‘Kai’ or his original stated name, Kim Jongin. The boy felt tugged of butterflies released inside his stomach, he felt like he wants to reread the whole mail again.

He then scrolled upwards, eyes gazing back and forth on the words written on the screen. His smile soon faded.

“Luhan…” He mumbled alone. The look he gave away was almost frowning. He wasn’t Luhan. No, he wasn’t what the boy named Kim Jongin was waiting for, heck the boy never even touched slightly about him after he moved away. He felt the depression came inside of him. Without knowing anything at all, Kyungsoo fell of his chair, his back unknown to the sense of pain as his mind was somewhere else.

Unconsciously went back. He started to remember their memories together when they were children’s.

Luhan was his cousin. That sweet little old half Chinese and half Korean boy was full of joy since the beginning. Luhan was two years older than him. His parents and Kyungsoo’s stayed near each other in case of needing any help and they both now shared a huge food-ranking company throughout the world. They both owned a mansion each in the same community for the high-ranking people in South Korea located in Seoul. Kyungsoo still remembered, he was just a child of 6 year old, as he was playing with Luhan at his backyard, he heard the sound of trucks reversing tyres loading next door. The boys quickly ran to the gate requesting for the security guard to open up the gate for them. And that’s where Kai came in. At first, the boy was the so called meanie when Luhan tried to came close to him as he was distant as first, but soon after a while, they became best-friends. They were the three musketeers, nothing could tear them apart, well except the fact of their parents yelled at them to come home, other than that, they were like peas in a pod. Unlike other’s the trio's parents also made a special bond like the stories of the ‘desperate housewife’ shows.

Kyungsoo learned that he was the same year as Kai, but Kyungsoo was much older for a few days. He also learned that Kai was very sweet and gentle unlike his bubbly-too-loud cousin who likes to make jokes out of everything. Then he realised at age 9, he developed a small gentle feelings for the boy named Kai. What was it called? Some sort of puppy-love? Kyungsoo’s parents couldn’t resist to stop him, it was his hearts own choice. Kyungsoo also realised, Kai became much closer to Luhan than him, at then he didn’t know the word of ‘jealousy’, he was a kid.

Kyungsoo was full of doubt of what he felt towards Kai, but when he was just about to ask, Kai spoke up and said he was moving away to London upon his father’s new company opening up there, and the company is in need of a CEO. Kai’s father couldn’t decline. Kai left when he was 10, not able to say goodbye as he was in summer camp with Luhan at that time.

Kyungsoo then went into a scalp of depression. He slowly forgets to eat his foods, his parents went through a lot to make their little baby boy continue on his life, so they made an intervention for the boy. Kyungsoo accepted and agreed not to continue his life like that. After a few weeks, Kyungsoo went back to his daily activities. He played with Luhan, stayed in his house for a small slumber party, and he acted like nothing bad had ever happened.

Suddenly Luhan came and said to Kyungsoo, Kai have contacted him through his mail. Kyungsoo was shocked. Kyungsoo didn’t knew that Luhan knows how he felt about Kai, the bubbly boy turns off his mail identity and gave it to Kyungsoo, hoping the boy would contact Kai and continue on his friendship. Kyungsoo did. But he never revealed his true identity. He would just call him Luhan.

For Kyungsoo, having Kai replying his mail was enough. So it continued on until Kyungsoo and Kai was 21 and Luhan was 23.

“Oppa!” A small child’s squeak made Kyungsoo blink for a few times before catching his breath. He forgot how he held his breath after the small flashback he had just now. The child who squeaked just now went to Kyungsoo and back hugged him (It was easy as Kyungsoo was sitting on the floor, remember?).

“Oppa, wae-yo?” The child asks, laying her head on the side of Kyungsoo’s shoulder. The latter looked to the side and saw his cute baby sister staring at him. “What do you mean, MinAh?” He asked back, slightly confused by the younger’s question. The child quickly bounced off Kyungsoo’s back and literally jumped on top of Kyungsoo’s lap, she wasn’t that heavy to break any of Kyungsoo’s bone, He thank god for that.

“What are you doing, MinAh?” Kyungsoo then ask. The girl looked up and eyed the boy’s eyes with pouty lips.

“I don’t know, Oppa. I just want to try how it feels sitting on the ground,” She answered with a wide grin. Her eyes turned crescent moon and her cheeks rised. Kyungsoo couldn’t help but to pinch her cheeks. The child tried to slap away Kyungsoo’s hand but failed as her energy used was quite small indeed for her size.

“Oppa,” She called out cutely. Kyungsoo leaned in much closer to her face. “What is it?”

MinAh blinked for a while before blinking cutely at Kyungsoo. She was doing her best on aegyo right now. Kyungsoo rolled his eyes. “Oppa, can we go and play at Luhan-Oppa’s play ground?” She asked curiously. Kyungsoo shut his mouth.

“Why don’t you play your Barbie dolls instead?” He asked while pouching his mouth. MinAh shook her head.

“Barbie dolls are boring, Oppa. I have no playmate!” She whined as her hands were flailed to the side, protesting of her older brother has to say. Kyungsoo couldn’t help but to smile. “What about your puzzles? You love puzzles, right?”

MinAh shook her head.

“I’ve finished all the puzzles Oppa and Appa and Umma gave me,” she said. The child stood up and turned around to face Kyungsoo, she crossed her arms over her chest, and she pouts. Kyungsoo giggled at how cute her grammar was at that moment, before he realise the girl was giving him the ‘look’.

Kyungsoo took both of her hands and wiggled the slightly, making the child’s body to shake. Kyungsoo then patted her head, “Arasseo. We’ll go to Luhan-Oppa’s play ground, nae?” MinAh shook her head vividly and jumped up and down. Kyungsoo had to s
