Succubus
Unlocked Doors
“Have you heard of something called a succubus?” asked Krystal.
“I… think so…” said Sulli remembering every video game, every TV show, every book or every manga where she had read or heard the word. There weren’t much.
“What do you know?”
“It’s like a demon…” said Sulli tentatively. Krystal nodded in approval. Sulli’s skin crawled. “They sleep with men… drain them… their soul or something...”
She chuckled. “Not just men.” She didn’t say anything about the draining part. “Some things are true, some things are exaggerated. We… usually connect with someone. We don’t have a soul. That’s kind off true… We pick someone. We share a soul then-”
“Are you dead?”
“No, I’m immortal.”
“Then what are you?”
“I lost part of my soul… I didn’t want to. It was an accident. I was lured out. Just like I did to you,” she rubbed her forehead. “I… she was like me. She drained my soul. If a succubus doesn’t drain you completely you become like them… She left me. I had been wandering alone for so long.”
Sulli felt her eyes water, she knew Krystal had suffered a lot even if she didn't say it. It was drawn on her beautiful face. “Then you are not dead? But you are not alive either?”
“If you put it that way… I'm not quite sure.”
“You are doing that to me?” asked Sulli with a pocker face that made Krystal's stomach flip.
“No,” said Krystal. “I am connecting with you. With time we would become one. We would be immortal Sulli,” this time she was trying to tempt her. “We would live together forever. We wouldn’t have to drain anyone. We will be whole together. Our souls would be one.” She reached for Sulli’s hands. "You wouldn’t have to worry about school or parents. We would be free, Sulli!” Her voice was breaking as if she needed to cry, cry because Sulli was deep in thought. She was away. “I can’t live without you now, Sulli…”
“Neither can I, right?” asked Sulli. Krystal knew she meant it literally. Her heart was beating. It hurt.
“No,” she answered as literally as she asked. “Sulli… I don’t want to hurt you… I lo-“
Sulli cut her words. “I need to think.”
Krystal let go of her hands. Her eyes were watering, her heart was painful. “Okay,” said Krystal. She stood quickly from her bed and just as quickly left the room. Sulli’s words, not meant to hurt, felt like razor sharp knives cutting through her but she wouldn't disrespect Sulli's desicions.
Her heart sank when Sulli closed the door and the deadbolt went back to place.
