There was something strange
Unlocked Doors
Sulli waved at her, as a gesture that said: ‘silly you’.
“Yes you are!” screamed Luna which gained the attention of the passersby. “Who is it?”
Luna noticed the sudden change in her face: fear, nervousness, uneasiness?
“No one, Luna,” said Sulli not giving any more steps forward. “You are imagining things.”
“I’m not!”
“You are…”
“Sulli!”
“What?”
“Who is it?”
“No one!” her voice sounded harsher than Luna had ever imagined. She even lost balance and fell of the banister. Luna caught her and helped her steady herself. It wasn’t a mean remark but it sounded tired, pressured, hysterical and nothing like Sulli.
Sulli noticed her mistake on Luna’s hurt expression. She looked down at her shoes and shifted her weight. “I’m sorry. I just…” Sulli rubbed her forehead. “…been having a horrible headache this morning.”
Luna looked at her and pouted. Sulli laughed heartedly as she always did. Sulli stretched her hand to hold Luna in a headlock. The girl complained and giggled as Sulli messed her hair.
“Come on, Luna, we will be late!” screamed Sulli once she darted away.
“Hey! You! Comeback!” screamed Luna running behind Sulli.
But Sulli still felt strange that day. If she wasn’t lost in a dreamy haste, she would feel a headache as she tried to grasp onto reality. There was something strange. But Sulli was too happy to even care.
Luna knew there was something strange with Sulli. She was not with her. She was somewhere else. And it wasn’t just the dumbfounded lovey-dovey look but something more.
Luna watched her walk to the dorm after school. There was a black butterfly flying behind her. It rested on her shoulder but she did nothing to scare it away.
